The thing is a side branch family are usually distant relatives with weaker blood ties to the main Patriarch, this side branch is way too close to the tree, and that’s why it doesn’t work, they act like it’s surprising that Neji is so talented because he’s part of the side branch meanwhile Neji’s father is literally the twin brother of the head of the clan.

Usually, but the Hyuuga did it a bit different. The leader was main branch, the heir/eldest child was main branch, but everyone else seemed to be side branch. We never really got an answer to what happened to the main branch if both the heir and the leader were killed. But it seems that anyone side branch could only have children that would be side branch, and only a specific number of children were allowed as main branch at any given time. I wonder if Hanabi was spared from the side branch only because the family saw Hinata as useless, but then you have to wonder why Hinata wasn't also moved to the side branch at some point.

One addition to how Ao could have got the Byakugan: Since the Seal is only applied on the 3rd birthday of the MAIN BRANCH child, that means, any Hyuga born inbetween won't have a seal applied for a potentially long time.
Like, main branch child A turns 3, one day later, side branch child B gets born (has no seal), 20 years later, A gets an own child, then only 3 years later, the seals are applied. That means, B lived 23 years without having the seal, and the Byakugan would be ready first-come-first-serve.
Is that stupid? yes. Does that literally make the whole point of the seal useless? Also yes. But that's how it is.

Considering how prideful and stupid the Hyugas seem to act at times, I can easily see that. They don’t want to change which is why we don’t actually see change in the clan for the most part.
It is very likely that the third birthday of the main branch family member is only they get added to the dominance portion of the seal and side branch family members are still getting sealed either at a certain age or before their permit to leave the compound or when they reach a certain proficiency with bian or some other arbitrary measurement and the only thing with the third birthday is that they get added to be able to dominate the side branch

Your tangent about Kakashi's chakra pool and the deterrent of the Sharingan chakra drain seems a little flawed to me. Mostly right, but if I'm not mistaken a person's chakra pool can be increased through training. So I think it's a good possibility that the reason Kakashi has so much chakra after is because he was using the chakra equivalent of Lee's training weights for much of his life.
Only to a certain extent. Your chakra does increase as your prowess does but there's diminishing returns over time til you max out
The way I’ve heard it understood by the most people, is everyone is born with a different sized chakra pool, with some being larger and some being smaller. Each person also has a theoretical max chakra pool based on their potential and initial pool size. There are 3 ways of getting better at chakra usage; training physically to increase your pool, training mentally/gaining more battle experience to increase your pool, and training to have better chakra control which increases the efficiency at which one uses chakra for different jutsus. Certain conditions can limit your overall chakra pool, as they drain your chakra, such as suppressing a tailed beast, chakra sickness, non-Uchiha sharingan wielding, and using Samehada.

It’s a lot harder to increase you chakra pool through training, that’s why ninja clan ninjas have more chakra than civilian family ninjas, they already have larger chakra pools and most ninja clans don’t choose partners to start families out of love but potential power their child could have during the warring states period of their history, that has changed to a degree after the village system stated but the difference is that of a pure bred warrior to a trained warrior with no warrior heritage, one is going to have a deceit advantage.

Oh damn I never even thought about the chakra drain aspect of Danzo keeping his arm covered. Never had a reason to think about it beyond him needing to keep his extremely sus sharingan arm covered because people would have a question or two.

Considering how easy it is to accidentally kill branch family members is. my guess the original point of the curse mark wasn't as a form of control, but as insurance incase a branch family member was ever captured alive.
Here’s an idea, hydrification is probably yang release. You’ve always explained it as the user’s body being almost entirely comprised of water, but if that’s the case how can they have functional bones or muscles? How can they survive with blood so thin it doesn’t tint the water red? Also, how do the user’s clothes or the contents of their digestive tract also hydrify with them? It’s clear that a hydrification user can physically and completely become water, and more importantly, turn back into flesh. Maybe only the hozuki clan can do this because they’re made of a larger percent of water than the average person, but they still clearly physically turn entirely to into water and back. Suigetsu even takes this farther and emulates the akimichi expansion jutsu, turning water into more muscle. If you think about it, it’s really the same as the expansion jutsu, just with water being the medium rather than chakra and calories. The water, an inanimate substance, has to have life breathed back into it to turn back into a functional body. There’s also the way that hydrification users can merge into bodies of water and control it, and while that control could be explained as water release, the fact that the water effectively becomes an extension of the user’s being makes it just as easy to call it yang release, the way I see it. It’s at least as easy to call yang release as the snake sage mode ability that you often argue is yang release. So, aside from yin yang users, the strongest yang user might just be a hozuki.

The person who created the mark probably realized the lower it gave him over other members of the clan and then refused to use it on themselves hence creating the distinction.
Human nature loves to make in and out groups and over time it created the branch system.
But it likely started as just the person who made the mark refusing to put it on themselves or a few other people.
For some reason I keep thinking that there are markings on the inside of his eyepatch that helped him suppress the power.

It's not weird cuz Kakashi does the same. He "activates" Kamui. It doesn't just run all the time - he can't turn the eye back normal, but he CAN activate the eye abilities

4:30 minutes in, I can tell the general idea, I think. Without the branch family and their shit of valve seals being there to fight battles/ wars, the Hyuga eyes would've become a commodity to other villages, being passed down, traded, or stolen as a "power item". Worst case scenario, Hyuga being enslaved and farmed for eyes.
The hyuga caste system doesnt make sense with what happened during naruto: the last, the boruto movie, and with ao. More than likely reality has been changed more than once, the otsutsukis probably lived on earth longer than kaguya stated. There's probably a hyuga graveyard somewhere that konoha has no clue about. Also, there has yet to be an explaination where amado was able to obtain the genetic materials for his experiments. Some other things to mention. One thing that doesn't make sense is how the otsutsuki die. They crumble to pieces when killed. So there is literally 0 ways to obtain any genetic materials unless it came from a body that wasnt fully otsutsukified. When boruto dies(if the otsutsuki process is not reversed) there will be no body to bury. There is probably something happening within the dna of the hyuga that gives them the byakugan to use. But its their human side of that dna. It also doesnt make sense in naruto the last how the eyes of the otsutsuki dont crumble after being removed. The only way sealing hyuga byakugan eyes could make sense is to prevent the otsutsuki from using them and the reason for preventing others just evolved from there. When naruto got sick and Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi went on the quest to fix him, there was probably a wealth of otsutsuki knowledge there possibly explaining many details about the hyuga clan.
That explains why himawari can activate and deactivate hers and go back to having her blue eyes

Its an interesting theory. Allow me to expand on it, when the curse seal was invented initially I wouldn't be surprised if it was placed on every member of the clan. It could be that the marks earliest incarnation didn't have the ability to cause pain , and potential brain damaget o whoever had it. It could very well be originally. It only sealed the byakugan upon death, but at some later point the could have been a schism in the clan. An internal conflict that lead to the establishment of a ruling class among the Hyuga ( the head family), and a subservient class ( the branch family). To ensure the loyalty of the branch family the seal was modified to cause pain on command, at which point the head family stopped placing it on the!selves to prevent it from being used on them. Mind you this is all head cannon, nut its the only way I can make sense of why only some Hyuga clam members have the seal on their heads if it was intended to keep the byakugan and its secrets secure.
They say, a sharingan works best in a pair. Could it be, that Kakashis eye consumes less chakra when close so Obito --> strechy explanation attempt for Kakashis chakragrowth in the 4th War
I think it incorporates more into Konoha clan classing than anything, so I say blame the hokage or the village at the very least 😆 Oh and considering the story about Neji's father dying to protect a Hyuga child from being taken and the seal being applied on the third year, me thinks we has an answer. Someone probably got to a Hyuga before the seal was applied in the past 🤗
What if the side family is the part of the family that can evolve into a sharinngan and that’s why they made them a side family because they felt they were unpure.
One clarification, you mentioned that the Uchiha just went on with their day knowing others couldn't use the Sharingan. But wasn't there an entire discussion over if Kakashi's eye should be taken, or if he should even be killed, in order to keep a non Uchiha from having the eye? I think they did care a little bit, and would take the eye back if someone else ended up with it. Notably, the Hyuuga had a similar policy and absolutely would have hunted down Ao had they known he had a Byakugan for all those years.
Also, I think it's a lot more likely that Ao got his Byakugan during the second war, not the third war. The second was longer and far more chaotic for Konoha making it easier to get away with getting an eye. On top of that as there are only a few main branch members, with second children and such all being moved to the side branch so that only a few first borns are main branch, and with Hiashi's clan status known for the third war, it is far more likely Ao's eye had to come from a main branch member older than Hiashi, which would mean either the former leader or heir.
Awesome video but I am curious in a world where there are so many jutsus and seals why couldn’t someone just make a seal and place it on a Sharingan or any other kind of Doujutsu so they wouldn’t have to lose any chakra from the constant activation and then they can remove the seal to use the eye in battle

Byakugan Came directly from Kaguya. She had it before eating chakra fruit. Sharingan/Rinnegan are due to her eating chakra fruit. Infact Rinnegan can never be deactivated even by her and she kept her third eye closed. As such any being with Chakra should be able to use byakugan effectively while Sharingan which was awakend by Indra may be due to 10 tails yin chakra amd zetsu. As such any eyes related to sharingan will not be accepted by most charka weilders.

What if the eye is disconnected and he uses Chakra to connect and activate it for a short amount of time
I mean another big point in how Ao is actually able to turn off his byakugan is that the byakugan - unlike the sharingan - actually requires hand seals - or at least one hand seal depending on proficiency - to actually activate. Pretty simple when you think about it like that.
On a separate note, why isn't Hanabi a branch family member like Hizashi was?
Hizashi was probably put in the branch family because of the possible succession crisis that identical twins could cause.

There is speculation on how Boruto thrusts his sword to teleport away from mitsuki's snakes, I think I might know the answer. So in the last episode of pre time skip boruto, Momoshiki forms a rasengan but turns it into a bullet and effortlessly shoots it without moving his finger or moving his hand or anything. I believe boruto may have done what momoshiki did and shoots his sword, meaning if he does use this technique momoshiki used, he would have access to rasenDan
Sitting here listening to this video makes me kinda wonder about how the sharingan would have worked for Orochimaru if he succeeded in taking Sasuke’s body. And even now that hes got the white Zetsu body. Would he need to keep it active all the time or?
So if that’s the case, fuck the side branch, just give everybody that seal so that when they die, the entire sale covers their eyes and face, don’t use it as a torture method or as a disciplinary technique and don’t use it to downplay family members because Neji was a member of the side branch and stronger and more of a ninja than 90% of the main branch as well as More than half of the ninjas in konoha

Uchiha clan members can enable/disable usage of the sharingan, non-Uchiha cannot. I want to know how far outside the pure lineage one would have to be in order to not have access to this toggle ability.
Sarada, as a half-Uchiha, has her own sharingan. If you swapped her and Kakshi for the Kannabi Bridge Mission, before she awakened her sharingan, then she wouldn't suffer any of Kakashi's problems from the transplant; she could just turn off Obito's sharingan when not in use & keep her depth perception no problem.
But Sarada is still half-Uchiha, Kakashi isn't Uchiha at all. How far removed from the clan could somebody be and still have the ability to turn their sharingan back into a normal eye when not in use?
My best guess is that you'd need enough Uchiha DNA to have your own sharingan. I think somebody with so little Uchiha DNA that they can't activate their own/don't have one would be unable to deactivate a transplanted one.

Okay I’m listening to you say that the Hyuga clan would lose relevancy if they lost their byakugan… and it raises a question for me. Can a non-blooded kekei genkai user pass the kekei genkai genetics to their offspring? Could Ao have passed on hyuga traits to his kid and could his kid potentially activate their own byakugan?
No, because they don’t have the genetics. e.g. Kakashi wouldn’t able to pass down sharingan to his offspring because he, himself did not get it through his genetics. As Itachi stated, the sharingan needs the uchiha body to work properly.

Assuming the main branch is more loyal to the clan than the side branch, the curse mark was probably a deterrent from hyuga members themselves "trading" the eyes in any way imaginable. We've already seen the hypothetical child of a half hyuga half not, so it's likely some of them try to escape for reasons - love, $, plain not caring...

No they did away with the branch house system after the war. So Hanabi never got the curse mark. Also because Hanabi was a prodigy from birth she was considered for head of the clan position before Hinata.
My whole thing with the Hyuga clan system was always that the entire premise, protecting the byakugan, is actually not accomplished because everyone doesn't have a seal. It's literally counter productive. The only byakugan that are protected are the ones that belong to the branch family who you treat as second class citizens, meaning your own lives are in greater danger??? Wouldn't you want to protect your own and be willing to sacrifice theirs because they're the branch family and expendable???
