Mono - Slimcea Girl (Official HD Music Video)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- Named after the star of the cult 1960s bread commercial, Slimcea Girl channels the spirit of that era’s best pop recalling Burt Bacharach, Phil Spector and Dusty Springfield and was the third single released from Mono’s debut album Formica Blues. The track was remixed by Ashley Beedle (X Press 2), Fuzz Townsend (Pop Will Eat Itself) and the Aloof.
Formica Blues’ 25th anniversary this August is celebrated with a deluxe edition of the album featuring rare remixes from Matthew Herbert, Mr Scruff, Les Rhythmes Digitales (AKA Stuart Price) and the Aloof.

Lyrics
As she walked down the street
The rain began to fall
He called out
But she passed on by
Like she never noticed him at all
Then the words of the song
Remind her of those days
Sees herself in the face of a stranger
Sat in a Station Road Cafe
She remembers the day
When things were going her way
Only memories remain of
The way she used to be
Way she used to be
She stays home every night
And exaggerates her past
Now he knows
That slimcea girl
And she lives alone in Prozac Park
All the old photographs
Were never thrown away
She looks through them
For what made her cry
And then she decides live for today
She remembers the day
When things were going her way
Only memories remain of
The way she used to be
Way she used to be
Why don't you come to me ?
I'll come with you
The way she used to be
Way she used to be
She'll never go back again
The way she used to be
Way she used to be
She'll never go back again

When this album came out in mid 90s, it took the music listeners by total surprise... i still have the original cd and play it often. Anyone else still adores this track only after 2.5 decades later? Raise your hands! I loveeeeeeeeeed her smooth sensual voice. I wonder why she stopped making new music...
Bought it in college in 97
@@sz5876 I did too and still have the cd and still adore the whole album! A lost artist and a lot of ppl dont even know MONO!
Found my copy in a Sound Warehouse used bin, I bought I unknown solely based on the cover art striking me not unlike The Supreme Beings of Leisure’s. Still have the CD and the single, to this day.
Sadly when u search for "Mono" now only a Japanese band's name pop up...and I just found out this album's 25th anniversary edition LP/Vinyl was just recently released. It's alright let the others fancy Justin or Beyonce as I can't stand either of them....I'd rather enjoy some Mono, AIR, Massive Attack and of course some classical rock mix with some Flamenco and Banging Heavy Metal!
U guys can check out the chnl "Echoes" and u'll see some unique posts from there.
I also bought this CD, It's a real jewel🎉
I love this song and the album. How come they never released anything after? I think they contributed a song to the Psycho soundtrack and that's about it.
I think they also used the track "life in mono " in the film Great expectations.
@@michaelcrann6241they did :)
@furbl4345 wish they made more
Still one of my favorite albums of all time. I SO wish they had made more...
yes, i really wish too!
yes.. agreed, ingenue
Violet Indiana has 4 albums. It's not the same kind of music... It's different, not better, not worse but it's Siobhan De Mare (Mono vocals) and Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins guitars and beats)
Her last album was under the name Swoone , very similar sound to this album, really good.
The 90s were a time of total experimentation with new sounds...
This is just one of the most beautiful examples.
Viva Mono!!!
Yes and no. The 90s was experimenting with old and new sounds. The mid 90s is when people we discovering lounge and artists like Burt Bacharach, the type of easy listening stuff our parents grooved to. You combined that with scratching and sampling and you get Mono and Beck and many more.
@@LuckyBastardProd FKN YEEEEEAAAAAH!!! Air, Smoke City, Groove Armada, Endorphin, and the "Café Del Mar" series - all brought that sound.
God, it was a gorgeous time to be young!
Damn, am I so stupid or what? I finally watch this video in 2022, I never thought Slimcea Girl had a music video!, no UA-cam back in 97 or 98, I only heard this beautiful song on the radio, no CD, no Cassete, even on MTV, I miss you MONO! You guys are amazing, Life In Mono will be last forever until the end of this universe.
Mono only made one masterpiece. Its so sad... Well we have this out of this world album to treasure forever!
Great song I love it, "Formica Blues" (1997) is an interesting album. If you like Morcheeba, Sneaker Pimps, Hooverphonic, The Cardigans you'll love that album.
Best track!! Great memories!!
Fave song of this record.
I used to go listen tho whole album on repeat at a record store very often back in 1997.
It was a very expensive album in Mexico at that time. those high-school times...
Love Mono. Music Brings vibes that hit on different levels
I love your music

This woman can break the heart of those who unknowingly listen to her music. Wow
Put that haunting voice with the words - "when things were going her way - the way she used to be." and you know the way things used to be.
So great to finally see this video after 25 years. One of my fav Mono songs. I have been listening to this for years. Siobhan looks great, and I'm so glad she hooked up with Robin Guthrie to do several albums with Violent Indiana. Great stuff all the way around.
This entire album makes me feel like I’m 16 again, I’ll never forget the way I felt the first time this masterpiece flowed through my ears…It’s a timeless masterpiece that transcends time & space 🩷
Love Mono! This album blew my mind when it came out

Lol I heard this song in a Korean Bean Pole commercial .... Wow I'm old af
Trip hop 🤔?
I don't think they should be categorized as Trip Hop even though some of their remixes were trip hoppy. I really don't know how to categorize them, maybe 50's electronica?
Dream pop
Listen Violet Indiana
