Am I the only one who thinks Gina Beck definitely pulled the emotion in the kiss the first one looks like she is doing it because she has to but the second one looks gentle like she is doing it out of love
I love his body language when he gets up as she comes back. He's ready to fight the mob that's coming and all that anger fades to surprise when he sees Christine standing there. JOJ is just such a phantastic phantom!
Ok as much as I freaking adore Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess I think this is by far my favorite final lair ever I just the singing and Gina's acting and the last line and just gaaaah this is so perfect
Shes got another final lair where I almost feel that note shouldn't have been capable of that level of strength. She lunges forward and tears it off, plus the level of intensity as here, but it's faster and she like falls into her hands. It's just crazy.
I’m coming back to watch this after a while and all I can say is wow. Gina Beck is hands down one of the best people to play Christine I think ever. She’s simply splendid in this role. In my opinion, it’s hard to find someone who has both a strong vocal and acting performance to properly portray this final scene. Gina does an amazing job at this. You can really see how conflicted she is between Raoul and the Phantom. While yes, I believe Christine genuinely cares for the Phantom, she is also terrified of him. For example, when she shields Raoul and he grabs her, she’s truly afraid of him. Let’s not forget how the Phantom is borderline emotionally abusive. The position he puts Christine in is horrible, does she spend her life with him or send Raoul to his grave? The Phantom doesn’t know how to express his love for her in a healthy way, and I believe Christine sees this. She has a kind heart, she wants him to know that she loves him in her own way, but she ultimately makes the choice to go with Raoul. I think she sees the Phantoms abusive patterns and she realises that no matter the life he’s lived, his behaviour isn’t justified; no matter what she feels for him. She can’t subject herself to it, though she has feelings for the Phantom, she has to protect herself. You see her pain in the end, but she ultimately makes the best decision. Sometimes love hurts, but she has to guard her heart first.
I really like this explanation. I hate when people are like "Raoul never appreciated her the way the Phantom did!!!" Uh yeah, because Raoul saw her as an actual human being whereas the Phantom simultaneously saw her as something to be possessed, and put her on a pedestal, making her out to be this perfect and unattainable being. I of course see the Phantom's appeal and I feel for him as well, but it's not healthy to be as obsessed with anyone as he is with Christine, and she knows that, because even while part of her loves him back, the way he expresses his affections rightfully terrifies her. I wish people didn't romanticize that kind of obsession.
Forever crying over this. I love John Owen-Jones so much and I never got the chance to see him. He should have been the phantom in the rah concert. I can't believe they did that to him after all the years he dedicated to this show. Biggest injustice in the history of musical theater.
Ahhh I love how absolutely unhinged he became once Raoul showed up! Great acting right here. I usually judge a Phantom based on how he performs this sequence (since it’s both vocally demanding, and he goes through several different emotions through the scene, which demands a certain level of acting range), and I must say, this guy does it very well. The original Michael Crawford is still my personal fave, but I think JOJ is now in my second-place. The emotion in Christine’s facial expressions are great, too!
Gina Beck you rock. She and Sierra Boggess are my favorites.... because they're the only Christines I've ever seen whose acting gave me chills. I feel like most Christines don't realize that Christine loves the Phantom back
Whether Christine actually loved the Phantom or not is just a matter of opinion, left open in the musical version for the actors and fans to decide for themselves.
My opinion on Raoul differs depending on who plays him and how they choose to portray his character. Sometimes I've seen him as caring and chivalrous, but other times I've found him slightly cold and controlling. It's all in how the actor twists it. Same goes for the Phantom I think, which is why it's such a hard role. You have to not only be able to perform but find the right balance. The Phantom is mad, yes, and causes Christine all manners of distress, but played in the right way, well......
This is one of the most emotional scenes in the whole show and oh my gosh they pulled it off like it was a walk in the park. Raoul was singing with so much fear of losing his love, Christine was so expressive and it shows in all her individual parts, and you can hear the pain and sorrow behind every line of the Phantom just amazing
Thank you! Seriously, all this fawning and phangirling, WHAT ABOUT CHRISTINE? Hardly anyone looks at it from her perspective or considers how she felt about the Phantom or Raoul. I feel for the Phantom, but he was scary and Christine was terrified of her. She was far from cruel to him.
Dont come to a phantom video and say that Ramin Karimloo is superior and no one lives up to expectations. If you dont like it just leave. Seriously no need to bash other phantoms.
@@Sarah-zr1njI’ve seen about seven or eight and JOJ just seemed a cut above. That’s not bashing; no more than someone believing Tom Brady was better than Joe Montana.
Gina Beck is the perfect Christine in my eyes. She's the Christine that puts the girl, the story and the acting before the voice. Most Christines I see make their voice the main attraction, rely almost solely on how they sound. Gina manages to sound phenomenal, but it's her performance, her tone, her expressions, her choices in her body language and in her eyes that make me feel Christine. I wish more actresses got it -- despite the Phantom's obsession, Christine Daae is more than her voice.
That was am AMAZING kiss! it was clumsey at first and he was so confused and didnt know what to do then the second time he just leand into it and let it happend.. Frikin amazing! instent tears!
In the beginning, I watched this for John's voice and Gina's performance. But after watching this video over twenty times at least, I have to say, this Raoul also sang very well. Especially the "Why make her lie to you to save me?" This Final Lair maybe the best one in UA-cam. Their cooperation is amazing.
Tiffany Stewart Firstly, I suggest you learn some manners. Telling someone to 'shut up' is extremely rude. Secondly, learn to spell, YOU'RE not YOUR. Finally, when you have an informed and intelligent opinion I will be happy to listen to it. Everyone is entitled to a view. It appears you are a fan of the film - good for you. But don't go trolling other people. It's plain bullying - and very unattractive.
+Dianaemanuel I think that the whole was botched really, its shame as it looks like it cost a fortune to make.Pity that they chose two colourless leads for the roles of Christine and the Phantom.Gerard Butler may have some sex appeal but he just couldn't sing the songs without some electronic enhancement.Emmy Rossum was as wooden as Sarah Brightman.
Wow, I think I have now found my favourite Christine. Admittedly I have not watched these two in the other scenes, but I really like the love Gina Beck portrayed here to the Phantom. It looks healthy and believable. She is also truly beautiful, and her performance so touching.
The first show I ever saw was Wicked and Gina Beck played Glinda. It changed my life, and she will always hold a special place in my heart for making me fall in love with theatre. I love her Christine. It is full of emotion and she is so talented. Thank you for uploading this!
Wow, I love how she takes the ring back for a few seconds, almost giving it extra consideration before running away. I've never seen another Christine do that before once she extended her arm to hand him the ring. This was really interesting. It makes more sense seeing that LND picks up after this.
This video just makes me melt. The pure talent of this performance is second to none. I love how Gina is showing sheer desperation and anguish, almost as though her body is giving up. Is is a true talent
I was lucky enough to see him on his final night in 2016. He was the first Phantom is saw back in 2012 and it was always my goal to see him again in London. What a night it was.
I got tickets to see POTO in April. I doubt it will be JOJ, but I'm optimistic about the play, regardless. I would've accepted Sierra Boggess, Hadley Fraser and Ramin Karimloo as the main trio like the 25th anniversary, since they did an amazing job, but whoever Andrew picked for this run, I will be just as good with it.
Seriously? He is magnificent. The detail in his interpretation is astounding and the control of his voice is impeccable. I'm about to graduate with a degree in musical theater and this video is a lesson in acting that most of my classes have failed to provide. It is a damn shame that he wasn't cast in the 25th anniversary. I do hope he reads all the comments on his videos that scream admiration and love... Bravo, Jones. Bravo.
5:24 Beck's acting in this moment is stunning! Christine starts to act, but gradually realize she believes in what she's saying... I love that hat sad/cruel smile when she says "What kind of life have you known?" ... more than hate or real pity there's just a sad awareness ... it's like she says "what horror could turn someone in the sh * t man that you are?"
WOW!! I’ve never seen this for real, but I did watch the 25th anniversary edition and LOVED it! But this right here made me CRY and FEEL everything! Both JOJ and Gina are magnificent! And their voices are both breathtakingly beautiful.
OMG this is scene is played so well! These actors create so many more layers in the scene, the Phantom really has a spiteful banter back and forth with Raoul, and the whole blackmailing Christine into marriage really comes off as a passionate, desperate spur of the moment decision & I love how Christine breaks down and he looks so torn that he may just change his mind & scoop her up in his arms, but decides against it... And her revelation "Pitiful creature" is phenomenal, goes from I can change
He comes back !!!!! Yes !!!! John Owen-Jones returns as The Phantom from Monday 7 September 2015 until Saturday 30 January 2016 !!! After it will be Ben Forster !!!
JOJ is amazing! Kevin Gray(broadway and deceased) is also amazing! He will make you cry when Christine leaves at the end of the final lair. It's on youtube
I adore how she sang "It's in your soul" through gritted teeth. And basically everything else. Bravo Gina, bravo. Really wish that it was you they picked to be in the 25th anniversary.
It looks like after 4:44 where Christine sings "You deceived me. I gave my mind blindly." that the Phantom is already beginning to regret his treatment of her, and that perhaps what he's doing isn't really the best course of action.
You are the angel of music. I watch this over and over. I know it’s been ages since this performance but it still is my favorite to watch during these sad times. I wish you the best JOJ💕
I wish she and John had played the phantom and christine together more times not just once and they should have been the cast of the 25th anniversary. If wasn't for that mercenary cameron mackintosh who stabbed John in the back after all his dedication to the role and to Les mis as well. I never had the chance to see John in person and it makes me so sad, I adore him. He's so underappreciated and he IS the phantom.
@christinegrrl I always thought the 'All I Ask of You' reprise was in the Phantom's head. He's hearing their happiness in his mind and knows he will never share the same feelings.
Never had a chance to see any poto live.. I was only able to watch the movie (which I really love very much) , the 25th (on Google Play), the recorded version of LND and other clips from different poto performances. She is indeed the best Chritine in my opinion and he's the best phantom.. This made me feel something new about POTO.
This is the first time of seeing, much less hearing Gina Beck. I am astonished of her emotion, it is so riveting. It must of took a lot of energy to pull emotion to her acting. There are many poses throughout the show that I have always liked, but the one where Christine stands between Raoul and Erik, is just soooooooooooo moving and emotional for me.
This is brilliant! John Owen Jones is such a wonderful singer! Gina Beck is amazing here though, it's the first time I've really seen her in action, and wow! What a performance! I'm not usually much a fan of female singers (I tend to get obsessed with male singers more) but she is superb!
Gina's voice gives me chills! I hope that they do another album/concert soon (or even a radio broadcast like they did on BBC with JOJ once for Les Mis) and cast Gina.
I have seen the Phantom 13 times and wish once I could see and hear Gina Beck as Christine. Next to Sarah She sends chills down my spine. Tnx for the up load.
I saw John Owen-Jones live around two weeks ago, and he was truly incredible. He's my second favourite phantom after Colm Wilkinson. The part when he screams 'go now and leave me' brought me to tears. He's genuinely one of the most talented actors in musical theatre at the moment, not to mention his astounding voice which I couldn't explain in words if I had the vocabulary of Stephen Fry.
That was the second best final lair I've ever seen, the best being Samantha Hill, Hugh Panaro. and Kyle Barisch. I saw if sitting in the front row and I was sobbing uncontrollably at the end of it all. But this is incredible! That kiss..... oooooh my goodness. Gina's acting is also seriously amazing! How I wish I had been there to see this!
I had no idea who John Owen-Jones was until I saw the 25th Anniversary performance in the theater last week. I've seen Phantom countless times on Broadway and with touring companies across the US, and just listening to the few seconds of his voice at the end, when the 4 of them were singing with Sarah Brightman, was enough for me to go home and immediately Google him and find out as much as I could about him.
It’s been a long time since I’ve watched this and wow am I glad I watched it again! Gina Beck and John Owen Jones are right up there with Sierra Boggess and Ramin Karimloo for my absolute favorite Phantom and Christine! Gina and John are both spectacular in the roles, their voices and acting and portrayals of the characters are just phenomenal! One of my favorite final lairs too
Same. Crying over JOJ since December. He and Gina would have been the phantom and christine in the 25th anniversary if wasn't for that mercenary mackintosh. I wish someone had filmed his final lair with Katie Hall in west end
Am I the only one who thinks Gina Beck definitely pulled the emotion in the kiss the first one looks like she is doing it because she has to but the second one looks gentle like she is doing it out of love
Yes definiteley. One of my top fav christines. She is putting so much emotion in her acting.

Gina's cobra into the "HAAAAAAATE".... BRAVA.
Never saw it that way! Nice!
Ripping off the Veil is what really got me. "Holy Crap she did she.. OH NO SHE DIDN'T!"
Love her tears of hate, you can feel the anger rising in her voice til it peaks and tearing the veil gives it an added layer

There are many poses throughout the show that I have always liked, but the one where Christine stands between Raoul and Erik, is just soooooooooooo moving and emotional for me.
I wish everyone would stop comparing them John & Ramin. They're both amazing for different reasons
I'm in tears.....honestly one of the best phantoms ever
This is brilliant! John Owen Jones is such a wonderful singer! Gina Beck is amazing here though, it's the first time I've really seen her in action, and wow! What a performance! I'm not usually much a fan of female singers (I tend to get obsessed with male singers more) but she is superb!
Gina's voice gives me chills! I hope that they do another album/concert soon (or even a radio broadcast like they did on BBC with JOJ once for Les Mis) and cast Gina.
JOJ is truly amazing!!!
I'm speechless
She has an absolutely beautiful voice :0
By far the best final lair I've ever seen!!!! They were both unbelievably beautiful in their roles!
10:29 That hand thing is my second favorite on how the Phantom ends "It's over now"
John will always be my favourite Phantom, alongside with Michael Crawford of course.
This is one of the best Final Lair's. Both JOJ and Gina is perfect. Magical.
Each person who has played the Phantom has their own unique style, so it's hard to say that one actor is better than another.
My favorite Phantom scene of all time, by my favorite Phantom and Christine
Gina is lovely and so good
I had no idea who John Owen-Jones was until I saw the 25th Anniversary performance in the theater last week. I've seen Phantom countless times on Broadway and with touring companies across the US, and just listening to the few seconds of his voice at the end, when the 4 of them were singing with Sarah Brightman, was enough for me to go home and immediately Google him and find out as much as I could about him.
What a magnificent Christine...wow
what i would give/pay to see this pair live
It really makes this part emotional when christine gives the phantom the ring and not only is the phantom crying, but christine is too.....
OMG! The acting and singing are superb! Some of the later versions don't draw out nearly the amount of emotion. Amazing!
Gina Beck my favorite Christine acting wise. She is great.
I loved the way she said "Have you gorged yourself at last in your lust for blood?" So much emotion!!!!
It’s funny the things that make me cry,The “I love you” bit didn’t.Its the “Say you’ll share with me one live one lifetime”
Me: *Sobs uncontrollably*
Same
It’s been a long time since I’ve watched this and wow am I glad I watched it again! Gina Beck and John Owen Jones are right up there with Sierra Boggess and Ramin Karimloo for my absolute favorite Phantom and Christine! Gina and John are both spectacular in the roles, their voices and acting and portrayals of the characters are just phenomenal! One of my favorite final lairs too
I watched this too many times
Same. Crying over JOJ since December. He and Gina would have been the phantom and christine in the 25th anniversary if wasn't for that mercenary mackintosh. I wish someone had filmed his final lair with Katie Hall in west end
