YES!!! FINALLY MY CAR! This car is a hidden jewl, and for anyone looking for a super cheap, badass car, get this! You can get one for under 4k with a 2jz. This is the poor man's supra!
Donovan Chung would rather have an SC pre OBD2, easier to tune, not vvti so easier to turbo, also thousands of dollars cheaper, and better looking imo. IS300 is much harder to turbocharge and also SC's are easier to swap out the 2jz and put in 1j's or gte's

I sooooo love the Lexus sc 300/400... I owned 7 of them. I actually have a 2013 bmw 650i and I rather drive the sc. I just bought another sc300 last week, color black- tan guys💪. This car will never get old!
I bought a 240sx to drop a 2j and use it to cruise around and enjoy the power, now that I'm seeing this I think I should've bought a sc300 and slapped a turbo onto it lol
I don't understand how 44 people dislike this video...I would love a clean sc300 like the one in this video. Style and comfort is the way to go for me. Can't really finger bang the girl you picked up while banging gears and hittin boost...Although you prolly can as it has been done many times before hahaha
Its cool how cheap Lexus’s are but how extremely luxurious they are plus they are by far the most reliable cars on the road. I drive a 98 es300 and im 16 years old. They are great first cars but i’ll be purchasing many in the future.
I have an H2B civic. No AC, or power steering (won’t fit) I would like to get a nice comfortable daily like this. Something that super quiet as far road noise, good sound system, and ice cold AC!! And soft suspension
My first car was a 1992 SC300 in 2007, and I still have it. It now has 248k and runs like a champ. Burgundy with tan interior, 2" drop, some videos from when I bought it on my channel actually. I've kept it between owning a '99 Cobra and now a '14 Gt, and cry not being able to keep it insured and running because of budgeting because it really is the best driving car I've ever driven. Glad to see you finally review one and like it so much! Your channel was one of the reasons i even considered my 5.0.
2J is always a winner despite the model whether its a GS, SC, Supra, Aristo etc... Sweet SC300 by the way. Hope the owner is a Club Lexus member, if not, have him join the forum.
+albussnow Oh yes, totally forgot about the GS little brother IS300. Amazing car, for those who wanted a 4 door manual transmission from the factory opt for this beast since the GS only came in automatic with tiptronic.
I bought this car from Nick shortly after this video was made back in may 2015 and I still own it, I've replaced alot of parts since then but have kept it stock, I drove it from 5th Tampa to Las Vegas 2 years ago, where I have lived since. I still love this car, Its my second SC300 I've owned.
After i sold this car to you, iv regrated not getting your info so i can see what you would do to it. Do you still have it? Id love to see what it looks like now. I miss this car, so after 7 years of not having one, i just bought a 98 Sc400.
Clean! Went on Craigslist after this video. Props to the owner for his tasteful yet incredibly Simple mods. This would make a nice daily while I build my Rsx or buy an evo and build that.
I own an SC400, and every so often I have to come back and watch this, because it makes me feel even better about my car. The opening of this video is ICONIC, and forms the mental picture in my head, of SC perfection, even when I am away from the screen. In fact, the previous owner of my car, told me that THIS VIDEO was what spurred him to even want one in the first place. haha
Wow.. very clean for sure... I love the wheels and color combo. This was one of Lexus' first attempt at the luxury sportscar & a forerunner of the LFA although the LFA truly is in a class by itself. You crane sequences are getting so much the tits... LOL. You are right the car still has some mystique. Nice job mate ThatDudeinBlue
DoctaM3 And then the SC430 which was only good for pensioners in Florida. Lexus really screwed up on that one, but the LFA, RCF and ISF have made up for that.
Hey dude. I know this isn't really related to what you do, but I'm going through some tough times right now and your videos make me feel really happy because I love cars and seeing your extremely well made videos, combined with such beautiful cars is relaxing.
Just wanted to pop in and say I recently ended up picking up a 97 SC300 factory 5-speed around the Atlanta area after oggling over the SCs for months and watching videos like this one over them. Long story short is there is a stage 3 clutch in that thing; It's a little bumpy getting going from a stop, but it gives the drive train a bit of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde duality going on.
I had a 1jz gte version for years modded it nicely ran it on 17.5 psi it never missed a beat was a great car i just wish manual versions weren't so expensive.
@@killa4eva50 That was on the stock twins the most important mod to keep them alive is replace the terrible factory dump pipe with a nice separated pipe then I had a full 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust with a high flow cat and a large front mount intercooler with pipe kit and a custom air intake as large as I could make it. I changed the oil every 5k km and never had a problem with the turbos in 5 years of driving it pretty hard.
The 90s lexus models were great. I own a 92 es300 and 94 ls400. Some chrome stock wheels, lowered suspension, tinted windows and a wax job is all you need for these 90s lexy cars. Even if somebody can best you in a race there not sittin the same way with a lexus.

I was looking all over for a modern review of this car and couldn't find anything. Thanks so much for doing this car and please do more hidden gems like these :D
I own a 92 Lexus sc300 bought it about a month ago for$900 not a single problem. I love this car I have wanted one since I first seen it when I was younger.
To me this is the best styling (not counting the LF-A) Lexus has ever made to this date. It's almost Supra MK4 like. Nice sleek coupe. I saw one just like this parked and very taken care of but instead of the black badges, it had gold plated badges. Very beautiful car. I would pursue one of these instead of any of the current cars they're selling. And yes I agree, not all the time you need 300, 400, 600 hp to have fun driving a car. I don't want to do anything to my FRS, because I enjoy my drive, I love the way it looks, it's just perfect for me. Plus I don't have to worry about compromising my engine's life. In the past when I modified my cars, it would tend to attract all the assholes on the road with shrimp dick syndrome who needed to race to compensate for inadequacies.
An as owner of an Sc300 me self it feels good to get some recognition on the car. Hardly anyone knows what car it is, and in meets it gets a lot of looks. Mine is also stock just on some rims and lowered a bit. sadly auto as well. If anyone is looking to buy one, make sure you buy a 5 speed one, they are kinda hard to find but usually no drift tax on these bad boys. 1995 Lexus Sc300, 240XXX miles :)
There were both N/A and turbo versions on the Supra. So your not wrong in saying its should be the Soarer, but it could also be the Supra. Some mother company, same engine.
Since you're new time the car scene, other Toyota's around that time that were nice would be the Cresta, Chaser and Mark 2 Tourer. Not to mention the usual...
What should i get as my first car? Something fun pls. Im 17 and only get about $9 an hour. Mainly looking for something under 5000. As of now i have 1.2k.
Like i said to the other guy fwd no sliding but its reliable best choice ive ever made rwd requires more expierence and save as much as you can and go south for a car if you happen to live in a northern place because thats where youl find a rust free car for cheap no rust also normally means lest problems
I live right in the middle. I live in MD right next to DC. I know how to drive, RWD is all iv driven. My dad wants to sell me his 2004 Acura TL which is fwd for 6k and its in great condition but eh. I really prefer a 2 door rwd car that isnt an old honda civic or accord.. Really hate hondas lol.
GxD obviously youve never owned one i dont like fwd but my prelude is quick clean and starts every day at 16 years old it runs perfect and youve been driving for what 6+ months and at 17 you need something reliable not quick and slidy cus i guarantee every 240sx you find has been beat to a pulp for 200000 miles and is an inch from blowing up so unless you have money for a swap its bad
Actually iv been driving since 15. Youre right, iv never owned a honda but iv been in hondas so much..I just hate hondas period. Who said anything about a 240sx?
the fact you said not every car has to be 'a million horsepower' made me smile cuz my little fiesta st mk6 runs about 170 HP and that is such a fun little car to drive :D
Tavarish fucking ruined it for me lol. Was going to be my first car but he wrote an article about 'em like a month before I was going to buy one and they all disappeared off the classifieds instantly
+iliovecaRS The later model years ('97-'00) commend a premium due to upgraded bumpers/sideskirts, tail lights/fogs, steering wheel, etc. Ones with black interior are especially hard to find. With 120-150k miles these cars normally sell for roughly $6,000-$7,000. The earlier pre-'97 especially with tan interiors and automatics are the most common and the cheapest ones, they can be had as low as $2,000-$3,000 but most will be in very rough shape with 200k+ miles.
Bruh it's the smart man's Supra. The car is thousands of dollars cheaper, and with around 2k in parts you can get the exact same performance HP-wise. The 2JZGE is unkillable and you can easily run 20 PSI of boost, and if you want to push it, 25 PSI with new injectors and a head gasket. (which with the turbo kit is around 2k) Why would you buy a Supra when you can get the luxury version cheaper and make it perform the exact same with a little bit of work?
((225/14.7)x25)+225=607 horsepower. For only injectors, a head gasket, and a turbo kit, being able to push 607 horsepower out of a car that goes for 2k-8k on Craigslist is ridiculous. A *high* estimate for the car and all the work would be $10k. A 600+ horsepower car for 10k is a fucking steal.
Sc300’s and its Twin with a better heart, the Soarer are one of my “obtainable” dream cars, once im able to have a good paying job, im going to buy a Soarer and just love it
just bought one on ebay in the blind- only 115k miles- middle aged guy here- just wanted a good looking cruiser/commuter, and wanted the legendary 2JZ, engine even if it don't have the turbo
The SC300's are very beautiful cars. They can be modified to be nice performance cars. I currently have a 1993 SC300. It's a vary clean car that has been well taken care of.
I enjoyed this review. These are simply beautifully engineered automobiles. Period. I am the proud owner of a 1998 Lexus SC400 with 45,500 original miles. Unmolested and stock. Silver over black leather. Chrome Lexus 5 spokes and Nakamichi stereo. Possibly the lowest mileage '98 in the country. They are a dream to drive!
My Pop Pop has a 1996 Buick Riviera, which was one of the SC300's competitors. It is very underrated too. Its quiet, has a 3.8L supercharged V6 with a decent 240hp. Its great performance and comfort, and style is as good as a Lexus SC in my opinion.
with these ones, its important to note that the vvti version of the 2jz-ge did not have very strong rods like the GTE, so its not quite as simple as slapping a turbo on and making power. if you want to go na-t with the 2jz, your best bet is to get the old model (
Ah, the 90's... Best years for Japanese sports cars and classic German luxury cars.

1st Gen SC is one of the nicest coupe designs - timeless.
With a drop and nice wheels - it looks better and just as modern than most new coupes today.

Rake Rider no, its just that a lexus generally is alot more comfortable than a toyota and has more of a sleeper element to it
The red colour, the tan interior, and silver wheels all contrast with one another so well. Nik, good job bud! Looks amazing!
Thanks man
Kinda new to the car scene is this a Toyota soarer?
Martyr Maggot yes
Since you're new time the car scene, other Toyota's around that time that were nice would be the Cresta, Chaser and Mark 2 Tourer. Not to mention the usual...
Yes it's the expensive Lexus version of the can of peanuts priced soarers. A curved 2dr jzx...
Mitch P yes it is
One of my favorite cars and reviews , just a perfect video to watch !
This car is now sold
how much did you get for it?
This is another great review of yours. Quality is high and your unbiased & honest opinion is enlightening as usual.
Fc rx7. Stop playing around.
Actually iv been driving since 15. Youre right, iv never owned a honda but iv been in hondas so much..I just hate hondas period. Who said anything about a 240sx?
the fact you said not every car has to be 'a million horsepower' made me smile cuz my little fiesta st mk6 runs about 170 HP and that is such a fun little car to drive :D
thought it was gonna be a review of that civic si on your instagram :(
Props to your intros man, you have nice beauty shots of the cars. Keep it up!
Tavarish fucking ruined it for me lol. Was going to be my first car but he wrote an article about 'em like a month before I was going to buy one and they all disappeared off the classifieds instantly
omg same
I have a '98 silver with black interior, mint car. Everything works 110%. This is my 4th and it took a while to track down :)
+Alex T how much u played for it ?
+iliovecaRS The later model years ('97-'00) commend a premium due to upgraded bumpers/sideskirts, tail lights/fogs, steering wheel, etc. Ones with black interior are especially hard to find. With 120-150k miles these cars normally sell for roughly $6,000-$7,000.
The earlier pre-'97 especially with tan interiors and automatics are the most common and the cheapest ones, they can be had as low as $2,000-$3,000 but most will be in very rough shape with 200k+ miles.
Found a clean with 89k dark green w/tan it was for 5500 but it was sold :(
Absolutely beautiful car! Awesome review, as always David! :)
the car has a very supra vibe to it
its the poor man's supra
T4LT Hereticus fuck yeah bro! Im with you on that.
This car doesn’t miss from any angle. Perfectly balanced design. Lexus definitely had a masterpiece of a design with this one
2jzgte + manual swap IT
Very clean. I had my accord like that. Lowered with rims. & a stereo system.
Shanksquad
Sc300’s and its Twin with a better heart, the Soarer are one of my “obtainable” dream cars, once im able to have a good paying job, im going to buy a Soarer and just love it
"The car is an automatic."
*turns off video*
JK. Nice review!
2:27 you forgot beefier Pistons and Rods, the head from a 2JZ-GTE and the ECU to tie it all up
looks like a stretched out integra
Dante Planeta and a little bit of celica
The old one
Been waiting for this review! It looks so good! Good job on the review.
Ahhh the sc300. The supra's ugly, fatter slower cousin.
Ugly & fat?!
The SC looks really nice! Classy!
Plus, the Supra looks a bit fatter…
Still love the Supra though! ;)
Your right abt the less is more with the wheels. And that red paint with tan int is just perfect!!
i have a red 95' always thought of it as a older folk car until I dropped a 1jz and saw it come alive even if you dont love your lexus
always loved these cars since i was a kid playing gt1, nice to see you reviewing one.
Nothing better than coming home to another great video
just bought one on ebay in the blind- only 115k miles- middle aged guy here- just wanted a good looking cruiser/commuter, and wanted the legendary 2JZ, engine even if it don't have the turbo
Such a beautiful car! looks really good!!
Why would anyone dislike...great vid David! :)
They are a dream to drive!
your videos make mondays better dude!
My Pop Pop has a 1996 Buick Riviera, which was one of the SC300's competitors. It is very underrated too. Its quiet, has a 3.8L supercharged V6 with a decent 240hp. Its great performance and comfort, and style is as good as a Lexus SC in my opinion.
been waiting for this forever
with these ones, its important to note that the vvti version of the 2jz-ge did not have very strong rods like the GTE, so its not quite as simple as slapping a turbo on and making power. if you want to go na-t with the 2jz, your best bet is to get the old model (
Nice! Thank you for doing the Sc300. Really love this car, and glad you're able to get your hands on one. Shame manuals are hard to come by though...
That car is clean AF
