The original lore had multiple sets of chaos emeralds for different islands and locations. They never needed to be consistent since they’re never the same set
To be fair, Battle seems to just be working with sprite limitations, as Tails mentions all the emerald shards needing to be 'of the same colour' to put them together, something that would be redundant if they were all green.
hey @JustMaxT there are 2 types of emeralds you missed Sonic Rush Sol Emeralds and Archie's 6 Red Alien Chaos Emeralds ! See Sonic the Hedgehog attempted to use the six red Chaos Emeralds to turn into Super Sonic. But they were unstable without a 7th Emerald ! So an Evil Super Sonic was created ! When Sonic was tossed into space after the Xorda Attack on Mobius, this separate version of Super Sonic was created on Thoraxia when Sonic attempted to use the red Chaos Emeralds of Apyx to defend the Blodex from the Bzzzz. This second Super Sonic proved utterly malevolent and and tried to destroy the planet. Fortunately, the effects of the Emeralds wore off, and the evil Super Sonic disappeared. (StH: issue number #126) interesting though is that it seems This incarnation of Super Sonic was seemingly based off his counterpart from the UK's Fleetway Sonic the Comic series. hummm mite be somthing worth looking into ! :)
Spoilers for Fang #3 ... ... ... ... ... Despite Fang's best efforts, there doesn't seem to be an eighth Chaos Emerald at all. Turns out, so-called "eighth Emerald" might've actually been the Warp Topaz the whole time. Who knows... maybe Fang's mysterious informant might be a younger Dr. Starline?
Wasn't the 8th "emerald" that Fang was searching for actually something else? I don't remember what it was called, but it ended up not being a chaos emerald
From my memory, the main Chaos Emeralds and Super Emeralds colors are: Green, Red, Blue, Yellow, Cyan, Purple and White And the fake Chaos Emeralds (Sonic X) are all: Black
So I always had a theory about why Robotnik had so many blue emeralds in Spinball; Only one was the original blue Chaos Emerald, and the rest were copies he'd made (I mean if Tails can make fake emeralds, so can Robotnik, right?) to power the Veg-O-Fortress. They were powerful enough to run machinery, but not powerful enough for Sonic to turn Super, hence Sonic taking them JUST to power down the fortress as he progresses upwards. Probably not a great theory, probably full of holes I'm not seeing, but it's the way I always figured it.
But if we think about it, the chaos emeralds in sonic spin ball look a lot like time stones and they’re also blue just like the time stone eggman took at the end of sonic cd…coincidence?
- I agree with the more-than-seven concept, as far as a single set of emeralds for the entire world is concerned; I personally would first point out that Sonic 3 has *eight* emeralds in it, including both the "Golden" and Yellow emeralds that are allegedly both the same emerald. A rough estimate of mine would be 21 chaos emeralds, but there might be more or less... - In the anime "Sonic X", the eighth emerald is simply the seven merged together, but I would like to see the magenta emerald be seperate from the others. - To me, the "Golden" emerald from Sonic 3 looks orange in color, and having eight emeralds in the game continues adding one each game. - In my mind, the following emeralds exist (the same goes for the Chaos Rings, the Sol Emeralds, etc.)- Maroon Red (Knuckles) Vermillion Orange (Tails) Yellow (Ray; Bark) Chartreuse Green (Vector; Bean) Seafoam Turquoise Blue (Sonic) Indigo (Fang; Espio; Big) Purple Magenta Light Pink White Light Grey Dark Grey Black Platinum Gold Silver Bronze Iron Steel - To depict several of these using sprites from the games, one might turn to using the color palettes of the characters... See Above /\
Fun fact, originally the islands from Sonic 1-3 had their own sets of emeralds. In 3 Knuckles takes West Island's set, and hide them along with the set already on Angel Island, the Super Emeralds. It's not canon now unless they decide to bring it back. But it would make everything fit together better up until Frontiers BUT the Master Emerald is really an open mystery. We need a lore master on that thing.
I kind of liked the uncountable number of Emeralds in the Archie comic. Along with allowing characters to go super, they could be used as power sources, mystical enhancers, and all kinds of stuff. I guess the ultimate explanation was that there were seven colors, and Mobius simply had all the green ones. I even thought of an idea to bring back multitudes of emeralds again. Some mystic character, in my stories a troll like Naugus, assembles the seven Chaos Emeralds around the Master Emerald to recreate the Super Emeralds. But just as the process is finished and the Super Emeralds and not yet stable, one is damaged, and all are sympathetically bound, so all seven shatter. The true Chaos Emeralds are still around but now there are shards of emeralds. They can look like cut gems or raw stones, but each set of matching seven can work in tandem. Only the original 7 can allow someone to go Super, but a matching set of seven could be used to power the Eclipse Cannon for instance. But also, only matching sets work together. Get two emeralds of the same color but different designs and they actively resist each other. I mainly wanted to do this to make an Infinity Gauntlet with emeralds. Smaller shards fit onto a gauntlet forged from power ring metal. the cyan shard will go on the palm.
you missed the 8th emerald in sonic 3 and sonic & Knuckles lol, granted it needs cheat codes to unlock the special stage but if memory serves its an orange yellow one and it has a super emerald counterpart so... sonic 1 they did 6 and sonic 2 did 7 and originally sonic 3 was gonna do 8 but then scrapped it down to 7 to try to be consistent across the now loved franchise but they go off in different directions all around...
If you read the Archie comics, then you already know they're only unique on earth. They're regular ore/crystals elsewhere in the universe potentially spread across multiple planets, and the ancients brought 7 to a world where the Master Emerald happened to be. It's a complicated thing that's likely now a mishmash of different continuities and canons. _But._ One thing is somewhat consistent among the different versions. They're not native to Earth/Mobius, so there may be more out there.
@JustMaxT or in sonic 3 first purple was killed by cyan then it got revived and wanted to take its place back from cyan and they started fight but accidentally killed pink in process and decided to do a truce or else other emeralds saw that 1 is missing (emeralds are colorblind here)
