I enjoy the musical performance. William Blake was very influenced by the Bible and Christianity, but saw them in a spiritual way, where this very world in which we live holds the Divine Vision, as he called it. If the doors of perception are cleansed, he wrote, then we can see the world as it really is, infinite. As for the images accompanying the music (orchestrated by Sir Edward Elgar), many are beautiful, but the last set showing bloody battle seem to miss the point: Blake was talking about a MENTAL fight for the Divine Vision. People debating, hugging, laughing together, or some other more peaceful images (pointing a finger = spear?) might have worked well, instead of being so literal with the images. Also, the "satanic mills" from Blake's poem were not physical mills: they are an imagery that Blake often used to convey the mind trapped in materialism, which darkens the ability to see what is real and beautiful.

Jerusalem for William Blake is an image of the world that lives and fulfills what he called the Divine Vision. When humanity, through "mental fight" one day sees the infinity and eternity in each moment, then Jerusalem will have been established. One of his epic poems is named "Jerusalem." Also, there was a myth that Jesus travelled to England during his (or His) life, and that is also part of the inspiration of these verses by William Blake. There is a lot of symbolism and a unique Blake-created mythology conveyed in these words, which ironically do not come from the poem "Jerusalem", but from another epic poem by Blake named "Milton."
I love how the British, living in a small island on the periphery of history and civilization, thousands of kms away from Israel, even from Rome, think God would choose that rainy island to build his capital. How things are going London is more new new Delhi or new Islamabad than Jerusalem.
A bit late but you do know this song was written about building a "Jerusalem" in England, not that it was actually there. The writer of the song knew this, but he feared industrialization would ruin England's natural beauty. So, he wished that the people would come together and build something better. Kind of like a heaven on earth.

It was taken from William Blake's long, complex poem "Milton." William Blake never knew it would be used in that way. It is based on a story that Jesus came to England during his life and in effect blessed the nation and the land. Blake dreamed of humanity living its full potential of seeing the infinity and eternity that are always present, if we would cleanse the doors of perception. Jerusalem is the symbolic "city of God," where God is our fully achieved divine nature such as expressed by Jesus. We achieve that potential through the "mental fight" Blake references. O lord jesus come again on the england mountain green
Hello
If that don't get you nothing will
Can somebody explain what does Jerusalem means in these lyric?

English patriotic song*
This song was first released when ??
England is now has become Englishsthan . So singing this song would be offensive for liberals
Bony Paul Nope. I’m a liberal and I love this song
@@assortedtom498 I think he means neo marxist nuts
@@BounceBackBelfast neo Marxists are so idiot as neo nazi.
@@assortedtom498 Do you also love the calls to prayer...?
Marxist here, nope not offensive. We don't have power in the UK, like at all. Not evne a light soc dem, a full on ML.
English Patriotic Song
I love how the British, living in a small island on the periphery of history and civilization, thousands of kms away from Israel, even from Rome, think God would choose that rainy island to build his capital. How things are going London is more new new Delhi or new Islamabad than Jerusalem.
statisticswillkillyou, that small island gave the world so much, and most sensible people who arn't biased against the British, know that!
@@williammorley2401 correct
Half wit.
You do realise the bearded wizard who walks on water isntreal dintyih but why so TRIGGERED 😭???
A bit late but you do know this song was written about building a "Jerusalem" in England, not that it was actually there. The writer of the song knew this, but he feared industrialization would ruin England's natural beauty. So, he wished that the people would come together and build something better. Kind of like a heaven on earth.
Got the feeling that it is more English than Welsh or Scottish and i think the latter would object.
English Patriotic song. No reference to rest of Britain is there.
English, not British. Very important distinction.
It was great, promoting England, then it ends with the union flag which is not, does not, represent England, that flag represents everyone but England!
It does mate, the Cross of St. george is on there, but I undestand what you mean. It's not an English flag, but a British one
@@ctwarboss6913
OK, so the union flag represents England, how many Scottish MPs in Parliament?
How many Welsh MPs in Parliament?
How many MPs from Northern Ireland?
How many English MPs in Parliament? None, the English are not represented, we have no Parliament of our own. The Scottish, Welsh and NI vote on English issues and laws alongside the British MPs. That flag does not represent England in any way shape or form, its represents a political union of everyone but the English. I find it offensive that the SNP always regards Westminster as the English parliament, its everything but and they know it, just anti English racists.
@@jackjonesy9232 Agreed but we are the dominant force in the union, that’s why the SNP wants independence. The flag does represent us and even if all the non English MPs banded together, the force of the English MPs would still bring majority
@@ctwarboss6913
They all identify as British MPs, NONE regard themselves as ENGLISH, in fact these people have demonised our flag, called us racists and if you're paying the slightest bit of attention you'll see the ongoing destruction of England and the English ethnicity by allowing anyone in unchecked, these are not racist comments unless you deem facts as racist, which they do. Now to further this anti English agenda Boris the communist bed wetter has started to mention England more and more, so has the media, the reason being when everything goes tits up the English will get the blame, its what the British state does, commits crimes then uses the media to cover it up and point the blame elsewhere. Time to wake up. The white straight Englishman is the most persecuted in the world, mostly from within our borders, we have a constitution which is being ignored. Things are going to get very messy very quickly in my opinion. The Long March has turned into the Dash For The Finishing Line!
@@jackjonesy9232 Also your excuse for the Union flag is ridiculous. The current Union Jack was made in 1801, with the formation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. It has, and always will, represent the United Kingdom and its constituent countries on England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland
Rule Britannia!!🇬🇧🇬🇧
Must be the English anthem with Land of hope and glory.
Go back to the True Church England 🏴 🙏🏻
No offense, this is an awesome song but Land of Hope and Glory is better at representing England overall and it’s generally for all the people
Land of Hope and Glory represents the whole of the UK. This anthem only represents England only. Both have their place.
It's offence, not 'offense', unless you're American. Please use and preserve our proper English language and avoid adopting unnecessary Americanisms. xx

Leave it to the English to have the WEIRDEST of anthems. Not a line of that made sense from eginning to end ^^
Yes, it is difficult to understand if the context is not known.
This is an English patriotic song not British ffs
People dont seem to follow that this is a criticism of England, not praise.

Should be English person not British your only British if you chose to be or are not born in England the clue is out there.Till I die.!!!!!!!
I sang this great anthem as a member of the Cathedral Choral Society of Washington D.C. at a United Nation's Day concert in 1993 and just fell in love with it.
Gave me goose bumps! Thank you for sharing 💜🤍🦢
Its English not British, by English poet and English composer.
Blake knew his history… Two thousand years ago, most of modern England was in Cymru. It was called Lloegr.
