  • The holidays in New York City is one of my favorite places to celebrate Christmas (and all of our other related holidays!) We are going to cover a few of the top FREE things you can do in NYC as well as a bonus event that isn't free, but it's so awesome I had to mention it!
We are going to cover the below events:
    1) Bryant Park's Winter Village (address: Bryant Park, New York, NY 10018)
This is a great place to check out holiday lights, the giant tree and to look at the food and vendor stalls.
    2) Bryant Park's Ice Rink
A FREE Ice Rink to skate around in (if you bring your own skates!) It's really big and beautiful, and it has great music and sights all around it.
    3) Macy's (and other retailers) Holiday Window Displays
Originally designed to draw people into the stores, now they are a spectacle in itself.
Start at the bottom of Central Park and walk down admiring the incredible Holiday Window Displays at some of New York's most famous stores:
    Barneys
    Bloomingdale's
    Bergdorf Goodman
    Tiffany & Co
    Cartier
    Saks Fifth Avenue
    Lord Lord & Taylor
    Macy's
    4) Meeting Santa in Santaland (Sixth Avenue and 34th Street)
Meet Santa for FREE and explore Santaland and all of its cool, holiday decorations on the 8th floor!
    5) Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Light Show - 611 Fifth Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets
Outside of Sak's Fifth Avenue in the evening time, the light show is a huge, coordinated event with music and accompanying animations.
    6) Bill's Place (148 W 133rd St, New York, NY 10030)
Not free, but the most fun you could have for $20. Bring your own alcohol and snacks, and watch jazz legends play amazing tunes in a small, intimate space.

    Transcript highlights:
Fun fact: Rowland Macy created one of the first major holiday window displays in 1874. The first ever display was a collection of porcelain dolls from around the world and scenes from Harriet Beecher Stowe’s “uncle Tom’s Cabin.” This was a retail strategy designed to entice shoppers into the store but now it has become an iconic holiday experience.
in 1862 Rowland Macy was also the first to introduce an in-store Santa for children to visit.
Santaland starts on November 24 and ends on December 24 it is located on the 8th floor of Macy’s.
Next stop: New York’s Iconic Christmas tree. Since 2007 each year after the display the tree is then turned into lumber and donated to Habitat for Humanity to build comes.
Right next to the huge tree is Sak’s 10 story tall light show! This year it’s titled Once Upon a Holiday. The shows starts from 4:30 to 1am every 10 minutes. It’ll be up until January 20. This is year is special because they partnered up with Disney to celebrate the 80th year of Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. There are 14 animated holiday window displays all along Fifth Avenue. This was the first time Saks will have all animated windows in it’ 94 year history!
Now I’m going to take you on a journey to Harlem to enjoy some good jazz music. It’s a cool little place call Bill’s place thats located in someone’s home. the cool thing about this place is you can bring your own beer wine. whatever you want to drink while you enjoy good live jazz music.
