My list of Audiobook Narrators. Some are dupes some aren't. Joniece Abbott-Pratt Wesleigh Siobhan Jakobi Diem (My man! My man! My man!) Adenrele Ojo Cary Hite (King of Narrators) Nicole Small Shari Peele Winston James Eboni Flowers Emmanuel Ingram Benjamin Charles Trei Taylor Keith Benn Jr. Lynette Freeman Ja'Air Bush Ida Belle Myles Washington iiKane I will be checking out the narrators that aren't dupes mentioned in this video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for sharing these! I know Eboni Flowers, iikane (I do like hbut I haven’t heard enough for her to be a fave yet), and Winston. I will definitely check out the others!
Thanks for these recommendations! In order for me to enjoy an audiobook, the narrator has to be on point. Sean Chrisden narrates a lot of Alexandria House too. Now I only associate him with those characters.
We love the same narrators. A bad narrator can ruin the audio experience for me. Consider: January Lavoy, Myra Lucretia Taylor, Peter Francis James, Susan Dalian, Susan Spain, Machelle Williams, Ezra Knight, Peter Jay Fernandez Kim Staunton
I agree!! Then I have to switch formats🤦🏾♀️ Thank you for this list!! I do love January (forgot her) and I’m looking forward to checking out the rest of these 💜
I am so happy I watched this video of yours. Not only did I get some very informative content, but I also found some books to add to my collection.😊 I never paid attention to the narration to this extent, but now, I know I will for sure be on the lookout for the names you mentioned in this video. thanks!
Dion Graham's narration of, Standing at the Scratch Line is outstanding. This book was written by Maya Angelou's son, Guy Johnson and is a little known classic.
Okay this is like the 3rd time this book has been recommended to me! Heard y’all. I’m on it. I had no idea he is Maya Angelou’s son 😳 Dion Graham can really read me anything so this is the cherry on top.
@ChocolateCoveredPages BTW Samuel L. Jackson bought the film rights way back when, but it disappeared around 2008 during the writers strike. Echoes of a Distant Summer is the sequel.
Ma'am 1st off I didn't even know I NEEDED this video and honestly how fitting for you (having a distinct voice) to DELIVER! now all of sudden I have created an audio tbr and I have some rereads b/c I feel like I need to HEAR these voices lol girl not you takin me back to SHU🥰 when i say Alexandria House had me in an everlasting chokehold 🥴once upon a time ...smh I have never even considered narrators in a this way before as a reader bcus I've always been the 'read with eyes' girlie lol to know now that there are duo named narrators 🤯
Haha I DO have a distinct voice. Imagine how many times I tried to prank call someone as a kid and them being like “Keyona I know that’s you” 🤣🤣 Girlll you missing out. Shu has a whole voice with his name. It made him feel more real to me 😩 I probably would have never noticed the dual names if I wasn’t always bouncing between genres. And YES to the audio tbr!!
Thank you! I love Joniece Abbott-Pratt! When she's narrating, I know the book is bout to be good lol Thank you so much for these other narrators to check out!
Have you ever heard Sidney Poitier's THE MEASURE OF A MAN? It's his autobiography. He has such a phenomenal voice that I really wish that he could have done more audiobooks during his lifetime.
Ooo I have not read it but I have heard of it. I loveeee when actors narrate! I especially love when actors narrate their OWN books. Thanks for the rec ❤️❤️
Sorry to double comment but you are so right about the V.O. narrators having two or several names but I noticed it with Shayna Small aka Nicole? It's one name when they read urban fiction and another when they read literary or historical fiction. It's funny to us but I get it, its business for them and appealing to wider audiences.
Listen I LOVE double and triple comments! Lol never apologize for that. Yesss I said “romance” for a lot of these but I really was thinking “urban romance”. It is funny because if you read multiple genres it’s easy to know who is actually who.
One of my favorite narrators, I don’t believe she narrates anymore and I also found she narrated under a 2nd name (that I don’t remember lol) - Patricia R. Floyd. Quite a few on your list are my faves as well 😊. I enjoyed this video as an audiobook girlie!
Hi, Chocolate Covered Pages! I am so thankful for your video. I am looking for Black narrators to create my audiobooks. I used to use FINDAWAY VOICES' casting service, but it no longer exists. You have been very helpful in my search for talented narrators! ❤😊❤
I’m so glad that you can now click on the narrator and see every book that they are reading. One of my favorites is Carrie height. North Carolina checking in with you. Beautiful lady check out the narrator, Dylan Ford
Thank you. I love that feature too! What’s your favorite book with Cary Hite? I’m looking for more. So far I’ve only read him on 2 urban fiction series. I’ll definitely check out Dylan Ford thanks
@@ChocolateCoveredPages he has so many I’m going to have to go back through. It’s a couple, but right now I am listening to the roots and that dude does a great African voice really all the characters he does he changes the voices up.
I’m listening to Roots as well lol. That’s not Cary Hite. It’s Prentice Onayemi who I also mentioned in this video. I love him on any book set in Africa!
@@ChocolateCoveredPages I was referring to prentice he does a good job with the African accent, but when I find the book with Carrie hype, I will let you know it’s so many North Carolinian here
I listened to The Book of Night some years ago. After a couple of days of listening I was talking to somebody and slipped into patois ... I'm from KY, never heard it spoken consistently anywhere else, never been to the islands no connection to carribean community. Robin Miles did her thing.
I just got into audiobooks so this is literally right on time. I just searched for this but needed the blackity black version. Thank you!
Girl. I know the struggle so I was like I’m just going to make it myself 😩

Girl … the discovery of the double voices lol
I already knew the ones mentioned but I just connected Winston James to Jamie Lincoln Smith 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Ooo I didn’t know Winston had another name! Let me check out “Jamie” lol
I love that you included pictures. And you've mentioned all my favorites so far not done with the video yet.
It was only right to include photos! And the only ones I couldn’t find were the double agents 😂
Thanks for these recommendations! In order for me to enjoy an audiobook, the narrator has to be on point. Sean Chrisden narrates a lot of Alexandria House too. Now I only associate him with those characters.
Yesss sometimes they can make or break a book. I’ll have to look into Sean 🤔 haven’t heard of him before
this is EXACTLY what i needed. thank you for this!!! 💛
Yay! Happy to hear it. Thanks for watching 🥰
A Piece Of Cake was bomb alone so I can only imagine a good audio added to it.
Listennnn I remember listening on the subway and being like 😮😳😞🤯
c'mon thumbnail!😍
😂😂 had to switch it up on em

Oh great! Narrators can really make or break a book for me.
Love love love this vid! I read in tandem with audio and tangible/e-book. Narrators matter!……thanks for this ❤…..keep grinding girlie.
Thank you love! Yesss even if I have the physical I’m always going to see if I can get the audio as well so I can fully immerse myself.

Love this! Thank you! I’m a huge audiobook reader and I have been obsessed with Bahni Turpin and I just discovered Eunice Wong - she’s incredible!
Let me go ahead and check out Eunice 🤔 that’s a new one for me thank you!

Thank you! I love Joniece Abbott-Pratt! When she's narrating, I know the book is bout to be good lol Thank you so much for these other narrators to check out!
So true!! Hope you find some new faves ❤️❤️
what a fun video! I’m the same way with narrators. I listen to so many audiobooks i’ve started to learn their voices 😂 Added a few of these to my tbr.
Thank you! 🙌🏾 narrators are soooo important. Glad you could find some recs!

Hi,
Thank you! I am looking for more Black narrators! ❤
I listened to The Book of Night some years ago. After a couple of days of listening I was talking to somebody and slipped into patois ... I'm from KY, never heard it spoken consistently anywhere else, never been to the islands no connection to carribean community. Robin Miles did her thing.
Omg that is HILARIOUS 😂🤣🤣 thanks for sharing that laugh with me. Yea nobody slips into various accents as effortlessly as Robin
🙌🏽
🥰❤️❤️
Stephen Bishop is good also
I’ll have to check him out. Thank you!
I can’t stand aderenle ojo she’s has messed up a lot of books for me but all the others are ❤
😂 Damn. A lot?! Basically when you see she’s narrating you just have to go on ahead and switch to reading with your eyes at this point.
Basically! I’m outta there 😂
