Woke up this morning, perused youtube to see what was posted, saw a new Joey van der Steeg video was up and everything else was quickly down-graded as secondary. Thank God your posting videos again, this is awesome!
I love to watch you forge. You show the hammer blows, the position of the hammer and the direction of the blows. This all helps me. Also very nice hook
Your hammer control is the stuff of legends! You get more purposeful movement from one hammer blow than I do from any 5 of my own. Truly a pleasure to watch you work!
Have so missed the ring of your hammer to steel upon the many anvils. Learn to Forge! Paaalllleeeeeaaasssee! Ok whatever you say. Blessings aboundant Sir Crawford out🙏🔥⚒️🧙🏼♂️
It’s amazing that you keep finding all these pristine anvils. So many was destroyed and repurposed during the wars and what not. There isn’t to many for sale in the states. For what is they want new anvil prices and there usually damaged. Thankfully i lucked up on mine. Free and perfect shape. 😉
Interesting to see how the breast of the anvil restricts the deformation of the stock while drawing out. I'm sure there are more reasons for the breast, maybe a lesson on that would be interesting. Thank you for sharing
Finally a video that lets you comment, I just wanted to say you are the coolest blacksmith I've seen, I love your mini anvils they are beautiful, and all your videos are so instructional, awesome channel!
Awesome to see you back here. Thanks for the anvil lesson. I see that as one of the qualities that’s sets your videos apart from others…the library of knowledge that you pass on. Thank you and hope to see more.
Let me add my voice to all those thanking you for posting videos again. Perhaps some of us, too, will learn to be blacksmiths some day, and your videos are certainly a great nudge in that direction.
Very happy to see your back, Great Wall hook for sure and great anvil and anvil description love your videos. Very funny saying someday you are a very good smith
Hey good day, awesome video as always. You are the man! Quite the master for sure! Love The anvils,As well as the history lesson. Have numerous anvil’s, mostly German and European. One is 106 pound Bavarian with extra reinforced leg area or step you may say. It’s pretty cool. And numerous others. The side face is very handy, as you demonstrated in that beautiful piece you did. Despite any flaw that you may see, we all see its beauty. And imperfections are The nature of handwork. However, you certainly do not want to be a butcher :-). Thank you so much for the demo and inspiring everyone. Keep up the great work, as always. Stay well and have a beautiful day. Jim
I know exactly where you got this anvil. I just got a 196lb Original PFP single horn form the same guy, had the original chamfer and grinding on the face, as well as the original japanning finish. He has a lot of awesome anvils
Thoroughly enjoyed the video. Out of curiosity, how much of an investment would the number 11 have been when it was new? I only tinker around, and am very much still learning about blacksmithing and its history.
The comments are back!!
Great that you are uploading too!
Excellent to see you back mate.. We've all missed you!

And let me add that it's very nice to be able to go back, a year later, to refresh my memory. Thanks for leaving this up!
Very well done, enjoyed the video and I must admit I've got a bit of anvil envy going on.
You're videos are always worth watching
Great to see ya back ! Always something interesting to learn and a history lesson as well , fantastic content
I've been missing you !
Damn joey! That's a deep etch on that iron hammer. Looks like you found it at the bottom of the ocean in a ship wreck. It's gnarly, I dig it.
What a treat!!!
Your ability to draw out so much material so quickly has always astounded me. You're a huge inspiration of mine, keep up the great work!
Always nice watching you forge, Joey. But, I got to tell you, that hammer cracks me up! LOL 😉
Cheers!

I like this video. It's great.
First time seeing this channel, that turned out smooth and looks like you are extremely talented in the art.

Lovely video joe!
Welkom terug Joey! Dis lekker om jou terug te hê!
Joey, do you have your old videos archived somewhere? I miss the older videos.
Beautiful man
in the future can you make a video on case hardening and its history?
Great video! 👍
Hi long time
Hey Joey, nice demo. Can I ask what is the advantage of the angled breast side on the back of the anvil?
Thoroughly enjoyed the video. Out of curiosity, how much of an investment would the number 11 have been when it was new? I only tinker around, and am very much still learning about blacksmithing and its history.
I unfortunately do not have references to what this anvil would have cost in 1894.
Undoubtedly not cheap.
@@TechnicusJoe thank you for the reply, Mr. van der Steeg.
Mooi
If it can be done: snub nosed version of this. Not the hook end. Put the flower on side in a scroll (snub), and my life will be complete.
Andarilho
⚒️👋🏻👀👍🏻
What is the purpose of the breast?
Very cool video! :)
