looking at some older video's, a 1.5 inch PVC pipe with a open end and a bolt through the middle about the depth of the cork where you can drop the rod in when you have the line in your hand to land the fish might get more of the leader out of the water to make netting easier with 2 hands. Just a thought. Nice video, keep fishing. And SUV RV'ing.
I love fishing from my Tamarack Angler 100 fishing kayak. I take my kayak to a lake in the Sierras that's nearly 10,000 feet in elevation. Reachable via a very rough Jeep road, it offers brook and rainbow trout. None of which are over 14 inches long. It's a small lake (less than 6 acres) , but it's over 118 feet deep at the deepest point ! I like to paddle along and troll using my #9 full sinking 30 ft. shooting head fly line.I tie on a #10 Pistol Pete fly(great for trolling and stream fishing). My Lifetime Tamarack Angler comes with an excellent rod holder, and I added a Scotty Fly Rod holder to the other side so I can employ both my casting and fly rods while trolling. I have 2 brand new Wetfly Tenkara(10'6",and 13') rods that I plan on using this summer for fishing various rivers and streams in the Sierras. Maybe I'll try the Tenkara rods from my kayak on that high mountain lake. Can't wait !
welcome to yak angling! This is what I do mostly. Youre right ti seems like you need to be an octopus with multiple arms to mange all thats going on. I run a kayak based tournament series, some guys have crazy setups where they have motors or pedal so their hands free. which seems much must easier. Also its easier to fish from a sit on top kayak. Cool to see you doing it with tenkara, I typically spin cast or I'll troll flies. Gotta break out my tenkara to try now.
Kayak fishing is definitely a different beast, I got into it last year and I've been really enjoying it. If the weather holds out this weekend, I'm going to tenkara fish out of it for the first time. No trout where I live though, and definitely no water that clear. I fish in chocolate milk and catch all sorts of sunfish. A big bluegill on a tenkara rod is a blast. So are bass. That line hums like a guitar string with those guys.
You might find having a single paddle you can use with your left hand useful for short movements. There were a couple of boats on the lakes I fish, you could often get a bigger catch but constantly having to deal with the boat, did take some of the pleasure away.
This is one of my favorite lakes! I have many fun memories of fishing on this lake with my dad. So glad you are sharing this video. I have caught a few grayling there, easily 20:1 ratio of rainbow to grayling though. I always seemed to catch them more on the east side. I think it might be a little deeper/cooler on that side.
Awesome video! You should make more vids of you fishing out of a kayak. I recently got a pedal kayak, been having a ton of fun fishing with my Tenkara rods out of it!
@J G It's about stopping all non essential transport and community engagement. We're pushing for something close to a New Zealand style eradication. 17 dead today, the worst since this began in Aus.
awesome, wish we had that kind of resources here, water was crystal clear. Great fishing day, I would have been out there all day and loved every minute of it. Keep up the great videos.
Great! Enjoyed the change of pace. I think those Idaho lakes are nice and clear and just beautiful. I'll be up there in the Cd'A area in two weeks. Good fishing! Thank you! Griff
That is one clear lake brother.. looks like the small rivers around me. Spring river. I remember we discussed doing that from a kayak. Guess it is sort of doable.. lol..
What a cool lake, look like you where fishing with subsurface flies? I like the lake fishing too, its easier to see the fish taking your flies. Another part of the excitement, thanks for posting
Looking at those lily pads, my mind says "bass", not "trout"; I was expecting a Bill Dance video to break out at any time ')....in all seriousness, given the clarity and stillness of the water, I bet an overcast day would be awesome.
Been watching your videos for a while now and really enjoy them. Was wondering what that lightweight hooded shirt is that I see you wearing in your videos? Is it breathable? Used to live in Idaho ten or so years ago, now in southern Illinois and am looking for something breathable and lightweight for sun protection during hot weather-I burn easily so that hooded outer shirt looked like it might work for me. Thanks
Bonjour Tristan Super trip ! Beau plan d'eau Pourrais tu faire une vidéo spécifique sur les kebari que tu utilises et leur montages. La IKK (UKB) et la Black and Gold
me and kayak`s dont mix to well, it is a situation where i`m up-side down in the water and the kayak is belly/bottom up, so i just stick to shore fishing
10 fish on the first kayak fishing outing, very nice! it only happened to me once and I kayak (bass) fish regularly. How long is your line/rod? I guess it makes it even harder to land a fish especially when you are sitting down like that. Maybe switch to a paddle board type of rigs so you can stand or sit higher. Fully rigged fishing kayak won’t fit your RVing style.
Hey, check out Nikko micro baits! Incredible stuff. Just discovered them. If you want to attempt a bass at any point and of course crappie and panfish. You will like their baits.
Wow what a great channel this is, I’ve binge watched it the last 5 days since finding! Quick question, Do your flies stay on top as dry flies or do they sink as wet flies? If they sink How do you detect strikes? Do you by chance sell pre-tied flies or just the materials and instructions how to tie them? I’m new to Tenkara but like your style, and will probably try to mimic it in some ways…
Thanks Kev! They're wet flies. You watch the end of your line (where it meets the tippet) to watch for any movement you didn't cause. I don't sell pre-ties flies but there are several places online that do.
Love watching your videos. I put them on while I tie up flies. They get me pumped up and eager to get back out on the water. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?
Nice action enjoyed another one of your videos I tried fishing out of my rubber raft and navigating with paddles I ended up just using my hands to navigate away from rocks when I had a fish Towing me around but you did a real good job getting in position and catching a lot of nice fish.
A pristine, silent mountain lake, no wind, plenty of sunshine, and rainbows biting. That's nirvana raht thar.
I am Japanese tenkara fisherman. Kayak tenkara is new style. I aiso want to try Kayak tenkara.

Love that line/rod noise! I nymphed up some native trout on the lower Deschutes and they made my 17 ft Keiryu rod & line SING!
Lower D is amazing.

Just being outside is a great day!
Catching trout from a kayak on a tenkara...well, that's Outstanding! Beautiful!
At 4:06 you can see a trout spook from under your paddle, it almost looks like it’s the trout that takes the bait

a rod holder will help you land a fish. when unhooking the fish you can place the rod in the holder

I've never fished from a kayak but have fly fished (not tenkara) from a canoe (solo). A net anchor is very helpful, the kind you put rocks in.
Wow, very impressive outing - especially for first-time kayak angling. Well done - and thanks!
You might find having a single paddle you can use with your left hand useful for short movements.

That was a beautiful clear lake.
Drift socks are great for kayaks.

Surprised you didn't go mad with all the mosquitos that are at that lake! I could hardly fish it because they were so thick!
Float fishing tubes are great for western fly fishing and even greater for tenkara.
Awesome video! You should make more vids of you fishing out of a kayak. I recently got a pedal kayak, been having a ton of fun fishing with my Tenkara rods out of it!
Brilliant video. Kayak made a nice change. Fishing in Victoria, Australia banned right now, (virus), so your regular videos are very much appreciated.
@J G It's about stopping all non essential transport and community engagement. We're pushing for something close to a New Zealand style eradication. 17 dead today, the worst since this began in Aus.
Still water is my jam. Fish are usually bigger and fatter. However I use western rods.
Good stuff. Love that tenkara line sing.
awesome, wish we had that kind of resources here, water was crystal clear. Great fishing day, I would have been out there all day and loved every minute of it. Keep up the great videos.
Can you do a video on different cast techniques and how you would manage different scenarios like tight over grown streams? And go over nymphing.
I mean…he doesn’t really do technique videos, from what I can see.
Great! Enjoyed the change of pace. I think those Idaho lakes are nice and clear and just beautiful. I'll be up there in the Cd'A area in two weeks. Good fishing! Thank you!
Griff
Follow the main channel and only just found this side channel! Thanks for this video you may have finally convinced me to do tenkara!
Love your fishing/catching adventures. The one with the dead bovine in the stream was terrible from a conservation view.
Beautiful lake, and looked like fun. I like to fish some lily pads around here the same way, only it is much warmer here in TX.
That is one clear lake brother.. looks like the small rivers around me. Spring river. I remember we discussed doing that from a kayak. Guess it is sort of doable.. lol..
Nice Lake fishing! Here in Austria, sometimes we fish Tenkara from a Belly Boat, also for pike with streamer.
Best regards from Upper Austria!
Another great fishing descriptor line to add to your vblogs - "The fish is in the Boat"! - Bill
Cool switch up to a kayak mission. Lots of fish! Cheers!

Nice change of pace. I just may have to get a kayak and try that out around my neck of the woods. Once again a cool video!
Oh no you got the yak.....love it..👍..i fish out of mine couple times a year
I enjoyed that. I’ve fished that lake in my float tube. Cool lake. You’re close to a trailhead into an awesome creek
Yep, I fished that creek a handful of videos ago 👍
Yessssss!!!!! Literally was talking yesterday about trying this. Same page! 👊🏼. Great vid!
I was thinking of doing Tenkara from my kayak…now I know I’m going to get into it!
Bonjour Tristan
Super trip ! Beau plan d'eau
Pourrais tu faire une vidéo spécifique sur les kebari que tu utilises et leur montages. La IKK (UKB) et la Black and Gold
Yes, I will make videos about those. Stay tuned. Thanks Eric!
First lake that my wife an I fished tenkara. Love this lake. Must be less mosquitoes out over the water. You got up early!
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
You hooked me on Tenkara and I just set up my rod and line for some lake action. LOL Very happy to see you on the water.
Idaho mountain lake? Better fishing there than here in Michigan. Love your videos!
Yea that's a trout at 4:15 lmao boy he must've jumped 3feet into the air haahaa that was awesome!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!

Try to seek escape rope for paddle. Its just a easy 1,5m rubber rope with easy attach :)!
We would call it a “leash”, and ai wouldn’t paddle without one!

I fish a lake with lily pads like that and it's so annoying when the fish go around and get the line tangled in them.
Are you liking the Nirvana rod more?
At about 4 mins in a trout is swimming right next to your kayak🤣
Oh, this is different (and still nice)
Love the Videos!

What fly do you use?
i liked your use of the lily pads to capture the first fish until you could get to it.
I do it in a canoe and the trick is bring a buddy.
Beautiful
Post enough videos of you fishing in a kayak and a company might be willing to send you a pedal model :)
I would love to fish this lake wats the name
nice rainbow👍
Grayling in lakes??? Try fishing a river that has them in it.
Done: ua-cam.com/video/F5grEO54YHw/v-deo.html
Awsome nice lake Dope video bro nice footage hope you can check out my latest vid aswell
Awesome video once again! Thanks for all this tenkara content! But, what are your views on Tankards & Silverado RVing???
