The thing about “our old Denmark shall indure” i because our entire history has been about wars with Sweden and the german States. Somehow Denmark still exists. We have the water reflection to thank for that. I guess...

Denmark actually has two national anthems.
"Der er et yndigt land (There is a lovely country)" this one is more about the country and the people.
The other one is "Kong Christian Stod Ved Højen Mast (King Christian stood by the lofty mast)" this one is used at royal visits, military event etc. and is more about battle and war than the other one.

@@DragosComedy Yea, this anthem was written after centuries of war and the British had just bombed Copenhagen and destroyed our naval fleet ending our position as a pretty powerful nation.
Nobody wanted a national anthem praising a winning king who lost and put the country in debt. So naturally a song about the landscape and everyday life sounded really good at the time and now we have two anthems.

@@wedgeantilles4712 Yeah we do? Denmark and New Zealand are the only two nations in the world with two national anthems. One for sports events etc. And one for royal and state visits, and the military.

Honestly, the most perfect version of this song is the one we sing at our national football games! It is one of the few times where the pride of out country really shines through :D

Am I the only one who thinks the translation is bad?

There is actually many references in this song. What you read and hear, is not the same that we do. The person could have translated it better, cause its actually more poetic than it seems. :) and very old too, written in the early 1800's

The mounds monolithic are a reference too as far I know to the burial sits of Viking kings and heros/heroines

There is a part of the national anthem that is not widely known and is left out of the anthem " I do not trade Denmark for Russia's winter deserts, for the flower May of the South. We do not know plague and snakes, not the melancholy of the West, not the rage of the East"

    FELICITARI INCA ODATA.

The version you have here is rather strange. Originally the song had 12 stanzas, but it was shortened to 4 when it was made the national anthem. This version has replaced the first half of the fourth stanza with the first half of another stanza. The first half of the fourth stanze goes
    Hail king and native country
    Hail every Dane-citizen
    who works what he can
But normally this is left out. You sing 3½ stanzas. At sport events and similar occations, you sing jus the first stanza and the last half stanza.
I suppose that you could understand "Then they set out to the injury of enemies. Now their bones are resting behind the memorial stones of the mound" to mean that the enemies are resting, but it is far fetched. It is the (Danish) warriors who are resting in the burial mound.
The translation of the last line is just wrong. The beech is refelecting its top in the blue wave, not reflecting in the top of the blue wave.

Please react to Ella with myrkur, it's more nowaday danish language
Love your reaction i laughed so hard, never really thought about how rosy it was, but i think it's because it's from the romance era in art and music.

    There is a lovely land
    with spreading, shady beech-trees,
    Near salty eastern shore: |
Its hills and valleys gently fall,
    its name is ancient Denmark,
    And it's Freya's hall. : |
    There in the ancient days
    sat armored giants rested
    Between their bloody frays: |
Then they went forth the foe to face,
    now found in stone-set barrows,
Their final resting place. : |
This land is still as fair,
the sea is blue around it,
And peace is cherished there: |
Strong men and noble women still
    uphold their country's honor
With faithfulness and skill. : |
    Hail king and fatherland!
    Hail citizens of honor,
who do the best they can: |
    Our ancient Denmark shall remain,
as long as beech tops mirror
in waves of blue their chain!

The main current national anthem is actually not the one it should be. “Der et et yndigt land” won a contest back when it was written. This same contest was held some time in the 2000’s and I’m pretty sure the song “gi’ mig danmark tilbage” won, but they didn’t change it because it was too political or somethings

    • @DragosComedy
      @DragosComedy  3 роки тому +1

interesting why was it too political, im trying to write a joke about renewing the national anthem every few year or so. Let me know what happened pls

And also because it's a moronic suggestion to exchange a beautiful anthem for a rap song that belongs on the trash heap.
