    Composer's Comments:
"This piece is about the fragility of bygone happy memories. It is a typical DnB piece, but interrupted and broken in several ways. The original motif used in the song, Aud Be'af, is from another [now released! • Hundotte - Aud Be'af (... ] song of mine.
Aud Be’af is a phrase from my language Hund'aria. It is a feeling of emptiness, yet the very opposite of emptiness; a state of hypnosis, yet the rush of falling at terminal velocity. Numbing, yet enthralling beyond belief. You feel absolutely nothing perceivable, yet your heart is racing. Your mind is a thick cloud of snow, dizzying, full yet empty. In this Rhapsodic variation on a theme of the original melody, I wanted to capture the similar feeling when memories are lost. The joy that times were once happy, but the emptiness inside knowing that you will never relive them ever again.
Here is the story which the original song Aud Be’af details:
A hunter goes into a snow-capped forest to hunt a wolf.
Chasing his target, he passes through a digital cave where all his memories are played on the crystals in the cave.
He comes out of the other end, into a solitary view over a majestic but empty snowy valley. He is the only living animal he can see for miles.
He looks up, and sees himself, the moon.
It is bright, beautiful, hypnotic, pulsing, mesmerizing, and calls to him.
He follows it to the edge of the cliff, and steps off.
“Aud Be’af” is the name of the feeling you feel as you are falling off the cliff, staring up at the moon, yourself, surrounded by the falling spirals of snowflakes of memories rising up around you, smiling.
And as the hunter hits the bottom, he realises he is the wolf.

    最初音抑えてる感じで不気味さ全開なのに、サビになった途端一気に旋律エモくなるのほんますこ

I'm trying to remember whether any pieces in Deemo before this collection incorporated microtonality... probably not.
Fantastic work - this is a level of composition I can only aspire to. Plus, I learned a bit about Hermode tuning since this is the first time I've heard the term, so that's pretty cool!

    • @Hundotte
      @Hundotte  2 роки тому +10

Well, technically-speaking, you could argue that microtonality (even in Deemo) has always existed whether composers have intentionally controlled it or not: the bells in ALiUS for example are rich in harmonics while missing their fundamental which puts the naturally microtonal upper harmonics into focus even if Feryquitous did not directly write or control them as such. I simply sought for more compositional control over such elements rather than letting them simply be present.
Also, thank you for the kind words! Hermode tuning is a very cool concept, consider playing with it in your work!

@@Hundotte Good point! I must admit, although I love Deemo, I haven't really played it in a while, so later IAP packs like Feryquitous have kind of passed me by, but I listened to ALiUS and yeah, you're totally right. That could also apply to the bells in Fluquor, even if they are definitely less sharp and processed than the ones in ALiUS.
... maybe I should just write music with more bells, eh
