Wow! Corn looks great! 21 ears not bad! That three ears each in your family. Very cool trellis too! Your a true gardener Grey. You can see your passion. Love it…👍
Good evening greyman. I like the way you did your bamboo trellis for pole beans. I made a 3 bamboo pole tee pee type of structure. Tying together the top of each teepee. And then ran longer bamboo poles across the top tying the 4 teepees together. I then planted the beans at the base of each pole. Thus 3 plants climbing up each teepee.. I also planted bush beans in a row next to the pole beans.. I am planting cusha squash for the first time this year. I enjoy watching your videos and love your garden bed setup. Have a great evening!!
That corn looks delicious. You can dry the silks for tea- Used for bladder infections, inflammation of the urinary system, inflammation of the prostate, kidney stones, and bedwetting. It is also used to treat congestive heart failure, diabetes, high blood pressure, fatigue, and high cholesterol levels I really like the trellises. I would like to try making a bamboo arbor. God Bless you and yours!
Hi there. Just stumbled upon your comment. Love any knowledge about herbal and plant remedies. Do you happen to know about any plants that help ease edema and thrombotic (pain) problems or the veins?
Great video! My nextdoor neighbor has a huge area of very tall bamboo growing and he's been cutting it down so I gathered a bunch of it and cut it in 8ft lengths . We made a trellis from some of it for pole beans, sweet peas and snow peas. We're going to make one for our tomatoes also. My pumpkins are growing great! I lost my one and only cucumber though. Something took it, it's completely gone! Oh and we put our bamboo poles together with zip ties. I love your garden videos and your beds are amazing!
This is a great idea! Especially since we have several bamboo poles in storage. We live in Shawnee, Oklahoma where the tornado was Wednesday night and won't have power for several days. Now I have something to keep me busy outside in this now beautiful weather! Well, as soon as I finish canning everything in the freezers, 😅. Thanks Grey!😊 Just wanted to say I'm SO glad we were ready!!!
Hi Lori! I have a tornado-gardening question, if it's okay? How do you and other residents plan for gardens when you get tornadoes? Are tornadoes less likely in summer or do you have to have a steady, partially-underground greenhouse?
@@homesteadgamer1257 There really isn't any way to prepare a garden for tornadoes. Tornadoes can tear a house off the foundation so you really can't prepare a garden for one. But, thankfully, our garden is fine. The only way I can think of is to have a large bunker with a space for a hydroponic garden.
I grow some bamboo in the backyard of the city house...all across the back fence for great privacy. I grow bambusa textilis (dwarf variety) . The culm diameter is around 1.25 average. Dried they make great stakes and climbers for the garden. I would need a bigger type of bamboo for a full trellis, but that has got me thinking....investing in a few types of bamboo just may be advantages from a prepper standpoint. 🤔👍
Agreed Eric, the wife and I were discussing that as well. Once we purchased some land adding a variety of bamboo is very smart from privacy to building materials 😁🤘
I’m so lucky my daughter has bamboo in her back yard. I use it all the time. Really enjoy your videos. My corn is growing, was going to plant some green beans with it. After watching your video I’m going to do pumpkins, or squash.
Wow, I can't believe your corn was ready to harvest already! Maybe I'm so used to living in Northern California. And 21 ears of corn isn't bad at all,and you could easily freeze that to have fresh corn when you need it. Personally, I don't like to cook corn, I have a hard time digesting cooked corn products, so if I get it fresh, I just give it a good rinse or light wash. Fresh corn is actually MUCH better than cooked, I really don't know why people think they need to cook it, though I suspect that idea came from pioneers drying corn to save it for long-term use and needing to soak + cook it to get it tender again. Fresh corn, even the less-sweet variety, is actually pretty sweet. Definitely makes a great juicy summer treat. A bamboo trellis is a great idea! Especially since you can get a good amount at most Dollar stores for only a dollar or two. So many plants can benefit from a trellis, like grapes and passionfruit and honeysuckle, even some roses. And the dollar store bamboo are super easy to break, so if someone doesn't have tools, they really don't need them to build a sturdy support for their plants. And if you break them small enough, you can build a small trellis for indoor plants
Such a great and informative comment, thank you 😁🙏 The corn I grew is a very fast-yielding variety usually within 45-50 days. I'd definitely like to try other varieties. I did learn a lot during this process for the next go around. 😁👍
As are mine lol. Bins can be so handy, but they really do make container-gardening a challenge. What I found worked best (in my old town) was using them as compost bins for a year, then planting, and many seeds that were thrown in the bin for composting ended up growing on their own! Heavy as heck when you need to move them, though 😂
Spraying BT before everything flowers will help with caterpillar and other bad bugs, also a light sprinkling of diatomaceous earth will help kill the bad ground insects, 🥒🍅🥬🌶 doing an awesome job🤙🤙
Agreed my friend, by the time the folks in your neck of the woods get going, I'll probably start preparing for my summer garden. Wishing you an awesome spring garden brother 🤘
I did learn some bugs like certain flowers. If you plant those flowers near your veggie garden they are more likely to to stay away from your veggies. I haven't tried that method yet, but maybe put it into use this year, plus it's a beautiful addition to your garden. PS try neem oil, it's safe on plants and humans ! Thanks for the video, your information was very helpful ! 🙂
I hope once we are in a position and have the land to do what I envision we can do something similar. It's much cheaper to create your own vs tie store-bought stuff, which I'm not a big fan of.
Lay out a trellis of bamboo that's 2' or 3' in width, & 6' tall with cross bars. Vary size as you wish. Zip tie at junctures. Use for cukes, beans, climbing flower vines.
Really, so far I have had pretty good success. Hopefully, I don't jinx myself lol I have high hopes for the beans & pumpkins. But only time will tell. 🤞😊
You can use PVC pipe, wooden dowels, cedar 1x1s, cow panel fencing, or other small gauge metal fencing just a few possible building materials for a trellis

Aww thank you so much, we only lost about 5 ears, Glad I caught the situation early. Definitely learned a lot during that process. Much love 😊💛
I have some bamboo I can make a trellis out of. Thanks Grey.
My pleasure, love when I can share an idea and inspire others 😁👍
Hi Grey! I’m watching..🤗
Thanks Cbass 😁💛
Just got done from Rudy's live stream.
We got stuck on the phone Wednesday for almost an hour. I'm supposed to give him a ring Sunday. Once we get talking lol 😆
I just left Rudy's Live too lol

Now that is a great goal. I would love to have a natural bamboo privacy "fence."

That's great, having access to natural bamboo is wonderful. So many uses for it. 😁👍
Your pole dancing beans are looking pretty good...I'm thinking your damaged beans will do fine as they didn't completely wilt in the Florida sun. 👍
That's what I hoping 🤞😁
Great ideas Grey, your garden is looking great. Appreciate you sir.
Thanks so much Lisa 😁💛

Where'd you get the bamboo poles? They're just right. Good job!

Awesome Party Prepper 🥳 Thank you so much for the information 😁🙏
We have two open air composts. Each one is on a two year cycle. One “cooks” and one we add to every year.
