    I love how you're going flat out on the ring with your fuel warning light on lol

    I drove a 9:43 with a complete stock E30 320i, two persons aboard, an old H&R CupKit and old Kumho T1-R in 195/50 R15.

    Wow, that's a thing of beauty. I'd be too scared to crash my poor 'is.

    318is is awesome :) I'd love to try and extract more speed. I believe 9.00 must be possible (friend of mine already did 9:16). But I do about 6 laps per year...so don't get enough practice :(

  • @BastianKH

    Yeah, like me. I Only have driven 8 rounds in my whole life. But there's so much potential in this car. I know people, who drive about 8:30min. with stock engine, only H&R Gruppe G, Toyo R888 and stripped chassis.

    How can you do heel and toe with this small pedal room in the E30 ?!

    • @PJH1111
      @PJH1111  7 років тому

      It's actually very easy. The pedals are set up perfectly. All you need is some practise :)
      Check out my video using the external microphone, you can really hear me blip the throttle: ua-cam.com/video/ToUyb0xrbeM/v-deo.html

    Great drive mate! Two questions:
    - Do you think the EBC Yellowstuff brake pads are the best option for improved heat/fading resistance and light track use?
    - How did you manage to record this? Recording vids is technically banned on the NB as far as I kow.

    • @PJH1111
      @PJH1111  5 років тому

      This is an old video, check my other vids for faster E30 laps with better audio.
      How is it recorded: a gopro hero 2 attached to my helmet. You can record if the camera is not on the outside of the vehicle (although i'm not sure how it is now, the rules change every few years). Currently I'm still using that Hero 2, but now I also have an external microphone and overlay it all with Harry's laptimer (which I can't get the G-force and speed to sync :D)
      The brakes: I really like the EBC Yellowstuff pads for this car, as it is driven on the street most of the time. For faster cars I would not recommend them as they are not up to high energy tasks. But for road use and the occasional lap on the ring, they are more than good enough for this car. A better option would be Ferodo DS2500 or StopTech Sport brake pads. Don't forget to upgrade or at least change your brake fluid as well as that also fades over time.

      @@PJH1111 Thanks for that quick reply. I also have an E30 318is and it's been on my bucket list for some time now to take it around the Ring. It's daily driven (except for winter) otherwise, so these pads sound good for the job.

    • @PJH1111
      @PJH1111  5 років тому +2

      If it is on your list, please do it. Save up for it, go to the ring and come back happy. But please make sure you come back :)
      Ring checklist:
      - Bravery is silly. You can't impress anyone, you can only make a fool of yourself. Start slow, get to know the track
      - If you go because you want to drive: go on a cold but dry evening session during the week if possible. It won't be very busy and you will have the time to learn and enjoy driving. Saturdays and sundays are good too, but the track is crowded and that brings more stress. The good part of weekends is that you do have the time to go out and visit some of the viewing locations.
      - Check the website in advance to see if it is open: www.nuerburgring.de/en/fans-info/info/opening-times.html (Tourist drives - nordschleife)
      - It's cheaper on weekdays
      - Make sure your car is in good order: oil/coolant/brakes/tires should be checked
      - Do not race, there is no price for winning
      - Watch your mirrors! A 318is is a fast'ish car, but a 911 will surprise you because it will be there suddenly, while it wasn't 2 corners before.
      - Maybe try to meet someone who is already experienced, and have a passengerlap first
      - Enjoy it to the fullest, it really is special to do it
      - Do not time yourself. I only look at my times when I get home. IF you try to beat your own times, you will at some point outrun your own skills
      - Most people don't, but I think helmets are a good idea even though it is a public session
      - Be safe
      - Take time to walk around the parking lot, a lot of cars are heavily modified and there is always something special to see

      @@PJH1111 One more question about the EBC Yellowstuff brake pads. How are they in terms of durability? I've read mixed reviews, with some people saying they were done after 6 months of normal street use, others saying after 1 track day. They cost over 4 times the price of regular good quality ATE pads, which are the most expensive OEM option that I see right now. I would only do like 2-3 track days per year, my E30 is mostly for street use, oo at that price, if I had to change them twice a year, that would not be worth it for me. How long did they last you and in what conditions?

    Aber man muss dir zugute halten, dass viel Verkehr war. Bei mir war's nicht so arg.
    Ich bin nun auch auf 318iS umgestiegen, der wird 2014 zum Einsatz kommen, mal sehen, was dann so geht :)

    where the brake fluid lines also stock, and did you use the standard DOT4 brake fluid or different brake fluid

    • @PJH1111
      @PJH1111  8 років тому

      Brakes are completely stock, except for the pads. Those are EBC Yellowstuff

    • @jerryvisser6323
      @jerryvisser6323 8 років тому

      TrAiLiO1111 so your brake fluid doesnt start boiling or when it gets hot you start to lose brake force

    • @PJH1111
      @PJH1111  8 років тому

      Yes it does, but only slightly. I can feel it starting to go in the downhill sections. But by the time I reach carroussel, the brakes are back up to full force. For 2016 it will be steel brakelines, better fluid (to be decided next week), new pads and maybe new discs as well.

    • @jerryvisser6323
      @jerryvisser6323 8 років тому

      +TrAiLiO1111 well the standard discs on a 318is are ussualy fine as they are, especialy since you dont have increased power from the engine. i also got a 318is and im planning on replacing the brake fluid lines with steel ones and im going with dot5.1 brake fluid. i gues you are like me only using the car every now and then for the track not mainly for the track?

    • @PJH1111
      @PJH1111  8 років тому

      This car sees the nurburgring twice a year, and maybe one trackday. It is mostly used for fast street driving :)

    have you ever tried with a 4.10diff ? how do you think it would compare on the ring?

    • @PJH1111
      @PJH1111  8 років тому +1

      Yes I have. 4.10 and 4.27 is not that big of a difference. The biggest difference for me was the fact that the 4.27 is an LSD, and the 4.10 was not.
      That being said, the 4.27 makes the car feel a little bit more alive comming out of corners, but not by that much. You're not going to win 2 seconds in the 0-100 sprint ;)
      Biggest difference on the ring, was the fact that it reached higher speeds in the uphill section after Breidscheid. Time is won there as you can keep the car in the powerband better, and the section is fairly long.
