Thierry lost so much time on the Virtual Chicane. at 3:05 Obviously tried to stop it before the small drop, but was on top still going 100kph. You can see with naked eye how he keeps on sliding for another 2seconds trying to drop those last 40kph. It is like 0.5G of braking force, while on the first braking part he gets triple that, about 1.5G, from what I see.
@@DriftJunkie He was slower on other parts of the stage as well he made mistakes with his gear selection on a few corners its obvious if you observe that he lost time in these sections as well
These days there is just two options; virtual chicane, or hay bales... As seen, hay bales will be broke and/or moved (crash, boom, bang) so what's next idea to get average speed lower? (if this kind of stages will be driven)
Finally a full-fledged unboard where I can see the work with gears and the speed of the car. Thank you very much that this is available in Finland. Thank you and of course the pilot BRAVO. LIKE!

Hope so too! Kalle made history with his second run on this stage. Second run broke the averege speed record for any stage in the world. Previous record was 132,5 km/h made by Kris Meeke at Ounipohja and the new record from Kalle is 136,1 km/h (and with the virtual chicane). Ps. I was wrong - it was Ouninpohja record for averege speed.
This was amazing 😍 I had super limited time this time in the rally. Arrived at 7 to Tampere and missed the first run of it. Day was otherwise too much spread out so decided to focus on the 2nd run of Ouninpohja. Arrived just in time to triple jump downhill and got fantastic photos and finally captured some action live. 😍 This one stage was all I could watch this time but next year.. You start doing silly things on open roads in Belgium and end up doing 130+ kph AVERAGE speed in a Finnish forest. Awesome career Thierry, what a talent!
You know what, despite the technology and gps and virtual chicanes etc, it still relies on one human driver and a co driver with very analogue hand written pace notes.
@@classic7376 Slowing cars down to not get dangerously fast in certain area. Instead of putting physical chicane FIA always gives confusion, annoyance and artificial complexity. Pretty much worthless idea.
Ironically, I hoped yesterday that a full onboard of Ouninpohja would come in either Neuville's or Fourmaux's inside cam view, given both have this same view for this rally that allows for full-viewing of selected gear. Laukaa, Saarikas, & Sahloinen-Moksi (some time afterwards), would also be good, & Västilä is also enjoyable, but Ouninpohja as a minimum is okay. One can try & calculate or imagine how much faster the times & average speeds with these current-generation cars would be without the slowing-down methods, both virtual & physical. I reckon at least 10 km/h higher average & or 10-20 seconds faster times. Unfortunately, these things are unavoidable for such fast-paced special stages as long as the cars aren't getting any slower. I like how the warning method on the middle display works, with a yellow warning text coming once past the small-ish pre-warning yellow signs at 3:02 & once within the marked zone, a round warning sign with white-background text above arrives & stays until the green. The latter physical slowing-down method location on the fastest section is coincidently where the 2005-06 Ouninpohja East variation begins.
I can remember watching in-car from "club" level Finnish guys of the stature of well known BMW drivers like Ilmo Lario doing 240 kph or so on this stage. The gearing in the BMWs gives them a much higher top speed.
look how far back they sit in the car, this is something most sim racers gets wrong when they put the seat/viewing cam almost on top of the dash, you will not feel the realistic pivot point that way.
What's the problem with that ? Thierry Neuville is the championship leader and he finished second of this rally. Plus this is definitely not the rally where he feels the more comfortable. And it is way more spectacular to watch him fight against his unbalanced car than Kalle , who where born on these roads and had a perfectly functionning car.
Why is it that onboard cameras especially official ones have the almos the same quality as in early 2000´s? does the speed ruin the picture? I was really looking foward for this, but the quality takes lot of speed away...
Just an educated guess, the red means hybrid system is regeneraring, blue means it's available to use, and amount of white on top tells how much hybrid boost is left. 5-speed mechanical gearbox has been used at least since Rally1 cars era began in 2022. Rally2 cars have 5-speed transmission as well.
Need Rovanperä onboard for his 2nd run. He was the fastest. And Pajari ss9. First stage win. edit: posting this is like F1 posting the 5th fastest time in qualifying instead of the pole lap.
Here the camera conveys the feeling of speed better, and 11 seconds to 14.5 minutes is a small difference. I watched the rally all day today and wanted to see exactly Neuville.
@@daddyandy9591 To be fair, I don't mind seeing Neuville onboard. Frankly, the more onboards the better. However I do think the fastest time should always take priority no matter who makes it or where. Thierry did a great stage but it was not the fastest and even if he was slower by 0.1 sec, still the fastest time should take priority. On the F1 comparison again; I'm sure the entire top 10 will be hard to differentiate with sight alone. Also arguably there are drivers driving worse cars, sometimes performing better than the people in top cars, yet it's always the top time which is highlighted first.
@@daddyandy9591 No, the dashcam conveys the feeling of speed way better. This stage is of extremely high speed and it barely looks like it on this video. This camera on Tänak's car at Poland was showing the speed much better. On the other hand, Neuville is clearly hesitating in many places here, and even shaving off 0.1s takes some cornering techniques that are visually clearly more enjoyable to watch - basically way more sideways and aggressive, as the driver pushes the car to the very last moment and keeps that extra little bit of momentum with the clearly bigger sideways angle. It's 0.1s + 0.1s + 0.1s + 0.1s, we are already quite a few corners in and that accounts for just 0.4s, but we have already gained a lot in spectacle.
That’s the hybrid When it’s fully lit up that’s when the boost is available Not that it really matters here because there isn’t really enough heavy braking zones for it to regenerate properly
