  • China in 2017 laid out an ambitious plan to turn the Greater Bay Area into a high-tech powerhouse, aiming to rival Silicon Valley and Tokyo Bay. With 2035 set as the target, is the region on track to meet those goals, or are there hurdles slowing progress? CNA's Deborah Wong and Professor Heiwai Tang, the director of Asia Global Institute, discuss the prospects and challenges of the Greater Bay Area amid growing geopolitical rivalry in the region.

      That's kinda silly.
Shanghai is certainly doing everything it can to cmpete for Hong Kong's financial services industries, but this massive development is going to have Hong Kong at its traffic, if not its geometrical or geographic, centre. It's going to prosper for centuries no matter what Shanghai does to try to horn in on it.
