As a teenager, I followed your music, dearest John Michael Talbot, and I had no clue that you'd become orthodox. My sister had sent me a text this morning with a link to you playing the guitar and singing. Simply blew me away. Thank you for your example. I need some of what you've got, and I'll pray The Jesus Prayer more often.
You may enjoy some of the videos by John Butler under the spiritual unfoldment channel out of Bakewell, England. He has several really good videos on praying the Jesus prayer; he has been meditating twice a day for 60 years using that prayer. A blessed Easter to you.
In my 20's I worked at The Bible House Gift shop in Santa Barbara and sold your music. We would play it in the store as it was so beautiful and calming! It wasn't until I was in my 50's and had become Catholic that I got to hear you in concert at my parish - Old Mission Santa Ynez! What a great night that was! I need your music more than ever now that I'm in my 60's and a widow. God bless you and your ministry!
Father John, I'm Greek Orthodox and l just want to say how much l respect and cherish you. You are such a humble soul and it shows in your teachings; for there is no judgement or condemnation in anything you say Father, you are the only Catholic on UA-cam that unites and integrates in such a way that is so heartfelt and so embracing. It's obvious that you hear and listen and follow the words that the resurrected one spoke. God love you Father. you......
I remember you from the 70’s and 80’s....loved your peaceful music so much. Wish you would come out with your “greatest hits” video. Thanks and God bless you !
I'm an Orthodox Christian who absolutely loves listening to you. You truly reflect all the ideals of our lord Jesus Christ in a such a united and congenial manner without any polarization and division. There is no judgement or condemnation in you lectures, quite the contrary there is such a calm and gentle approach to your descriptions the gospels which l truly enjoy. I also very much enjoy your television as well in addition to your singing. I just want to say thank you for further enhancing my understanding of Jesus Christ.
The living church and body of Christ live in all who believe in him. There is so much to learn on our journey's to Christ and I thank dear Brother Talbot for this beautiful book and helping enrich my journey with some of the wisdom of our forefathers. I am surprised to see some of the critical comments after dwelling the past week on the Eight Thoughts. All glory to God and may he have mercy on us sinners.
Thank you for providing this site. It appears at least in my area that we are short on people who are good at dialoguing our faith. My old diocese existed between Notre Dame and Quigley Seminary and I had been exposed to many people with much to share spiritually. This new Diocese seems to frown on bringing in those who could share the spirit and I am feeling a bit smothered. So this is truly a breath of fresh air. Thank you. Peace Midget
Thank you John Michael! This is a great review of the teaching you did in November 2010 at a church in Orchard Park, NY. Love, your United Methodist (non-catholic) sister in Christ, Jackie Scott
Thank you father. I really like the lesson and will pray every day. Please father pray for me as I am sinner and i do have needs for me and family. Pray for my wife, children family too. May God bless you and give you long life, in Jesus name amen!!!!
yilema senaye We all know that Jesus was circumcised and when that happened, he cried out: "Holy God in Heaven, OUCH". He never used toilet paper so he ruined lots of Savior costumes plus had more than enough smegma as dessert to feed his boys. Not sure what the problem is here! I do have you all on my prayer list. AMEN
Always appreciated your teaching and sharing your love of Christ. You allowed me to know and love Jesus n so many levels praise God for you in my life 🙏 through the love of Jesus Christ. ❤️
God bless John Michael Talbot. If only the sexual revolution never happened, if the youth seeking depth and meaning in western society had found it in Christian mysticism instead of psychedelics and hedonism. John Michael Talbot is the archetype for what hippies should have been 😭 Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Amen and amen Lord Jesus Christ Son of God have mercy on me a sinner and grant me the grace of your holy cross and resurrection for you have redeem the world and holy Mary Theotokos intercede for us with your most Holy Son Jesus Christ amen
Two lungs act in union but the RC and Orthodox are not in communion and differ quite a bit when you get down to their most underlying presuppositions. Their is one lung (one Apostolic line) and it belongs to the East.
my name is : s ravi kumar. I am from India. I completed my diploma mechanical engineering. i searching for job. I have no job. Please pray for me. Please help me. Please pray for me Amen

That is so beautiful and easy to recite and remember. Please tell me the names of your holy books, especially of the Bible. I was raised Roman Catholic but I am always opened to learning more.
John, really appreciate your spirit (letting the Spirit of God flow through you)...I have one question on this Jesus prayer...When you suggest that we say Have mercy on me a sinner...Are we not in some way negating the new nature that Jesus has given us (at our new birth)...I am not suggesting that we never sin or don't need repentance, I just think that their is a difference between what you are by nature (a sinner before accepting Christ) and a Saint (after accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour
Simple and Beautiful. Thank you father! Can I ask you, is it important whether we vocalize the word with our tounge or speak them internally? Peace be with you
Internally. In between repetitions you rest in the silent space between thoughts and simply take the attitude of watching. When the mind moves by itself again, that is when thinking starts again, as soon as you see you've started thinking, repeat the prayer, then sit in silence again. This is the practice and the practice is all about being present in the silence, eyes opened or closed, because the still, silent ocean of being is what you are. Thoughts, feelings, beliefs, story's about you and your life are all just movements of the mind. What you are is the silence, the purpose of the practice is to recognize that and choose for it through all the varied experiences of life. This is where the peace which passes all understanding is to be found
@@tonyrenshaw8328 thanks for a well put together answer. Can I ask where/how you learnt this? Also, I’ve heard that hesychasm shouldn’t be practiced unless it is done under the supervision and blessing of a spiritual father. What’s you opinion on that?
Hey! I didn't know that I was praying that prayer in my own every time the priest raises the host or challis after consecration. On the rationalizing sin stuff, sitting alone with Jesus, literally spiritually naked, I understand that he knows every sin I've committed. So, I just give up, admit I'm a total mess and guess what? He forgives me and that helps me to let go of the biggest problem I have, letting go of grudges.
In regards to the first part of this prayer, How does one breathe in and speak at the same time??? Is it natural to most people and I just can't do it? Please I want to know.
Are you inhaling while speaking the first part and exhaling om the second one? Or inhaling then speaking speaking then exhaling? Sorry for the dumb question 😅
Just listened to another Priest who said that I should not tie the my breathing to the praying of the Jesus prayer and not to recite it more than ten minutes.
Please provide the name of the priest who said this. I’d like to hear what he had to say even further. I think I understand his perspective. Thank you.
Rome is the only patriarchy. The Orthodox should come back and bring their mysticism to us in the West and become in full comunion with and under the Catholic Church.
is it possible for a catholic to pray the jesus prayer,,,cose a llot of orthodox theologians are not favorable,,,only kallistos ware seem to be open....
The Jesus prayer has nothing to do with breathing. The Jesus prayer comes from the heart. You say it from you heart after many years of practice and contemplation. It's not learned instantly . Please leave us , the Orthodox alone , and stop teaching people about what you don't know.
Please be kind as thats what will help convince others re Orthodox .... really Richard wheres the love ? secondly the Philokalia ( definately Orthodox !!! ) teaches , refers many times to using breath. Best wishes Brother and you might consider reading it ( Philokalia ) love peter
John Michael Talbott seems to be a nice person who tries to love God and preach to the best of his ability. That being said, he can mislead orthodox or catechumens, by appearing as an Orthodox monastic. He is not, he is a CATHOLIC preacher, and, like most of his church, nowadays they adopt Orthodox practices that that very church rejected for centuries, in order to re-gain some appeal among lapsed catholics and people from other sects, given the disastrous consequences that Vatican 2 had in that organization. I see that attempt as disingenuous, not because it's done with bad intention, but because it takes some parts of Orthodox practice, while rejecting the dogma and beliefs associated with the Orthodox Faith.
Dear John Michael. It's not about externals (those being important), but about True Faith and dogma. Growing a beard is easy but not everybody, unfortunately, shares the Faith associated with those externals.
As a Roman I'll have to disagree. Eastern Rite Catholicism exists not because the Church adopted Orthodox practices, but because Orthodox Bishops converted to Catholicism and brought the eastern liturgy with them
Although I admire JM Talbot's music and recognise his great devotion to Christ, I must take issue with his claim that the orthodox Church is like a second lung to that of Rome. The Church is not divided, there is only one truth. The Roman Patriarchate has separated itself from the others and is no longer in communion with the Church. This is a great tragedy but cannot be brushed over with sweet words. Communion is based on a shared faith, the truth is objective and not subject to human reinterpretation. Sadly, with genuine sorrow, we must acknowledge that with the introduction of the Filiogue, papal claims to authority over other bishops and his role as "vicar of Christ" Romeis is a schismatic organisation that must repent of its heresy and return to the Church. I write this not to cause offence or start an argument, only to warn those who watch this video that what is being said is not the teaching of the Church and does not reflect Orthodox theology. God bless you.
St. Paul likens the Church to the body of Christ. He speaks of hands and so on. It is therefore, biblical to use similar language in describing the East and West of the Church.
I am Protestant and find this method of prayer very helpful.
Jesus Christ is The King ❤
Thanks for reminding us that the Catholic faith has a practice of meditation!
Our time and world needs a true Christians like JMTalbot more than ever!

Hi thanks for you video can we find breathing techniques in the Old Testament?

The Original Prayer, did not have the word "sinner" in it. It was added much later. Check it out.

If we say we have no sin, the truth is not in us. ( St. John) We all sin. Jesus forgives us.

Yu don't. Just form the words, or pray interiorly.
Mentally. It's a meditation.
Place your hands on your tummy and breath in to say "Lord Jesus Christ and then breath out hands on tummy with "Have Mercy on me".
I find it impossible to say Lord Jesus Christ Son of God while breathing in. Am I missing something?
So are you supposed to recite the prayer in you mind rather than out loud? Because I can't see how you can speak while inhaling.
Are you inhaling while speaking the first part and exhaling om the second one? Or inhaling then speaking speaking then exhaling? Sorry for the dumb question 😅
John, are you actually breathing in as you speak first half of Jesus prayer? If so, I have a hard time doing that.
You do not have to pray it out loud. Just form the words as you breathe, or pray interiorly.
