Hi I have Q for you to work in kindergarten in China .. do you have to stay whole time with them ?? Even though u don’t teach them just keep watch them eat and sleep ? And give them class for 30 min and stay whole day while y don’t even understand Chinese ?? It’s new for me coz I use to do it training center not kindergarten and I get treat like I’m Chinese teacher !!!

each school is different. At CWIK yes the teachers do need to stay with them for the whole day. The destinated english class is for only 30 mins. But during other classes the teacher can still talk, assist and interact with the kids. Although we want our english teachers to speak as much as possible, honestly our top priority is safety, for that reason we need all teachers present all the time. i encourage all of our teachers to talk to the kids as much as possible outside of the english class. you actually teach the kids more outside of english time than you do inside of english time.

Sometimes the smaller the class the harder it is to keep them focused...quite ironic

Great teaching. Any tips for getting attention when the class gets too over excited?

thanks. unfortunately theres not real answer for that, every teacher struggles with that at some point. sometimes you need to sacrifice a little control for higher value lessons. I would suggest to have some sort of reward/class management system. No teacher can do it perfectly, but if you make it interesting and fun for the students it can be a great management tool.

A bell works lol. Maybe a song you could chant every time they get loud. At my school we teachers say: “1,2,3 eyes on me!” Students yell back: 1, 2 eyes on you!” and then they get quiet to hear instructions. Or you could try some clapping beats

They seem to understand everything you’re saying. How long did it take to get them there?

this class had english lessons for 2 years with a previous teacher before i had the pleasure of teaching them. honeslty it doesnt take any group of kids a long time as long as you are consistent with the incidental language you use and the lesson format. all i do is repeat the same things for a few weeks and then the kids learn to understand. so you can do this with class instructions, or words of praise or basic conversation. once they have mastered your targets, change things up again. but i dont think its best to change too often. give things a while before you change. let them get used to everything. this is my general strategy with any class and i will only change things according to the age/level of the students.
