It is rather incredible how state governments do not realize the potential and importance of a well designed flag that they're citizens would be honored and excited to own and display. You gave this one a well deserved flogging. Really enjoyed the video and sound drops! Loved the seal amendment comparison (did it really matter). Thank you for your bravery to dive in and dissect even the worst of flags.

Glad you enjoyed it. I guess I have to cover all manner of flags, can’t always just do the good ones. And I agree, these state flags could be so much more representative with a far more enticing design which the locals would love to have flying outside their house, used by sports teams, on a mug…
Thanks for your feedback too, it’s good to know how these experiments work out for the viewer.

Love the editing on this one! By the way, growing up in the American South, as I did, I was under the impression that the red saltire was an attempt to smuggle in a reference to the Confederate battle flag design without being too obvious. If this is true, that might be why it has no official meaning (as the real meaning is meant to be hidden). I have definitely heard that Alabama's flag is meant to be a nod to the Confederacy as well. And to be honest, most state flags have some Confederate heritage, as there were no state flags at all (as far as I know) before the civil war. Some states took the Bonnie Blue flag and replaced the star with their state seal - inventing the SOB style! Just for the record - I'm definitely against any reference to the Confederacy in any flag.

Agreed, it’s definitely hard to find actual details about the Confederate link, I guess I should have mentioned that and stated the official view is as I stated.
Thanks for the feedback regarding editing.

@@FlagsinFocus It's not a criticism - I'm just reporting what might be an urban legend. 😂 I've never actually seen anyone address the Confederate heritage of state flags in general. I think it's something the American vexilogical community would rather ignore. Still, it could be a powerful arguement against the SOB design!

@@FredoRockwell didn’t take it as criticism at all :-)
You’re right about the wider topic, it was addressed in a podcast I was in earlier this year regarding taboo flags. Joe Billips did a great job covering the Confederacy flags. I’ll post the link here.
