One thing that drives me insane is that I can't seem to hammer down ANYTHING about my art: the styles, the themes, NOT A SINGLE THING *AT ALL*. Everything just keeps shifting, and each piece comes off completely different from the others. Is this a sort of voice or a sign I haven't found one yet?
You are not alone here! It shows that you are open to exploring other things. Take a look at your latest pieces and find somethings they have in common. This could be the color pallet you choose, the subject, or the use of brush strokes. Your last piece holds the answers to your next piece! Another good thing to point out is embracing that your pieces are completely different each time. Use that towards your advantage. Try out a mix media style or adding collage elements in there!
It seems like the difference between truly creative people and the general population is embracing our vulnerabilities, not as weakness but as resourcefulness and resilliance. That embrace is our voice. It looks like imperfection, and failure at times. It is not a destination, it is the vehicle on the journey of creativity.
I love your perspective as an artist and creator. It’s so important to have more voices that are in the middle of their learning process and journey as an artist, rather than already being more established or experienced. It makes your lessons feel easier to achieve because you yourself are still a learner too. Thanks so much for making this content, I’m sooo happy you showed up in my feed! Huge inspiration. ❤️
great video :) I saw a short recently about 'artist voice' and wanted to do some research into it, as a concept distinctive from 'artist style'. Thanks for the perspectives.
This past year I went to several classes from a certified Bob Ross teacher ( I didn’t know there was such a thing). The instructor is a young woman..classes 3 hours long..I took about 6 classes. It was so much fun…everyone followed her instructions and everyone’s painting came out a bit different. You learns tons of techniques and can still make your own style. I really enjoy your videos!
This is very helpful for a new self-discovering painter in my senior years. I'm especially inspired by finding my artist voice! You gave excellent tips on each suggestions giving your own experience and I were encouraging.
I really love the way you explain this. Finding our voices as artists is so important and this really helped me understand *why* it’s important. I used to just make art to make art, and wasn’t sure why people didn’t take me seriously or buy my art. But I have to first take myself seriously as an artist, have a vision and a clear understanding of why I make art. Only then that will translate into my art, and help my art be more cohesive and align with my values as an artist. Love love this and will be returning to it for inspiration! Thank u! :)
Hello there, that's a great video. Basically findind ou artistic voice, is finding our "why". But what if, we draw / paint just for fun ? Because it's pretty, or beautiful, or because it makes us feel good ? I love to draw woman from fashion magazine. I was fashion designer for 10 years and I've stopped for about another decade. Now I'm going back to my roots which are : fashion illustration. But if I digg, I don't have any "propper why". I just do that because I love it. And as far as I can remember, I've always done that. But I can not find a strong "why", a strong "artistic voice" behind that. What do U think ? :)

Still feel a bit confused. Can you give an example of what your artist voice is? Thank you.
