*I was 43 miles from landfall in Pinellas and rode out 90+ mph winds because by the time I was done boarding up my windows and prepping my house, it was too late to safely evacuate. I've lived here 37 years and been thru hurricanes, but Milton was really f*cking scary. Now I'm without power, which i need to run my self-employed pottery business and am without income. Compared to my neighbors, I was very lucky to only lose my fence!! I have no idea how I'm going to fix it. I also spent about $500 on plywood to board up my house and another $150 stocking up on non-perishables. I'm going to be relying on the $750 emergency FEMA relief to pay my f*cking bills, which I'm already behind on due to Helene 2 weeks ago. And now there's possibly another tropical system forming.*

Biden did approve additional funds
Congress did not, though. Johnson refused to call the House back early, saying it was too soon to approve additional funds. I’m not sure Biden can override that.

I'm in Central Florida and I think DeSantis needs to be investigated. A lot of the damage was along high dollar properties who can afford to rebuild. Helene and Milton hit a lot of the same areas and a lot of people died.

FEMA isn't just rapid response to disasters. A large percentage of FEMA employees are trained professionals and they depend upon a regular paycheck, just like everyone else. Disasters happen year round after all. FEMA needs to have a funding cushion ahead of unknown needs. And Mike Johnson has sure as heck proven the Republicans are incapable of putting peoples' needs first in a timely fashion.

Absolutely nothing!
Public service versus personal gain, just wow and sad. People are gravitating to political positions for benefits and fame, not to help their jurisdictions. Egos. Founding fathers did not forsee this and why the Constitution needs to be a fluid document, not frozen in the late 1700s. Don't expect anything to change in my lifetime. Hope for future generations.

Here’s the thing…FEMA doesn’t just cover Florida. It covers ALL natural disasters. I’m thinking of the last hurricane, Helene, that affected GA, NC,, TN, SC and FL. Past hurricanes that hit LA, Mississippi, Alabama. Or how about the wildfires in your state of California along with Oregon, Washington State, Idaho and Colorado. Flooding in the Midwest. FEMA helps with natural disasters in all states. It may not be your state this time but what about next time.

We were fortunate. There were a few larger broken branches around our complex, and two buildings lost vinyl sheeting on the sides of their roofs. We also lost power, from around 11 pm the day of landfall, until 4 pm the following day. I tried to help out where I could with the cleanup, assisting in the removal of branches and other debris in a nearby community of lakeside cottages. As for our state's dear governor...there's a reason, why I've heard quite a few people refer to him as "Ron Death Sentence". Just saying. (10/12/2024)
