Clark Johnson (director of this movie) plays a cameo as "Deke's Handsome Partner" seen here on 0:16. He also play a small role as rookie LAPD officer during his youth in the hood classics, Colors (1987).
Also shown in the clip is Reed Diamond cameoing Officer David Burress (the vegetarian cop on 3:15). A year before this movie, Diamond and Johnson worked together on the pilot episode of The Shield (2002), another popular media that portrays LAPD.

Incredible how the one cop has no civilian complains because he is courtesous and doesn't want to be dirty and the movie tries to portary him negatively.
well you do need a team player sometimes...
Negatively as in he's not a fit for a SWAT team that more often then not doesn't have the option to ask people politely to lay down their weapons and even if they did are more likely to be shot for it.
Every day courtesy has it's place in routine every day policing, not in SWAT.

- sigh - No, David isnt seen as a "bad cop" or "weak". He is seen as not S.W.A.T material since being in a group that will deal with the worst of the worst that exercise extreme violence and aggression, you have to be able to play on their level.
He is a great neighbourhood cop that will earn the respect of the community around him but he is not S.W.A.T material.
