Check out Lima, Peru if you want to see how a grided mixed used approach to urban planning wiped out homelessness.

I suspected they weren't genuine when they mentioned whole foods, mixed use should be incentivising community owned business not so soulless franchises.

@@ANTSEMUT1 Whole Foods is a grocery chain, created by some hippies in Austin, Texas who had a desire to sell organics. Obviously the company grew from one tiny store to what it is today. It's now owned by Amazon, but it started out incredibly small. It's the kind of success story that can only happen in the United States. It's NOT a franchise.
As for franchises, they are the best way to go into business for yourself. If you buy into a successful, well established and run franchise you are buying a system. A well polished business plan and support of seasoned industry veterans. For most people looking to own their own business, it's a no brainer.
Avalon is a shopping center, an outdoor mall, that happens to have apartments, condos, and townhomes on the property. It's for people who want a somewhat urban lifestyle without the high crime, congestion, and everything else bad about actually living in an urban environment!
They managed to fit all of this on less than 100 acres, meaning... for residents... it's completely walkable!

"Rich White folks" you sound both racist and snobbish.

@@garyjackson7040 i know, that's what i meant by soulless franchise. Also even if the that particular franchise outlet is locally owned they still have to mostly abide by their corporate overlords.

@@garyjackson7040 poor white people exist and who definitely can't afford either the food in the outlet "Whole Foods" or just whole foods
