RIP Tommy Keene...I had the pleasure of playing with him WAYY back when he played drums...We practiced in his parents house....He was awesome then, and stayed that way....RIP Tommy
I love the shout-outs to Split Enz and the Bee Gees here. Tommy was a treasure. I saw him several times in Minneapolis and Milwaukee. I especially loved his show in little old Port Washington, Wisconsin. I miss him so much; I'm glad he left us as much music as he did.
Made a trip up to DC this weekend and stopped by Som for the first time because of this video. Flipping through the same bin Tommy was flipping through and I actually found Places That Are Gone. Had to take it home, of course. Thanks for the video.
Tommy made it easy to love Pop music again during a decade of boorish Aqua Net and flannel. Had a good friend who once did FOH for him. Saw him at Night Stage in Cambridge MA and got to hang after the show. Nice guy and very humble.
Tommy Keene is thee most overlooked American rock & roll songwriter who most of the world missed because of bad taste and shitty record company ececs. He joined Marshall Crenshaw and Paul Westerberg in this sad reality. Rest in peace, TK. A Chicago fan forever!
I had the Places That Are Gone EP and loaned it to a friend back in the late 80's. I moved away shortly thereafter and forgot to get it back. When it was released on The Real Underground CD, I never bothered to follow up. Seeing that album cover brings back memories. Places that are gone for sure.
The last few records Tommy made are superb (imo his best), huge hooks and stellar guitar-playing throughout. The man is a genius! Also check out Keene Brothers, his record with Robert Pollard (GBV), not a single bad song on it.

Could watch him shop all night. Beloved Tommy.
I had multiple chances to see him, but never did. Usually got drunk and said "Next time." Then there was no more next time. Talk about regrets....
Please...don't go out that door.
You made me cry....Thanks. RIP Tommy Keene.
