I actually didn't think the price was too OTT for a premium product (the Climb on the other hand, I do not see what all the fuss is about!). What I haven't seen anywhere though is how much air it actually blows. Most high power fans specify cubic metres/feet per minute/hour but I have been unable to find out what the headwind is rated at. Any way you can find that out Simon?
Nobody shelling out for a Kickr or a Kickr climb will balk at the price of an intelligent fan that can interact with your Tickr HRM or your speed reading. Perhaps you can get by with one fan as opposed to two non cycling fans that are used in a lot of serious set ups. I would not apologize for the price.
Wahoo Headwind has a big problem: it's very noisy! It arrived today and I asked for a refund tonight. I find it really unacceptable that a fan costing € 229.99 makes such a loud noise.
Design, engineering, radio, certs all just nonsense re. immovable/hard drivers on price. From Chip's comments the only thing which stands out to my mind is the cost of the motor (eg. a Vitamix Pro 300 blender has a 2.2 HP rating for it's power plant, and it's not cheap), so maybe there's something to the cost of high-end compact motors? Perception remains - it's a fan, and I'd say Chip hasn't spoken with enough detail or clarity to take people past the sticker shock.
I did a quick search on Grainger website for 3phase 1 HP motors and they cost from 150-245.00 US dollars. That's for a general purpose motor. I have no idea what kind of motor is in the head wind, but if we assume the motor unit costs them around 200.00 the price of head wind seems reasonable. www.grainger.com/product/DAYTON-1-HP-General-Purpose-Motor-4THX5
Niche products, with very specific uses... simply don't sell in high quantities; and thus are expensive. Same goes for the desk they made, sells for the same price as the fan. Custom built for a very specific purpose and will have a low volume of sale due to how niche it is = high price.
it has a one hp motor in it!!? that explains it all right there. its a premium product at a premium price people. buy it if you want it, buy something else if you dont.
Show me another fan that had bluetooth connectivity with your cycling app, has a 1 HP motor, can adjust to your speed or HR?
Interesting he says it’s a one horsepower motor , which google says is 735 watts and Shane Miller,s test said it used 175 watts. Surely some mistake?

It's one of a kind. There is nothing other like it. Hence the price.

Stupid price for a fan. I really want one though...
Wahoo charge 55 quid for what is basically a fan belt (for the Wahoo Kickr). That's all you need to know...
i dont believe him
