- Arsenal won the Community Shield after beating Liverpool 5-4 on penalties. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had opened the scoring for the FA Cup winners with a fantastic goal, but Takumi Minamino's leveller in the second half took the game to a penalty shoot-out.

Both Luis Suarez and mo Salah broke the single season goal scoring record at 32 (Suarez) and 33 (Salah) respectively Salah had 45 goals in all competitions that season and has alrdy had 3 golden boots to abumyang 1.
