***** About Venison for Dinner *****
Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our five kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000 miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. I’m so glad you’re here, I hope you stick around!
We put out a new video every Wednesday morning! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

Mack at 2am is hilarious, Mabel did amazing! What a good girl! I can't wait for spring when my goats give birth again.
Yes Mabel is an excellent first
Time momma!
Thanks
Wow! Thanks Kate! This video was not only informative but so enjoyable!!! Congratulations on your heifers...they are beautiful!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Since this was Mable's first calf I assumed you'd want to be milking her with the calves on Jessa so that Mable is trained to milk. Why did you do it the other way round?
1- Mabels teats are too short to hand milk, Jessa we can hand milk. 2- Jessa produces enough for 2-3 calves, Mabel we knew would produce about perfect for 2 calves. 3- Deferring having to train Mabel for now. its a busy season. We milked her for 5 days and she did great, so I think she will be fine in april when calves are weaned.
Awe beautiful calfs. So wild theu both had heifers. Mable is a fantastic mom for her first time. Thanks for sharing with us. So excited to watch them grow.. do you plan on keeping the baby heifers..
Thank you! I’m thinking we will wait to see how they fill out etc before we know if we are keeping them both.
Mack, you are so amazing and responsible! Great job sharing with us!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🌟
Such a beautiful and interesting video! How the children have grown!
Mamma cows did amazing birthing on their own. Mabel has turned into supermom with both calves nursing.
Totally agree!
Love animals births
They are gorgeous calves.
Haha my name is Lacey🥰🥰🥰
Yay! Fresh milk
This is so darn precious! ❤
Loved this video!!!! ❤❤❤❤ happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you! You too!
Aww! I love it! Are you milking Maybell at all, or are the babies taking care of it? Do you intend to milk her in the future? I'd love to know how her milk flavor and cream content differs from Jessa....
Oooh I hadn’t thought of the taste difference. Great question!
We will eventually milk Mabel. For now it’s just the calves on her. It will be interesting to compare the milk for sure.
🐄 🫶🏻
💚 So exciting to see the 2 new, nearly identical, heifer calves..they are beautiful! Thanks for all the footage and information, Kate and Mac! 💚
Our pleasure!
I continue to notice exceptionalism from each of your kiddos, this time I'm impressed with Mac and his intuition regarding calving. You're a great parent!
Wow, thank you for those kind words❤️
Congratulations on two beautiful calves
Thank you..we are very pleased.
Wet is the brand name of that calcium shot u give her... ... does it work really good for them...
I dont know the brand, it’s called theracalcium, we get it from our vet, and the local jersey farm swears on it. Sorry for the massive delay in replying!
Congratulations on 2 beautiful heifers.
Thank you 😊
"Congratulations 🐮🐮" So exciting! Calves are beautiful!
Thank you!!
Mac’s commentary is the best! Love the footage of the new calves. 😊
Thank you. I love how he speaks about what's going on and the fact he's very in tune with the cow and her calf.
“I’m not naming it Brownie Freya. Because I said so” 🙌🏼😆🙌🏼😆
I know right!? Hahaha
What milk machine do you use? Congrats on calves❤
Thanks! Our milking machine is cobbled together with a De leval bucket and a Nupulse claw.
Calves on 1 momma;wow! How many days did you wait before giving Mabel both calves? This is an amazing way to do this? Also, I look forward to the next video to find out what’s going on with the milking machine. I’m soooo flirting with beginning to milking my cow. At this point, I’m only milking goats. Great video,
Thanks! And so glad Mac got up and videos it.
Yes we were pretty happy Mac got up too!! We waited 5 days before putting both calves on Mabel.
Congrats on your beautiful new baby calves. OMG the dairy life is not for me.But I see it’s so in harmony with your lives! Heifers seem auspicious. I know the goat people are always thrilled with girls. I hope any potential loss in meat is made up with deer, bears, etc.
Thank you so much!!
This is so exiting:) Thank you for sharing this! Congratulations!
You are so welcome!
You had me! I thought somebody had twins!
Hahahaha 🫣
You seem to have a quite a bit of a knowledge about cows that’s really a good thing because it sounds like so many things can go wrong with a cow .How come you’re suspecting a mild shock for Jess but not for the other cow that stands there just fine. Do you think it’s just because the other cow is more used to being milked so she ignores it?
I filmed the very first time milking Jessa after calving, which is why I expected her to be startled. Where is the other cow,We had already been milking for a few days when I videoed it did not go great to start.
Marius is a good man. Mac is a good young man.
Absolutely agree with you!
I would not bother with dairy cows.
Not everyone is cut out for cows. To each his/her own as they say.
Love that you were able to foster one of the calves to Mabel!
Yes! It’s working so well!
So glad it all went well, beautiful babies.
Us too!
We sometimes would give the first milk back to the cow n that would keep them from getting milk fever
Oh that’s interesting!
@@VenisonforDinner yes well if you think of it the first milk is sweet and you can also give them warm sugar water n that also helps we even do that for our sheep n goats.
Have you tried putting your 4 fingers into the milking machine to test for shocking? That's what I used to do and to make sure the suction wasn't too strong.
Yes I did eventually do that!!
@@VenisonforDinner I've just purchased a cow and calf, I'm a little nervous at my age to start this again, I can blame/thank you 👏❤️🙏🤞
Ohh how I’ve been waiting for this video since I saw the story on IG 😍😍 they are soooo cute ❤ thanks for sharing your everyday with the rest of us ❤️
and Mac, you’re awesome by the camera 😂
I will make sure to pass that on to Mac! 😊
Congratulations on the beautiful babies! I've never seen a baby cow being born, thank you for sharing. You have raised some amazing helpers Mac is going to be the best farmer!
Thank you so much!
How cool of Mac to check cows for you! Live how you are all involved. Thanks for the video!❤
Yes Mac is a great help. Thanks for watching!
Congratulations! I am excited for you being back in (milking) action and I know you will have great fun playing with the babies too!
Congrats!! How adorable ❤😊
Love hearing about the new babies! 😍
Loved this video! I know I will never have a cow, but I sure enjoy watching and learning. ❤
