    You're so generous with your information - thank you very much for your videos. I have returned to knitting after about a 25 year pause, and I'm loving it. Patterns, yarn, and even needles are very different now and much improved. Your Very Pink Knits videos are the refresh of information that I need. Thank you!!!!

    Fantastic video--so often you can find classes/videos for specific projects, but it's very hard to find what I call Principles of Knitting. Knowing the hows and why's of the construction along with how different fibers and different weights of fibers will behave can make the difference between something loved, or something tossed. I love this kind of video, and I truly hope you post more like it!

    Another thing I love about Ravelry when it comes to sweaters is yarn choice. It is so helpful to see how a certain yarn I am considering using might look in the finished garment, or if substituting a different yarn weight from what the designer suggests has worked for someone else.

    Dear Staci, I am so grateful to you for your work! I honestly can say that if it is not you and your videos (everything: how you speak, explain, and show) I would never ever love knitting. Thank you very much! I wish you everything good in life, and send you love vibes and respect. Thank you!

    I have been afraid to try knitting a sweater for a while now, but this video has made me more excited to try my first one! Something else that I have seen in relation to sweaters (and shawls too) is drape. Would you be able to make a video on the different kinds of drape and how to select a yarn that will give you the drape you want? Thanks so much!

    Great video. I always learn something new from your videos. I am going the watch this video again and take notes. After seeing this video I can now knit this vintage 1930's pattern with only one size.

    Thanks for this info! What about if the woman has a larger stomach than bust (like from change of life middle age belly?) - do you use 2 pattern sizes on a sweater so that neckline and bust area is fine and girth around middle is accounted for? If you choose larger for girth, then neckline could be wide. How do you compensate? A video on that would be very helpful!

    Hi, if you measure your favourite sweater and go with that measurement won't it change if you have a different gauge from the designer? I have gone up from a 4mm with DK weight yarn (designer recommendation) to a 5mm using Fingering weight yarn. I really like the texture of the fabric at the 5mm needle size in Fingering so I have no idea what size to choose. However, I have 2 stitches more with the 5mm with Fingering weight. That is with swatching but not blocking.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  2 роки тому

      When you knit a pattern, you want to match your gauge to that listed in the pattern to get the sizing as the designer wrote it. If you're looking at modifying the gauge, you're making a major mod. If you aren't experienced with designing, I recommend finding a different pattern - one that knits in the yarn weight and gauge you want to use.

    When knitting a sweater should you take into account how much the stitches will stretch when you put it on? So if a sweater is 40 inches around on circular needles, will it be 40 inches around off the needles? Will it be 40 inches around when worn? Or will it tend to stretch wider when you take it off the needles and put it on?

    • @linseyspolidoro5122
      @linseyspolidoro5122 4 роки тому

      It kinda depends on the yarn, your tension, and what stitch you use, like if it’s a rib then yes it will be stretchier off the needles. In my experience most things I’ve knit in the round tend to be a little bit bigger off the needles since my gauge is a little tighter on straight needles. If it’s scrunched together at all when you’re knitting it will probably end up a little bit bigger but there’s a lot of factors, sorry if that doesn’t help much.

    Another tip is to take a favourite coat/sweater/other over-garment, and measure it. Then try to find a measurement that's close . Ie if your garment is say 40 inches and the pattern has a 41 inche measure, pick that.

    Great tips, Staci. Unfortunately, I have had to knit my way through several sweaters (always too big!) before I figured these things out on my own. Too bad this video didn't come sooner; I could have saved myself a lot of frustration and time, lol. But as always, a great video. Thanks!

    When you're looking at the pattern and figuring out how many stitches are in the row at the bust, how do you know where the bustline is in the written directions. That's what's always held me back.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  4 роки тому

      You can email the pattern designer for clarity on that, if it isn't clear in the schematics. Or you can knit a swatch and get your row gauge, then count the number of rows (either from the top-down or bottom-up, depending on how the sweater is knit) to determine where the bust or waist shaping is placed. Once you have that information, you can move either one for a better fit, if necessary.

    how many cast ons go in 32 inches?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  6 років тому +1

      That is an unanswerable question...it depends on the weight of yarn you are using and the needle size. You can knit up a sample, measure your stitches per inch, and multiply that number by 32 to get your answer.
