Jesus Christ, the One and Only, who died for all sin. He was beaten beyond recognized, He was pierced in His side. "Jesus paid it all. All to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow." Praise His holy name!

“This day you will be with me In paradise!” Wow. Could there be any greater God-shot than this. Jesus did this of His own accord not because of what this man would/could do for the Kingdom. The man was facing rapidly approaching death and wouldn’t be going out to the outer most parts of the earth yet Jesus saved Him. He does this for us, not for works but because of His grace.
    Praise You King Jesus!

When I read these scriptures it hurts inside, but when I read that Jesus said “it is finished”, I am pulled from pain to joy. I feel exhausted when the reading is done. Because of what Jesus did for me, for us, I am saved, we are saved. Thank you Jesus. It is so hard to wait for His return. O Jesus come soon.

I really appreciate the additional details John gives in his account of Pilate making many efforts to let Jesus go. He knew Jesus was innocent, yet Pilate allowed the crowd to have their way. God was working. He had a plan and the people fulfilled it without even knowing.
I see correlation today. I am relieved and at peace because no matter what crazy things are going on in my community, our nation or in the world, we are in God's hands, He has a plan, and we can rest knowing that everything we have done is covered by Jesus and His ultimate sacrifice for us and anyone who come to the Father. God wants people to come to Him. How can I help? How can I lead people to God? LOVE LIKE JESUS. Submit to the Father. His Love is beyond comprehension.

My God shot: That God loves us so that He sacrificed His son, part of of himself, His triune nature, so that we can be saved and spend eternity with Him.
While the readings of today and the past few days have been hard, I am reminded that the Father's will, will be done. This let's me know, good or bad, God is in control and will receive the glory!

Aloha, praise the Lord and good morning BR family. These are challenging times we are going through right now, but let us not forget the ultimate sacrifice he went through for us. The one criminal who believes said in 23:42-43, Lord remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. What an amazing day! I can't describe what I'm feeling but here goes: joy, amazement, awe, completeness, bubbling over, peace, humble, ashamed, grateful. And most importantly blessed to be part of God's family. What an honour. There were a couple of things that did it for me today - the possible connection to the place where Abraham went to sacrifice his son, the link to the first line of David's Psalm confirming the fulfilment of his prophecy (yes, I agree with you TLC) but they just can't understand it, and the sheer level of torture Jesus went through for us. No wonder I'm filled with so many emotions. He is definitely where the Joy I! Amen!

Jesus cries out in Jn 19:30 “It is finished!” As Keith Green sang, “Life conquered death.” And I want to believe that when our loved ones “join Him today in paradise,” that they too have finished their work for the Kingdom. God brings them home because they have followed their Lord’s example, and their purpose has been fulfilled and Christ’s finished work in them is complete. And now they have joined our Savior in paradise.

Thank you for sharing that perspective Tara Leigh. It truly makes my heart so happy and secure in knowing when I was so lost in my sin, God didn’t leave me there alone. The thought of Him being there with me to comfort me in those difficult days and not shame me as the world did but instead loved me through it all fills my heart with so much joy. And your right. It does push me to run to Him when I fall and not run away.

Pilate said Jesus had done nothing to deserve death (Luke 24:15), he found no grounds for the death penalty (Luke 23:22), and no basis for a charge against Him (John 19:6). Yet, Jesus went willingly to the cross and submitted to His Father's will. ❤️

I appreciate what you said about the quote "Why have you forsaken me." I have never felt that God could turn his back on His son. Even though He was covered in our sins. I also understand that Rabbis used the first sentence of a text because everyone would know what they were referring to. I think tradition has taken over rather than what might actually be meant. I go back and think of who God is. That does not mean that this is correct but it does make more sense to me. Thank you.

I've heard it's also the same hill where David buried the head of Goliath which I think is the reason for the name Golgotha. And thank you for your explanation that God CAN look on sin. I have thought this for years but al my pastors say the opposite. I always refer to Job and think "Why can he sit with Satan but not me?" How can he hear a sinner ask for salvation at all if He can't come near sin before it is covered by the blood? He also kicked them out of the Garden and then still walked among them! Remeber the conversation with Esau asking "Where is your brother?"

I have heard many times that God turned away at the time of the crucifixion, but I have always thought that was contradictory to God's character in that He promises to never leave us or forsake us. I like your interpretation of Jesus quoting Psalm instead. It makes total sense that he would be retelling the prophecy while it is being fulfilled for a couple of reasons. It was a reminder to those hearing it of the promise He was fulfilling and it was a way of enduring the suffering he was going through to also k ow He was doing what the Father intended and why. Thank you.

I struggle with Luke’s account of the thief on the cross. How could this man be with Jesus in paradise “this day” when Jesus didn’t ascend to heaven for several more days? I think since there is no punctuation in the original Greek. It reads “…I tell you today, you will be with me in paradise.” Meaning the the thief will be in paradise with Jesus upon the second coming.

I was moved by the sheer number of times that the authorities said Jesus was not guilty. He had done nothing worthy of death. And even the Jews said it was not lawful for them to put anyone to death. It was the rule of the mob that took Jesus to the cross, but all under God's sovereign control for his purpose of bringing salvation. And Jesus answered not a word. He died willingly, for us.

All those who say Jesus was crucified and died on Thursday should read Luke 23:54.
    Luke 23:54 ESV
[54] "It was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was beginning. "
It was Friday--the day of preparation for the Sabbath.

It is really too bad that TLC considers iconographic depictions of the crucifixion to be a "mockery." What she may not understand is *why* Christ is depicted without an excessive amount of gore. It is not an attempt to downplay his suffering, but rather emphasizes that he willingly endures this suffering. His life was voluntarily given for ours. If you search for "Orthodox icon of the crucifixion," you can see Christ has a peaceful demeanor, almost as if He is resting, as if He is in total control: because He is in total control. Christ is also depicted with a serpentine curve to His body, which is a reference back to the bronze serpent, upon which the Israelites cast their gaze to be healed of the venom. The bottom line is that there are layers to the Christian tradition that we underappreciate and even reject because we don't understand the context and intent. We would do well to study the early Church more.

The scriptures we've read today and yesterday clearly indicate that Jesus was crucified on preparation day ie the day before the Sabbath which is Friday. So what was all that talk from a few days ago about Jesus being crucified on Thursday and maybe even Wednesday about?

    • @spitzegraphics3238
      @spitzegraphics3238 2 місяці тому +5

One thing many people don't realize it's that Sabbath did not only occur on the seventh day (Saturday). Special Sabbaths occurred in conjunction with the yearly festivals. So that week of Passover might have had an extra Sabbath, maybe on Thursday or Friday. That would be in addition to the usual Saturday Sabbath. If Jesus died on Thursday and Friday was a special Sabbath, that would explain why the women's waited until Sunday to visit the tomb.

    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭23:5‭-‬16‬ ‭NIV‬‬
[5] But they insisted, “He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here.” [6] On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean. [7] When he learned that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time. [8] When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort. [9] He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer. [10] The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him. [11] Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate. [12] That day Herod and Pilate became friends-before this they had been enemies. [13] Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people, [14] and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him. [15] Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death. [16] Therefore, I will punish him and then release him.”

Tara, you are exactly right about quoting the first line of the Psalm and how the Trinity cannot be separated from Itself. How do you reconcile this with your apparent belief in penal substitutionary atonement? If I misunderstand you, please forgive me. But in the past that you've advocated for the notion that the "wrath" of the Father is being exacted on His Son. If this is the case, is not God's will being turned against Himself? It would seem so, and this contradicts your position in this video that God cannot forsake Himself. ... For the record, I do not believe in penal substitutionary atonement in this form.
