To my knowledge, consent is a huge make or break thing when it comes to marriages, which is why you can't do it to the girl/ moonless in the first game (no idea how the guards got those moonless beasts to agree to it.) In the demo, doing so outright kills you, saying the Sylvian doesn't condone such acts. I think it hinted to a failed marriage like Buckman/ Seymor in the thicket, but not sure. There are still questions, like why the bunnymasks don't fuse and opt to be in a trance for the rest of their days instead. There's also Kaiser using the physically superior marriages to make up his army, just real cool stuff around the Sylvian.

I always thought of bremen troopers as super soldiers who were people with good genetics that had gone through multiple experiments, but i guess it also makes sense that they could be marriages, or maybe it's people with good genetics who had a dozen of experiments performed on them to make them stronger and they are turned into a Marriage to become even stronger.
I think it’s pretty ambiguous as to whether or not they’re Marriages, tbh. They could very well be Bremen experiments! I just brought it up as a possibility! c: Imagine your officer in the army telling you to go bone another soldier for the sake of the army.
The term "marriage" is also used in machines and / or IT. An example of the top of my head would be the PlayStation 4 and its disc drive. Every console has a unique system ID and every disc drive is specifically linked to only work with that one console. So both components are "married" to each other.
I'd also say that Buckman and Ser Seymour are a good way of clearing things up but everyone forgets about those two and their Marriage, including me. I think that Father Hugo's scrapped sprite being removed is a good thing because WOW do the implications make me even more uncomfortable than the game already does. Yeah the game is already full of horrific stuff but I think I would've cried if I encountered that in-game. The fallen cherubs are already so tragic...
I read a theory that the closer two people are, the more perfect their Marriage will be. Since the Human Hydra was composed of a ton of guards, presumably all just guys who were coworkers at best, they didn’t have any sort of tight bond.
Honestly I thought of it as taking the spiritual idea of marriage found in christianity (The two become one flesh, as Genesis explains) Though I would like to ask another question: what about the abominable marriage? I wonder if they're considered a perversion of this "Two become one" idea and are kinda cursed to not have working genitalia as a result.
I’ve seen speculation that the more corrupt a Marriage seems, the less connected the participants were, and that two people who were wholly, totally in love would form a perfect, seamless Marriage. Perhaps the Abominable Marriage is in such a form because it feels less and less caring. Or maybe the genitalia doesn’t work because the rest of the body isn’t too functional. It’s like over-kneading clay and losing all the moisture. The bodies are overworked from being molded and melded together and now everything’s just kind of… there. It’s clay, but it’s not workable clay.
She meaning me? Because I'm a dude lol And yeah I wanted to give a quick overview of "marriages of flesh are not weddings". Maybe I'll do a deeper dive into the gods at some point and mention Buckman and Ser Seymor. c: (Also I may have forgot haha)
