  • We got our hands on the World's First Robot Reel Mower. The Oasa R1 Robot Mower not only has an all-metal 13" Reel blade system, it also uses LIDAR technology along with cameras to map, mow, and avoid obstacles; all with very little user intervention. Adjust the cutting height with the App from 0.8" to 4" in just seconds. This is the first cordless robot reel mower and you can find it on currently on Kickstarter.

    I just found you and instantly subscribed. You are a good communicator! Thank you for reviewing this. Especiallly impressive was the demonstration with how clean the scissor-action cuts the paper. Well done! This mower solves really all the objections and problems I had with the previous generation mower that requires the wire installation in the ground.

    That is a softball lawn. I would like to see a lawn with different terrains, slopes, and obstacles.

      That's really the position of this mower is to be able to handle lawns like turf on a Pro baseball field or on a really nice golf course fairway. While it will cut any type of grass, the reel mower is the best at cutting tight and compact lawns like manicured bermuda, zoysia, etc. Rotary blade mowers just can't compare. Thanks for watching.

      a cylinder mower is for a good lawn, not a field or for rough terrain. This is what you would use on a golf course or cricket pitch.

    Would you say that it is worth it for an average lawn with fescue grass or your standard Scott Sun and Shade Seeded Grass?
    What was the noise level?
    How was the obstacle avoidance?
    I really want to back this on Kickstarter, but have my reservations. I am happy to see a review from a channel that does tool reviews though.

    How do you program in no-go zones like if you have an area you want it to keep out in the middle of a lawn map?

    Funny how this video doesn’t show it actually cutting grass lol it’s literally covering area that has clearly already been cut.

      I agree but to be fair these robots mowers are not designed to take over 1/2inch of grass. they cut every day of the week. I read somewhere that 5 days a week is minimum. on the initial cut if it is above 1/2 inch you have to precut the lawn.

    how was the noise level compared to a rotary mower?
    seemed espacially the reel action/cutting was clearly hearable.
    came from recording or was also "that loud" in real?

    I remember using a reef mower and they do a great job as long as the blade is sharp, they are a pain to sharpen. Is the blade on that mower removable for sharpening? Apart from initial the cost of the mower what is the cost of replacement batteries?

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  2 місяці тому +1

      This mower actually uses Voiceprint Detection Algorithm that "listens" to ensure the blades are contacting the bed, and realtime adjusts accordingly. This keeps the blades sharp (self-sharpening), almost eliminating blade maintenance.
      We are not sure on the price for replacement batteries.

    Couple of things.
    #1 NEVER cut your grass that short. Unless you have a sprinkler system you are asking for trouble.
    #2 Reel mowers require SUPER flat surfaces so if your lawn is bumpy this is a no go.
    #3 20:16 you can see where it does not go back over its perimeter cut and leaves high areas.
    #4 If you are not into adjusting stuff this isn't for you. Reel mowers are generally hard to sharpen and require constant sharpening and blade adjustments to ensure that the blade tolerance is perfect.
    This to me seems like the complete opposite of why you would want to purchase a robot mower for.

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  2 місяці тому +1

      You may have some general opinions that are correct, but not necessarily absolutes.
      #1 - No, you don't want to cut St. Augustine down to 1", and many other grasses. However, taking bermuda carefully down to 1" is fairly common. In fact, the ideal height for cutting Bermuda grass is 0.5 to 1.5 inches. This height promotes a healthy root system and encourages a dense and lush lawn. (theturfgrassgroup.com) And, the ideal cut for Zoysia is 1-1/2".
      #2 - Mostly correct. Reel mowers are most beneficial for flat and mostly pristine lawns. However, reel mowers pre-date our now common rotary mowers, and they work just fine in many lawns.
      #3 - The idea of a robot mower is that you schedule it to run multiple times each week. It's not perfect on a single pass, but after it cuts several times during the week, it has cut all the missed areas. Also, areas around the edge, you can select to use the "Hover" mode when mapping, as we did on part of the small strip, and this straddles the edge of the lawn and the sidewalk/road, making sure the edges are cut. Lastly, having a robot mower doesn't mean you will never have to use a string trimmer.
      #4 - This mower actually uses Voiceprint Detection Algorithm that "listens" to ensure the blades are contacting the bed, and realtime adjusts accordingly. This keeps the blades sharp (self-sharpening), almost eliminating blade maintenance.
      We really appreciate the input and thank you for watching.
