      Thanks Max. Yeah, I love my J.

    You can use it whenever you like. I use it whenever I want the plane in a different attitude: after initial climb, when setting up cruise attitude, and on approaches. In X-Plane it is set up backwards from the real plane. May be same in FSX.

    GREAT video, great pictures. Thank you for sharing.

    Tim, I use a GoPro 3. The plane is smooth. Very little vibration.

    I'm sure the folks below were thrilled by your noisy aircraft flying over to take pics.

    Matt, what video cameras are using? The video looks really stable.

      Just a GoPro 4. It's suction cup mounted to a window. The plane is very stable, not a lot of vibration.

    Thanks for posting the Mooney videos. I've been considering a Mooney but when I sat in one, I noticed that I was very close to the panel. I'm only 5'8 on a good day. You appear to be a good distance from the panel. Do you have pedal extensions or are you tall? I've read about it being tough in the flare for some people when they are so close to the yoke. Thanks.

      Thanks for watching! I'm 6'4". The reason I got the Mooney was in part that I can stretch my legs out completely, which isn't the case in most planes. In fact, I can't pilot a good many because my legs interfere with the yoke. In the Mooney, with the seat full back even I can't reach the pedals. I do not have extension pedals but they can be had. If you come in at the right speed the flare is easy, mostly handled by electric trim (on a J anyway) and finessed by hand. The yoke is pretty far back, though, and I suppose if you're close to the panel the yoke pull could be awkward.

      I just noticed how you use the electric trim during the flare. That seems to make it a really smooth transition. I sometimes find it hard to avoid abrupt changes when pulling the yoke back in the flare.

      The trim speed is just about perfect for rounding out (and seems to be well matched to electric flap speed). However, if you're going too fast, putting in electric trim will balloon the plane. In Mooneys, final approach speed is critical. For my plane, the books says 71 knots, but that's for max weight. That speed is okay at lower weight but the plane takes longer to settle down. I find safe landing speed (1.3Vso) for lower weight is more like 65 knots. Those few knots make quite a difference in a Mooney. I made myself a little chart I consult when landing which has a range of landing speeds based on remaining fuel plus cabin load.

      @@aloofdork What are the planes you CAN'T fit in? I'm same height, 34" inseam. 150 KTAS is about as slow as I want to go.

    Can someone who is 5ft 4" comfortably fly it? Is the seat height and inseam comfortable for shorties?

    • @aloofdork
      @aloofdork  3 роки тому +1

      I can't say for sure. I'm 6'4". But, the pilot seat height is adjustable and the rudder pedals can be extended.

      thanks are the 60s M20 worth buying, or they will need a lot of maintenance and unsafe?

    • @aloofdork
      @aloofdork  3 роки тому +1

      @@fevicoI It really depends on the specific plane. There's nothing inherently wrong with a 60's aircraft. A thorough pre-buy inspection by a qualified mechanic is a must for any aircraft purchase.

    Just looking at a moony M20J forsale in Barnstormer fast little plane. What kind of fuel burn rate do you get at cruse?

    • @aloofdork
      @aloofdork  8 років тому

      Depending on altitude and how fast I want to get where in going anywhere from 7 to 11 gph. My usual cruise burn is 8.5 gph lean of peak between 8 and 10k which nets around 150kt true. It'll go faster but fuel consumption goes up quickly.
