Dude, I’d like this a hundred times if I could. Thanks SOOO much for doing this one. It’s way up on my list of favorites from Rush and I just knew in the first few seconds that you were gonna love it. Fantastic reaction!
Rush are among the gods of Rock n' Roll!!!! I love me some Rush!!!! And this song is why!!!! Just excellent musicianship. Deep lyrics and arrangements!!!! Excellent!!!! Love your reactions!!!!
I’ve played guitar since age 7, now 22. First let me say rush is my favorite band. Thank you for enjoying their music as well and putting it out there for people to see. Second I can assure you, nothing about playing rush is easy, especially live. The guys may make it look easy and fun, but they are all playing their asses off, and it’s a challenge each and every time to get those parts right live. I’ve read some of Neil’s books and he always states how playing at his best takes intense mental and physical concentration/ endurance. It was never easy for him. Geddy is playing super complex bass parts while using foot pedals to trigger the synth effects in the background. He also sings, and plays keys during parts with no bass. And sometimes all at the same time… As for Alex’s parts, I can attest, I’ve been playing them for 10+ years and they are a fun challenge each time to nail 100%. He is a criminally underrated guitar player. Very complex riffs and chords, along with amazing melodic flow.
Damn bro im glad to see people branch out there favorite genres, there was too much music for some of it to never get the appreciation it rightfully deserves
@BigMacRush...love your name, I agree...Natural Science needs to follow this one. As a bass player it took me about 25 years to truly appreciate Alex Lifeson's Master lead parts in Natural Science (omg), & this gem here, Jacob's Ladder.
Thank you for covering this one, it is one of their greatest gems but it is too often overlooked. Another outstanding Rush track that deserves much more attention is Circumstances from Hemispheres, I just love the jagged complex rhythm, the hard crunch and those startling wide intervals in the melody, there is no other song like it. you should check it out.
They might make it look easy on stage, but my impression is that it was never easy for them. If you watch the documentary, read about these guys, or just listen to the lyrics, it was never just pure talent or gifts. They wanted to be as great as they could possibly be - on their own terms, with the music that inspired them. They devoted the hours and passion to make it happen.
Such an amazing song. It’s even more amazing to watch them play it live. I got to see them do it live at 10 shows on their last tour in 2015. KEEP RUSHIN MAN!!
One thing you will discover about Neil is that he is not repetitive. What I mean is that, yes he is keeping time repetitively, but he makes little changes in what exactly he plays. Give a listen to the part around 5:50 where he comes back in after that slower, mellower part, and just follow what he plays. The beat stays the same, but he changes patterns on kick, snare, cymbals, high hat, toms, et cetera, constantly, while maintaining a perfect beat.
Great reaction to a great song!!! If you haven’t heard it yet check out Natural Science from the same album, I have always thought of it as a companion piece to Jacobs Ladder
Great reaction. Watch the live version from their last tour they did in 2015, the R40 gig. Three over talented guys smashing it in their early 60's. Awesome.
So, the album and song that set RUSH on their way was 2112. It came out in 1976. It's probably their most famous song. It is 21 minutes and will, well, you will see..
This is my new favorite Rush song! Amazing: Organic topic, and organic time changes - all perfectly combined in true Rush power trio fashion! And you, Pope, get it! I especially liked your reaction at 4:25 when the mood shifted. Your reactions are pure! Thank you!
They were one of the hardest working bands at the time. The drummer Neil PEART RIP, wrote 99.99 PERCENT of ALL the lyrics. All but 1 song lol... brilliant man
This one was a banger live in concert! They always played this one with tons of lasers, and everyone just head banging like you just were. Love it man, keep the rush coming.
Jacobs Ladder is an epic song, especially live. There’s just no way to reprise the mammoth base tones of Geggy’s bad and pedals over a stereo or head phones. Odd time percussion at its best!
Such a great song!! They only played this live on a couple tours! I really wish I could have seen this song live! The time signatures changes in this song alone are just mind blowing!! Keep em coming!! Try “Far Cry”, “Headlong Flight” or “Driven” for some rockin sound that came later in their career!! God Bless… from Texas!!
You have such a long and exciting road to travel with Rush. And Yes, for that matter. I'm very happy to see you and other younger folks discovering and getting into Rush and at the same time sad that you'll never get to see them live. There was nothing that could compare. The live performances that were captured on video do them justice but being there was beyond words.
only and i mean only rush could pull off a song about clouds and make it thought provoking and epic neil was always interpreting the natural world in his lyrics I'd like to think he was fascinated and humbled by all things great and small
Loved watching your reactions. You were picking up on the drum rhythms which are actually very complex in this song ... percussive note phrases of 7 then 8 at the start, also some snare work that sounds like a military band. It's an amazing composition musically and rhythmically. There is a guy who plays drums to this track and it's amazing to watch what is actually going on with the drums. I'm a guitarist by btw so it's not often I am blown away by the drums in a song
I love how you break the song down and peel back the layers of complexity!! I remember this all to well in high school. We need to bring back musicianship into todays music that made the 60’s , 70’s & even the 80’s . We also need bands to invent new music instead of copying and pasting!! Keep up the great reviews.
Just wait till you get into their newer stuff…their last studio album is amazing, it’s their only true start to finish concept album….so much personal meaning, especially the last song written by Neil Peart and recorded by the band, The Garden. They could not have ended with any other record than that one
I absolutely LOVE to watch the emotions flow through you on every Rush reaction, but especially on this one. And, dude… with my 1,000 listen to this song it still hits me that exact same way.
Again another excellent Rush reaction 🇨🇦❤️✌️..If you would like to get a glimpse of these guys just being themselves please react to Dinner With Rush….sending much love❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😎🇨🇦
A song about a thunderstorm. What is not to love? I have lived through many supercell thunderstorms in kansas, and this song captures that. It is crazy, scary, dark and light. You never know what's coming next, just like this song.
No better Rush song for me. Glad you got to hear it and keep it up. And the person who mixed in the actual thunderstorm on vid and added its flow in simplicity created a masterpiece for this
The first time I saw Rush at Red Rocks the weather forecast was for rain and possible storms. Folks and fellow fans... I love you all and wish you could have been there. The rain passed over and hit the southern Denver area with bolts of lightning during the boys playing 2112. I'm not making this up! The bolts of lightning coincided with the song. Geggy, Alex and Neil were probably wondering why the crowd was so eruputing at times - for the band was facing west and the storm was behind them. Big bolts of lightning! Big. And while they were playing 2112. Honestly, most of my concert memories fade into cotton memories, but that one... THAT one, will always be epic in my mind. Rush was always about nature, and to have that happen at a Rush concert, and at Red Rocks outdoors... damn. Bolts of lightning from the sky at the perfect time during 2112 as if it was pre-planned like a 4th of July show...
Love ur stuff ....u have a great Response 2 every song u do!!! I have 2 requests one is One love Bob Marley live....... And babylon by David grey .......when I first heard this Song I thought it was Tracy Chapman......
Loved the video towards the end of the song where you can see Jacob's Ladder appearing through the storm clouds and beaming down to the earth. You should react to "The Camera Eye" by Rush next.
This song is what inspired me to take up photography! To have the privilege to see them play it live, with the video background and lasers was a moving experience. 💙🤘🏼✌️
Another Rush song that never ceases to amaze me is ‘Roll the Bones’. It demonstrates just how versatile they are. I prefer to say ‘they are’ even though Neil is now with a higher being; their music will never die!
Interesting that you pointed out the similarity to Yes---- for a bit of trivia, Yes used Geddy Lee of Rush to play bass, for a live performance after their legendary bassist, Chris Squire passed away a few years ago. The footage is on UA-cam, if you look up Yes with Geddy Lee.
Rush Reaction Videos, I know, you just can’t get enough. I can’t say I am totally surprised at the selections, and realization of the greatness of this band, we will see, but probably never hear these two songs on the radio; for a reason that only true RUSH fans will never understand, and then completely understand. These songs are true RUSH; relax and enjoy. And see if you can keep up with their time signature changes. Just guts, and dealing with an industry that is focused on 3 minute songs that you’d forget the day you get to work; are they playing in your car, probably not. And here’s my reaction comment. How to tell a true RUSH fan from a wanna be? If your first song selection is comprised of and off their Permanent Waves album; both are Jacobs Ladder 'and' Natural Science. If so, reward yourself for being a true bad ass. Marty
Another great react vid! I'm really looking forward to you doing some more of the early Rush epics like The Fountain of Lamneth ( ua-cam.com/video/MrqwZD7jMqI/v-deo.html ). Also eagerly awaiting 2112, By-Tor and the Snowdog, The Necromancer, the list still goes on and on!
You get that guitar sound in the albums before the 80s After that the synthesizer played more a part in there sound Try 2112 its a must from Rush But my fav is The Fountain of Lamneth Geddys singing is unreal in it .They all go off really
Pope. man- you make it easy to like your channel, with Rush, Zep, Floyd and The Who- great choices. All you gotta do now is complete the greats: Jethro Tull, Dire Straits, Supertramp and The Kinks (this one is hard, because humour fuelled their Rock- and humour doesn't travel well). Hi again from Canada- home of the mighty Rush (and a few others you'd like- Triumph, April Wine, Tragically Hip, Leonard Cohen, Doug and the Slugs, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Guess Who, Mahogany Rush, Voivod, Unleash the Archers, kd lang, and (sorta) Arcade Fire, and...). Peace and be safe.
Love your enthusiasm but then again Rush do that to people especially when hearing them for the first time hell even after multiole listenings.Theres always something going on in the background too.Agree Natutal Science and also The Camera Eye are the natiral follow up to Jacobs Ladder both excellent. Two of their deeper songs that rarely get a mention but are both mini masterpieces with great musicianship and lyrics are the beautiful bluesy Here Again it has a great vibe and wonderful solo at the end its from the 1st album and Losing It from Signals. The lyrics are brilliant thought provoking and what a sound with those violins and that middle solo.It would be great if you could find time fot these man.Cheers.
They work very hard to make it look "easy ' Geddy said in an interview . They rehearse to get ready to rehearse for hours and day's to make it look easy. lol
My favorite band. This trio imho was a combination of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Yes that came a little before them and a mixture of Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Queensryche that came after them. But Rush surpassed all of those bands that influenced them and better than those who they influenced. There will never be another band quite like this little Canadian trio. Back when I was young shit like this really took me on a journey and blew my mind when I was toking.
The best and only reaction videos that should exist are actual reaction videos. Not people hearing themselves talk right before the most important part of the song. Thank you
I know everyone likes watching progressive music reactions, I do too. I’d also like to see someone’s reaction to a hot rock tune from the early 70s like say Choo Choo Mama by Ten Years After.
The guys trying to break away from 80s corporate rock (Metallica, Nirvana, etc.) took due notice of a song like Jacob's Ladder. Ahead of its time in 1980 despite the echoes of Zeppelin's Kashmir.
Dude, I’d like this a hundred times if I could. Thanks SOOO much for doing this one. It’s way up on my list of favorites from Rush and I just knew in the first few seconds that you were gonna love it. Fantastic reaction!
100% dude, couldn't agree more!!!! This song is soooo underrated, along with Cygnus X-1 Book one
Rush music is really something unique and special. The time signatures are really creative and well synced. I enjoy watching you feel the genius.
This is easily in their top 5 best songs for me. They were able to tap into something cosmic and eternal in this song.

Rush....Natural Science......
RUSH was the complete package. Talent, creativity, and super cool kind dudes.
😁 I love that you love Rush! ☺️ Can't stop smiling watching you react to them! 😍🐰
Natural Science needs to be after this my dude
@BigMacRush...love your name, I agree...Natural Science needs to follow this one. As a bass player it took me about 25 years to truly appreciate Alex Lifeson's Master lead parts in Natural Science (omg), & this gem here, Jacob's Ladder.
Live😀
🙋🏿♀️ Natural Science! ☺️🐰
One of my favorite rush songs...
Great reaction.....
I’d like to hear you play “The Trees” off of Hemispheres. This one is mind boggling!
A song rarely played live. I was lucky enough to see and hear it live on their final tour, incredible.
Play this while it's raining and thundering!! You will love it!
CRANK IT UP!
Geddy loves Yes. And its cool to see a young man discovering Rush. Ive been listening to them for 35 years!!! Welcome to the RUSH club.
Love this song! Love Rush! Love your reaction. RIP Neil 🙏
Rush - Cygnus X1 : Book 1
I agree, Natural Science! Gotta say Alex KILLS it on this one!
He does
Permanent Waves best album
They might make it look easy on stage, but my impression is that it was never easy for them. The shifting shafts of shining weaves the fabric of their dreams.....
Such an amazing song.
It’s even more amazing to watch them play it live. I got to see them do it live at 10 shows on their last tour in 2015.
KEEP RUSHIN MAN!!
Hey Lisa! 😂✌️
Yeah, Jacob’s Ladder at R40 was a spiritual experience! I wanted to see them play it live before they retired and I got my wish. 💙🤘🏼
One thing you will discover about Neil is that he is not repetitive. What I mean is that, yes he is keeping time repetitively, but he makes little changes in what exactly he plays. You should have maybe have reacted to this live version? Rush - Jacob's Ladder (Live R40)
This dude is the best at reaction videos. No talking. Just vibe. That's wassup
Awesome.

Great reaction to one of the best songs performed by my favorite band, RUSH!
That's one of my favorite songs from them. It's definitely in my top 20 (I have a LOT of songs I love from them).
I envy you. To be able to go back 45 years and re experience all this again for the first time would be life changing ( again)
There you go homes!!! Keep it up bro, you 'get" the 70's mindset.
Jacobs Ladder is an epic song, especially live. There’s just no way to reprise the mammoth base tones of Geggy’s bad and pedals over a stereo or head phones.
Odd time percussion at its best!
in my opinion best Rush song ever
Such a great song!! They only played this live on a couple tours! I really wish I could have seen this song live! The time signatures changes in this song alone are just mind blowing!! I gotta agree with everyone on “Natural Science”, also!

JL is truly their most majestic song. I had the pleasure of hearing it live in 1981, but it was shelved until 2015
only and i mean only rush could pull off a song about clouds and make it thought provoking and epic neil was always interpreting the natural world in his lyrics I'd like to think he was fascinated and humbled by all things great and small
loved watching you feel and groove to this epic masterpiece!! feelin it right along with ya man

man Rush used to play our city every summer and as a kid I made sure I had enough money to go see them...
I love how you break the song down and peel back the layers of complexity!! I remember this all to well in high school. We need to bring back musicianship into todays music that made the 60’s , 70’s & even the 80’s . We also need bands to invent new music instead of copying and pasting!! Keep up the great reviews.
Great reaction to pure brilliant musicianship and artistry. One of Rush’s best! I agree below, Natural Science is a must! 😎
Great video man. So nice to see someone appreciating these boys. Thank you..
Just wait till you get into their newer stuff…their last studio album is amazing, it’s their only true start to finish concept album….so much personal meaning, especially the last song written by Neil Peart and recorded by the band, The Garden. Another great Rush song, another great reaction. I don't normally tune in at 8am but I always enjoy Pope's reactions
I absolutely LOVE to watch the emotions flow through you on every Rush reaction, but especially on this one. And, dude… with my 1,000 listen to this song it still hits me that exact same way.

Great reaction! Awesome song! Consider reacting to "Entre Nous" by Rush next. Do the lyric version because that one is very deep.
Phenomenal reaction on an oldie and a goodie! Well done.
5:53 these madmen are playing in three different time signatures, yet it all nicely fits together.
Yea bro…. CRAZY 😜
pretty cool when someone can write a song about the weather and make it sound this interesting
You get that guitar sound in the albums before the 80s After that the synthesizer played more a part in there sound Try 2112 its a must from Rush But my fav is The Fountain of Lamneth Geddys singing is unreal in it .They all go off really

Yes Canada puts out many great bands that people don't know of.. Why cause their from Canada , what a shame....
Loved your reaction!
13/8 time signature in the middle section. Cool stuff.
You always know it was Rush by the 1st notes!😀🎶🎸
Straight chills.
Deep track! I haven't heard that one in decades! Great track though!
Great reaction to a great song! Keep the Rush coming. The Rush army is prepared for duty...You've got yourself a new sub.

Rush, ya gotta feel it.
They work very hard to make it look "easy
' Geddy said in an interview . They rehearse to get ready to rehearse for hours and day's to make it look easy. lol
Neo think, is how it's done. Fully integrated honesty.
Hey Pope, so glad u dig the music of my youth
My favorite band. This trio imho was a combination of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Yes that came a little before them and a mixture of Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Queensryche that came after them. thx. love these dudes.
Any early or later rush is awesome. "Before and after" is awesome.... 2112 also please...
And this exemplifies why they are one of the greatest bands ever... today's music is shit...
great!!!😎😎😎
Omg! It’s THE Tom Sawyer , hope all is well⭐️
This song from R40. Turn it up. Hell, film it even 🤷🏻♂️
Cheers from one Rush fan to another. Enjoy the ride.
The best and only reaction videos that should exist are actual reaction videos. Not people hearing themselves talk right before the most important part of the song. Thank you
Natural Science ….same album …just as mind boggling!!!!
Far Cry is wicked as well. 🎸
I know everyone likes watching progressive music reactions, I do too. I’d also like to see someone’s reaction to a hot rock tune from the early 70s like say Choo Choo Mama by Ten Years After.
Another band to check out is Van Der Graaf Generator. Try Man-Erg. Keep the Rush coming as well. Thanks.
The fact that you related it to yes 🙏🏻
The guys trying to break away from 80s corporate rock (Metallica, Nirvana, etc.) took due notice of a song like Jacob's Ladder. Ahead of its time in 1980 despite the echoes of Zeppelin's Kashmir.
Awe Crap !!! I click on Jacob's ladder and up pops the natural science vid? kool though !!! Don't sleep on Alex young blood !!!
Cool hair... Ha ha 😝
This song is brilliant, check it out live..incredible
