    Fully agreed with u Josh. Decided to sell my car recently to have 100k in uob one account earning 5% interest. Doesn't matter if I look poor by taking bus and mrt. 😊

    Prudence at its best. Fully agree! Happiness does not necessarily come in material forms, because they usually come in simple yet warm pleasures not measurable by monies. ❤

    When I was younger I see my peers and classmates challenging amongst themselves to be the first to drive a Merc or BMW and living in a condo when i thought they barely earn enough to support all these luxuries. The intention is simply to show off and telling subtely to everyone that they have arrived. Years later when the economy falters and they lost their jobs I see the tragic sides of humanity...broken, family, bankruptcy and complete social withdrawal.

      I also see colleagues driving big cars like Mercedes... when their pay checks is almost the same as mine or slightly more and I take the bus. I dun envy. I find them silly. I save up the money and see my money grow!🎉

    In Singapore, holding a classy wedding banquet in a high-end hotel is not expensive at all for the new couple. The guests are the ones footing the bill. Guests are very well informed of how each seat costs and will contribute accordingly as their wedding gift. Although some may give less, there are those who would give more and that covers the shortfall. As such, the expenses are actually not that high even if the couple needs to top up the difference. On the contrary, there are many newlywed couples that made profits from their banquet gifts and their honeymoon is fully sponsored. So next time, if you hear anyone telling you that their wedding banquet costs $2500 per table and they had spent $125K for 50 tables, you can just smile. They are only telling you how much to contribute ‼️😘

    • @joshconsultancy

      Maybe guest should start capping their budgets so that banquets rates don’t inflate more? Idk vicious loop

    • @lecherhao86
      @lecherhao86 Рік тому

      I never follow the rate when I attend people's wedding. I just pay what I can afford. Usually $80.
      Why do we need to feel pressured when attending wedding dinner? They invite us because they want us to grace the event. Money shouldn't come into the picture.

    On the other hand, there's this "dress for success/to impress" school of thought that wearing nicer clothes gives you more self confidence and indirectly boosts your performance at work etc, and also it gives people a better impression of you which results in better salary reviews and such. Like for example if you wear a killer suit and such you'll stand out at work and be more likely to be noticed by the CEO and higher ups > faster promotion and more $$$. Also I guess it definitely won't hurt for people in sales and such. If you're a financial salesperson and you show up in a Mercedes and a nice suit it will definitely help boost the client's confidence in you and you'll make more sales. What do you think?

    • @joshconsultancy
      @joshconsultancy  Рік тому

      Im in sales and I use my work on the internet for customers to get a sense of the quality of advice.
      If I hire a property agent, I don't believe him/her arriving in a mercedes helps. I feel I might even be weary

    Hi Josh, I have been following ur videos and have put off for a while watching this vid as I don’t reasonate with the vid’s name on looking poor. Have finally watched this vid and below are my thoughts. I don’t think any single person needs to look in a certain way deliberately to achieve a sense of financial success. No doubt, there are people who are wear flashy items to create this facade of being wealthy. But this does not speak for everyone. I also don’t think that everyone needs to follow Warren Buffet to in order to achieve financial freedom. Having MACs every single day is unhealthy and having gadgets that are seriously outdated in the long run is not helpful to e communication due to the lag and all. I believe in spending things that one really enjoy and spend within one’s means and plan ahead. Typically, quality equates to a higher price tag, not everyone pays for brand solely. Every situation varies, and is never a one size fits all. At the end of the day, when one is relentlessly cutting down on all little luxuries in life, it’s pointless. Life is a good amount and balance of enjoyment, prudence.
    Neverthess, thanks for this video. ❤

    Hi Josh, this content is so so so relatable. Its disheartening to witness individuals in my surroundings who earn more but ultimately end up being the least happy.
    To all the young one (20-35yo) out there, like what Josh mentioned it's always how much you can keep (and invest). Lifestyle inflation is a silent killer of your finances. Choose wisely. Cheers! 🤗

      I think I really look poor and I dun know why. I usually wear slippers, carry a My Melody/Twin Star/Mickey Mouse print recycle bag and wears a normal dress and credit card promoters hardly approach me. Instead, the skills future staff always approach me!😨🤦I think I must have looked like a house wife though I earn a decent pay and have a fully paid landed, an apartment and a condo with just one more year to fully repay. I have quite a handsome collection of gold bars and jewellery, old currencies, CPF rich but I just look poor. I can go to expensive hotel buffets to celebrate wedding anniversary and my hubby carry a backpack and I carry a recycle bag. We just dun blend into that kind of environment.😅

    So, here's the scoop: I've been putting on my best "I'm broke" act lately, and when I stroll through the mall (not in SG), people are looking at me like I'm about to apply for a part-time job as a mall cop just to make ends meet. Little do they know, I could buy that flashy promo car they're drooling over with a wad of cash.😎🤣
