Same thing with garage sales. If you are having a garage sale and want Ebay...sorry but sell them on Ebay. Im not going to pay you Ebay prices when you get the convenience of not having to package the item, go to the post office...AND not have to pay Ebay fees. I get so sick of hearing " dahhh dis goes for blah blah on Ebay"....most of the time they are looking at high Buy it Nows and are wrong anyway.
Idk usually when I go whenever a seller offers up a price that is usually lower than what its actually worth, I make my decision to buy it without thinking. Yet I kinda feel conflicted on whether the sale was a fair one. 😮
You're right billy i drove like 30+ minutes to a trade center here in michigan and there were dudes there trying to sell games like mario party 64 for $40-$50 and other games alike, I didn't drive 20+ miles to pay ebay prices, I could buy mario party 64 for $40 on ebay which is still over priced and not have to leave my house, plus some of the dudes around here won't drop the price 1 Dollar, They can go fuck themselves as far as i'm concerned, Its sad to say it but i kinda hope people slow down or stop collecting for awhile so these greedy bastards go the fuck away.
The Game Chasers I so agree. Ebay fees are around 30 percent so it's such BS thinking they deserve that much profit. Not to mention gas, packing supplies, printer paper/ink etc.
Luminous Rogue I know I'm in Michigan too some of the people around here selling games are fucking nuts. The guy at Gerbaltar trade center is the worst of them all. He charges more then Ebay. It's as if he looks up the price on Ebay and adds 20%.
I used to hit up the thrift stores myself. Usually wouldn't ever find games, but on one RARE occasion I found a boxed Ducktales 2 for two dollars! I couldn't believe how good of condition it was in! They just thought it was just an old VHS tape which is why it was so cheap. I had no problem just buying it without telling them the value of it, because these people would CONSTANTLY jack prices up if they knew it was worth anything.
LOL Infowars? All I need to read. I didn't mention anything about mens rights so I don't know what you're talking about. I'm sick of Ians white knighting. It's not hard to see.
It doesn't make me look manly. It makes me look smart and up to date on how things really work. Go fuck yourself moron. You can't even have a meaningful debate without slipping into pointless name calling. Go check out InfoWars and yell into a mic like the worlds end. Having fun
Exactly this. What annoys me is the people at the flea markets trying to get full price. I live near a ton of illegals. Because they can't get normal jobs they resell crap at flea markets. They jack the prices up and never sell 90% of their crap because of it. I never feel bad about it. If someone doesn't know. Their loss.
If I was to sell my games at a flea market, I'd check the lowest buy-it-now price on ebay and ask for a few bucks less than that. That's why I don't sell at flea markets.
What bothers me are these vendors who really just have a store. They charge full on retail, they have a permanent location at the flea market. In other words they should open a store but they do it this way to dodge taxes and fees. Now we have a local flea market that unfortunately has a lot of fires that burn down stalls. Guess who are the first people to get on the news and whine that they don't have insurance and are ruined? Yup the same guys that essentially have stores at the flea market. If you want to run a legitimate business then get insured like a legitimate businessman.
XBlueM0ndayX You couldn't me more wrong about that. If you sell something on eBay you need basic computer knowledge, access to a camera, a decent investment of money, and access to some sort of online payment system. That rules out 30-40% of the population right there. Also postage, as you put it, is a HUGE deal. You can't buy a dollar item on eBay because it costs frikkin 6 bucks to ship it. (Unless it's from China, not sure how that works). Flea Markets have their place. It's ok if you don't care for them, but you are kidding yourself if you think they'll ever fritter away into obscurity like the arcades.
Swap meets will never go away. It's more than just buying cheap shit. It's an experience. It's a way to spend half a weekend. Half the fun is not knowing what you'll find.
I once found a Vectrex for $20 at the flea market. At the time, the guy knew what it was worth, but he just wanted to get rid of it. Now, good deals at the flea market are barely even there anymore. Other resellers get there at 6:30, leaving hardly anything good behind.
I've been to a couple flea markets and it's always ebay prices for games that aren't even complete, in good shape etc. I stop going because everyone wants a piece of those big bucks apparently when they don't have shit worth that much. The best deal I got was a 30 dollar game for 15 bucks. That ain't much but beats a lot.
No, there's nothing wrong with paying what the seller is asking. Even if it's well below what it's going for. It's up the the seller to know what they're selling.
Here it is in a nutshelll.... if the game is priced at a damn good deal, don't haggle and insult and person down to lower the price... just pay it. Someone was asking 10 bucks on Melee this past summer, and I paid him what he was asking because it was a good deal. I did not leave him 40 bucks or whatever and walk away...that is kind of strange to do that. And this whole collector/reselling thing makes me groan... I've seen Pat pick up two Toe Jam and Earls... why? C'mon now, it's not that complicated. Flea markets are designed to find bargains in the most part... remember, what you are paying for is not always guarenteed to work... right? Why would I pay retail or close to it with that in mind? At a game store you have trade credit, resurfacing, and the ability to test out the product. At least to the places I've been to.
I think most people know what they have. I only buy when I can get a deal or when the price is at the actual value. Some people want to avoid the hassle of EBay and just unload. Parents or original owners do that. They're smart because they know with their price they can actually move it fast. Meanwhile resellers are stuck with theirs. Its not taking advantage if people want to get rid of it. Sometimes people will do the reverse and ask for outrageous prices. The strangest thing I've encountered are sellers who will sell some items under value and others for over. Or the more valuable item for less and the less valuable item for more lol. That I will never understand. Like they'll sell a bundle of good games for $20 but then ask $40 for a very common one just because its a Mario title.
At the local market their are a few stalls that are their every week selling various games and I know for a fact before they open they go around the car boots and smaller stalls looking to buy and flip games themselves their before anybody else gets a look in which is pretty low
It's all part of the hunt, especially if it's for a personal collection. That said I've let flea market people know about prices before, letting them know games were going for a lot more online. The response has almost always been to give it to me at the asking price. Most of the time if you see something priced like that, they're just looking to get rid of it. And while they might appreciate the honesty, they still just want to get rid of it. If they didn't they would be selling elsewhere for more instead of at a flea market where their product is much less likely to sell for anything other than a very low price. Most people have access to the Internet and can look up the price of things before they sell them if they want to come up with a fair price that's closer to retail, but then nobody at a flea market would buy from them. It's also worth noting that flea markets and garage sales are a risk which warrant lower prices. The games may not even work and you're not getting your money back.
I did a Cregslist deal with someone on some SNES games, they were CIB and priced cheepish ($7-$15 each) The games included Super Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Double Dragon V. I went to get them, the seller did mention checking eBay for the value, but did not realize they were worth more with the box an manual. I did just smile and nod when she was mentioning the eBay prices and kept that info to my self. I don't feel bad, I am only buying them from you on CL for the deal, it was not the best deal, though even if they were cart only, they were not badly priced.
The only time I have noticed deals at Flea Markets is when someone has huge bins full of games. The reason is that a lot of times there is so much to go though that they don't bother with it unless it is a title they know (Mario, Zelda, etc). One time a lady at a flea market (who typically does price each game) hadn't priced some of the games yet when I came up and offered $35 for 8 NES games she hadn't gone though yet. The reason I offered her that is because the pile had Mega Man 2, Ducktales, Metroid, Chip & Dale, TMNT to name a few. Another one that I remember was a Japanese PS2 for $20 from a re-seller, who was selling normal PS2s for $70. These days, you have to just grab it if you know what you are getting. From what Pat & Ian said, these people who take care of you don't really exist anymore since eBay & Smart Phones exist.
Here is my thing: if I see a copy of Power Stone 2 on some guys table and ask "how much do you want for this game?" And he says $5, I am going to give the man $5 and walk away with a great deal. He dictated the price, not me. He could have researched the game and found out it is actually worth around $70, but didn't. Not my fault. That goes with any game no matter how valuable.
I'm a vendor at a huge flea market and the biggest vendor at this place. I sell tools. New and used. Good brands and shitty ones. I try to give deals as much as I can but I also have to make a profit on my investment.
You don't HAVE to. You want to certainly, but sometimes the prices are too high. I'm not speaking about you or anything, but when I go to flea markets(Houston area) it's normally really over priced and they look at you like you're crazy when you try to haggle. Some are different than others.
teamhex My prices are good compared to some place like autozone. Plenty of loyal customers who send there friends over and not to be racist but a shit ton of Mexicans comes to but tools as well. They love my place. But other vendors around here can be overpriced. I tend to not but games or anything from there but every now and then I will find something good. I'm in Louisiana
You guys are missing the point, if autozone bought up all the rare parts and it was say illegal to make said parts lol. then tripled the price well then you're going to say holy shit i can triple my money too, you see. its not your fault a huge company is doing that and monopolizing the market. by the way selling tools is totally different how often do you get a guy at your vender saying OMG you have that super rare Screwdriver lol
Deals are deals. Without the time and effort put into selling, the seller shouldn't and usually doesn't feel like they are taken advantage of. The responsibility doesn't fall on to the buyer to educate the seller. I agree with Pat. Deals are usually attributed to extra effort and time spent by the buyer in order to save money. The seller will never sell their goods at prices they would cry over.
this happened to me not to long ago. i saw a guy who was never there before im guessing a first timer. he had some games and i looked over them i picked out 4 ps1 titles and they were around a 8 to 10 each if i went to a store he said 2 dollars and i said "man ill give you ten" he excepted it and when i came back i bought the sports dreamcast system for 15 games with the box no inserts for 30
Flea Markets are supposed to be about recycling, a way of clearing your attic/basement/garage of subjectively useless junk that you would have thrown away otherwise and you should price it thereafter. Otherwise I would appreciate it if you just opened a store or eshop somewhere, that way less taxes would be ignored to.
while not flea markets when i had some of the rarer games i would always sell them for a fair price i would not want to rip off anyone. Had a few saturn games astra superstars/panzer dragoon saga/radiant silver gun and i sold them them a little bit more then what i bought them for which was many years later i sold them
I totally wish there were flea markets here in Sweden :( Everything is really expensive! Hard to get any deals whatsoever :P Btw your podcast is sick! =) Greetings from Sweden!
TalesOfGamerz i know right, I'm from Finland so it's not that much different. But my point was that whatever you call them (flea market, loppis, kirppis), they exist here in scandinavia to. What I would like to see here more tho is "garage sales".
"I'm so jaded and cynical and on a whole other level and above everyone and everything sucks and everyone is stupid and full of crap and it's my place to call everyone out on their bullshit......but don't you fucking dare point out that I made a tiny insignificant mistake." **rolls eyes**
Yea, last year I went to this shitty small game store and I asked an employee if they had any dreamcast games, and he says yes I think we do, let me go look in the back room. So he does that and pulls out some dreamcast games with cracked cases and the the disc were scratched. Then He goes on his fucking laptop and gives me the buy it now eBay prices for each of them. So I tell him, I'll pass and left and never came back.
My local game shop usually charges no more than 5 for common NES games, like 2 dollars for Atari games, $10 or less for controllers, they even sell Neo Geo MVS games
I was at the Swap Meet in downtown San Diego. One woman sold me a NES (came with a game, zapper, controller, and a cheap AC adapter). Doesn't work. It was thirty dollars. Shows a constant purple screen despite me disabling the lockout chip and cleaning it up...
I had this same problem after taking an NES apart and replacing the connector, turns out when I replaced the loading mechanism I tightened the front screw too much, after loosening them a bit the system worked.
SensibleGaming hmm do you get the problem using both an rf adapter and rca cables? Any loose connections on the PCB board, loose wires in the plugs that connect to the PCB, evidence of blown capacitors, damage to the video module?
Honestly I think its probably the video module itself thats damaged and if I remember right its soldered directly to the main board so if that is the problem the system is pretty much junk unless you're good with a solder gun and can manage to find a spare module somewhere or are willing to cannibalize a working console's video module as a replacement which makes no sense so yeah. :P
question to CUPodcast: I have been in business activities, and i wanted to trade in NES games to launder some of the funds i generated in some of these schemes, good idea/bad idea... ?
you have to get there as a vendor it seems to get a good deal. cause the other vendors are walking around looking for deals to resell before its open to the public
Personally in my experience I have found nes and other retro titles pretty cheap. Granted I have not been to many flea markets , but pawn shops and retro game stores. A bought a copy of Top Secret Episode (Golgo 13) for about 3-4 bucks and I even said to the guy at the counter that it was a some what gem. Pawn shops in my area tend to have good deals due I guess not caring. I also have picked up many at my local game shop (The Video Game Story, no seriously that's the name) for around three bucks. Granted that place mostly has sport games, but I was able to find Excitebike and a duckhunt Manuel there. I did by 50 dollars once to a friend for a box of assorted games that had nes titles like Mario 3 and Friday the 13th. Also the box had an Nes Statelite and a Sega Dreamcast which I was excited to find. But yeah those are my experiences I have general had luck in finding deals but in my area of PA is really easy although I have heard stories of some resellersat a flea market charging a lot for games.
The one time something like this came up in my life, a guy was selling a watch and some consoles at a yard sale. He priced the watch to me at like 5 bucks and an NES at 10, I thought that the total value of all of it was like $50, maybe $30 for the NES and $20 for the watch. It turned out NES consoles were worth, even at the time, $60+ and the watch was worth... $400. Did I feel guilty about it? Yeah, little bit, but at the time I had no intention of ripping him off. He named prices, I thought I was getting a little bit of a deal but I wound up making a ton of money on the watch and getting a bargain-priced NES (which I still own and play). At times like those I'm just thankful for my luck.
There is a question I'm sure you answered a ton of time, but I never found it on the comments (I didn't dig them): why the camera on Ian is so blurred compared to Pat one?
I don't do horribly with games at flea markets, but market has run dry. I've done better with record albums and other memorabilia. In the past I picked up a Beatles Yesterday and Today "butcher cover" for $1 despite my dad blurring it out it was worth way more, the guy simply didn't care. I also got a signed Yes album for $1 and a signed Jethro Tull album for 25 cents. That and I managed to get official WWF signed photos of Razor Ramon and Owen Hart for $5 each.
As a former eBay PowerSeller (jeremyaudio), I can tell you time is money. You try to sell as much inventory as fast as possible. Since most flea market sellers don't take the time to look up the completed auctions search option in eBay on every single item, they take a loss on some of their sales. It's as simple as that. If you're not going to make the effort to see how much your products are worth before you price them you shouldn't get the full value upon the sale. That's the beauty of eBay. All of my auctions were No Reserve starting at $0.01 and the people themselves picked the prices, not me.
I spent 65.00 For a boxed nes, New in box Manic Mansion, Tecmo Superbowl, A NES Star Trek game, a bunch of Atari systems, And a about 40-45 games. I asked him how much he wanted, he said 65.00. He was happy, and I was happy.
I don't know if this is a dick move but i usually go on craigslist and flea markets and other places and buy say like beatles albums and i keep the ones i want but i buy good ones to resell to fund me for expanding on my record and video game collections, is this bad or is it good because i am paying what they ask for, any opinions?
at the end of the day its not your problem that they dont know how much something is worth.if everyone ended up tellin ppl how much certain stuff is worth, nobody would make any money?..they had the chance to research the item for an average value before selling but they couldnt be bothered, so its their loss:)
There is a difference between capitalists and corporatism. I think what he is doing is fine to an extent but say you own a corporation that goes and buys up everything lol then sells it at their set price, they even come up with their own pricing charts (JJGames) that other lone businessmen follow cuz your a successful corporation, filter that into you stock estimates = CRASH?
XBlueM0ndayX Lol, you sound like socialist Eurotrash. You're seriously worried about overinflation? If somebody pays the asking price for those Beatles albums, how in the hell is that your problem? You're just upset because you didn't get the deal from the person selling it for cheap. If a buyer voluntarily pays X amount of money for an item, high or low, that's NOT your problem! How does that affect you, or anybody else? It's a contract between two parties, not the entire economy.
NOPE!!! i wouldnt say a thing. like you said if they dont do there research thats there fault. if its a video game, painting, watch or anything i would scoop it up. there loss
I remember a fair few years ago around the time the "im such a nerd i bought a NES i never use xD" crowd showed up prices skyrocketed and never stopped. I remember my first example was a guy selling a Zelda NES cart and he said "its £120, see its got a gold case innit? ebay says its rare" and i kept walking but a stereotypical "hipster" for lack of a less tired term went right up and bought it saying it would "look so cool and lame on my shelf". Some people just dont know and theres far more of them than not and sadly i feel you take what you can get because there ARE people pushing up most retro stuff to insane prices so the deals are rarer by the day. Makes me feel like an old man bitching about kids on my lawn but man do i miss the days of finding some great stuff that doesnt cost more than a brand new vita or 3ds with a game or two.
would be cool to have people phone in and ask questions and pat and ian answer them on the podcast. would be cool i think it would raise the amount of volume of view, make the pod cast more interesting and would be fun to hear some nerdy banter.
imo, it's a seller's responsibility to check their own prices and have at least a basic knowledge of what they're selling. If I see a Little Samson or something like that for $5 somewhere, I'm going to pick it up for that price without any problem.
I guess I'm lucky because where I live we don't have flea markets but we do have lots of garage sales in the summer. When I do find games most of the time it's middle aged or older folks selling their kids old games and they just don't give a shit what it's worth ;p Honestly it's usually PS2 era or onward I find most often now though. Still you will find the odd box of older stuff here and there.
Their views isn't comparable. Ian's view is as a fair and decent seller and Pat's is the lucky buyer. Both answers are right in their own way. I get that Ian wants to extend the same courtesy to the sellers as he gives his customers, its a question about professional honor. As well as I get that one man's trash is another man's gold.
Man, I cannot imagine a seller at my flea market EVER leaving money on the table. At least around here, the flea market for used games is eBay minus shipping. The smartphone has killed the deal.
hey guys I'm not really a collector but I like buying cheap fun snes and n64 games but i don't know where to look, and have really done it through eBay where im getting meh deals at best. I live in the burbs and we have no flea market, rarely garage sales and all the pawnshops and goodwills sell games way over eBay prices, and am really just looking for games in general not specifics (I've kept all my favorites from when I was a kid)
Never feel bad about paying the listed price at flea markets. Sometimes I'll throw something extra if it's a seller I deal with often, but it's their fault for not doing research. Plus when flea market prices are close to ebay aren't worth it. Ebay items are tested, and have return policys.
In my opinion it's up to what the seller does. If the game have a price on it, games at the same price across the board, or you ask they how much they want for and give you a price. I don't feel bad because that is the price they are okay with selling the game. However if I ask how much the game is and they say "Make me an offer", I will more likely give them a price closer to the real price so I don't feel like I ripped them off. Also if they list a price and I don't agree with it I will haggle or bundle in order to get a better deal. All in all it's a flea market not a feel market.
if it's within 50% of market prices it's just a good deal to me, and I haven't really seen anything lower than that very often. I got a boxed complete copy of myst with the strategy guide for buck once, but that's about it. if someone was selling a pokemon cart for 3 bucks though I'd probably be inclined to throw 15 bucks on the table and run like hell with it
I'm with Pat. If someone has a stack of SNES games for 3 dollars, and there's an Earthbound and a Chrono Trigger in there, I'm gonna buy 'em. That's what they are asking for them, that's what I'm gonna pay for them. They don't have 200 bucks invested in those games like a game store does, they probably have a dollar in them and are just trying to get rid of them. I'll happily oblige. I've found a few good deals this way. A Swordquest Waterworld tossed into a dollar bin. Am I gonna buy it for a dollar? Fuck yes, I'm gonna. No dishonesty here at all, just paying what they're asking for something.
i have learned with the smart phone saturated world and have adapted to never tell another seler at a flea market a thing they want money and will tryto argue ebay prices for a 2 marked games cause i offwerd ten bucks and cause it was a 25 dollar game first and only time lol now in a private sell i keep it fare but i let them know im there to get wholesale or below iuse trade in credit with the extras i do not want to pay for any game over a hundred
There are no flea markets in Japan. Japan's 2nd hand market are recycle shops. Most have some kind of data base where they check the price. Many times the prices are reasonable and things are often mispriced because of lack of knowledge (eg. Clerk searches a HORI n64 mini controller as a normal n64 controller). And if you are brave, you can dive through overflowing junk bins and try and find a bargain. On my channel I do hunting at these stores, check it out!
Those recycle shops are given most of that stuff. The stuff not worth anything is just trashed. If you really want deals use Yahoo auctions or just ask people if they have any old stuff. Most Japanese people are more than willing to give away stuff taking up their precious space.
Your name is Tokyo Goomba and you are saying there are no flea markets in Japan? Tokyo has a huge flea market man. More than one I think, but I only had the chance to visit one. You won't find much American video games but you'll find super famicom games easily at 100 yen ($1) to 500 yen ($5). The flea market that I went to where I bought a few dragon ball z super famicom super famicom games, and a yu yu hakusho super famicom game, all except one of them was 100 yen, I shit you not, they came with the boxes and two came with the booklet as well as the box. The flea market that I went to was Oi Racetrack Flea Market, that flea market was huge, it had at least 500+ vendors. I actually bought an awesome bokken there too. It was awesome, I saw all kinds of cool merchandise that I never see at other flea markets, mainly due to the flea market being in Japan, but some of the stuff I can remember off the top of my head aside from the video games were a real opium pipe, tengu and oni masks, ocarinas of all sorts, samurai armor in a full set, samurai armor in individual pieces, like a helmet or han kote, (gauntlets) jutte, (weapon carried by edo period law enforcement officals) and a bunch of other stuff that that I can't recall off the top of my head, as well as all the usual flea market merchandise, clothes, random this and that stuff. If you live in or close to Tokyo, I highly suggest checking the place out tokyOgoomba, it is in the Shinagawa ward of Tokyo.
mokeimusic yahoo is ok and i have got some good stuff on it but you can never get rare or popular games that cheap. you suggest i knock on doors and ask ppl for their junk?
If I went to a Flea Market and saw NES games for $5 each and found Contra, I'd pick it up, but I'd also pay $5 for a couple more games that should only be priced at a couple bucks and that are probably not going to sell that way it all even outs.
I think if they knowingly priced it at the label price, I will buy it and will be visibly excited because I am getting a good deal. Most cases you're taking games off peoples hands they don't want and have been sitting there for years ( In most cases when good games are priced epic) Just a thought guys! -Ty
In the UK we call them car boot sales, we also have resellers but they dont really bother me (as i can spot them a mile off and avoid them like the plague). What really does my head in is stalls and pitches where the seller has maybe heard retro gaming is a growing market and thinks a super mario bros 3 cart is worth £20. I usually just shake my head....or fist and walk off, seriously if these people want e-bay prices sell your games on e-bay if not gimmie a good deal, these people know nothing and are pushing up prices certainly here in th UK.
If you find a game with a good deal, do you still try to talk them down somewhat? Sometimes if you dont they will think something and look it up, change it and give you an ebay price.
If someone has priced an item, I am going to just buy it. I do think that trying to haggle down the price of something that is already a steal is a little slimy. When a game is $20+ and they have a $5 price tag don't try to talk them down to $3, just give them the $5 and be happy. If people ask me to make an offer I make reasonable offers, usually starting around 25% to 35% of ebay
How much you want? "$5 sir" I'll take it. Scored! If someone says "make me an offer" I tend to cringe a little on the inside cause it is hard for me to rip someone off. But if they tell me what THEY WANT... well, so be it.
If a seller doesn't care enough to find out the value of a game, then I'd assume their perfectly happy with whatever price they slap on it. If I pay them their asking price I'll get something I want and in return they get something they want. I don't see a problem with that. Although if they do have something outrageous say Earthbound for 5 bucks.. I might hint at some semblance of value and that they might want do some research.
Maybe 15 years ago I'd have felt guilty because the seller may not have had the internet or just didn't know where to go to find out how much this stuff is worth. In 2015? Sorry if you price your games super low that's entirely your fault and I'm going to take advantage of your lack of research. You can't move without the internet in your face and online resources are a mere google search away. If you can't be bothered to do that to set your prices, hooray for me.
funny how at 2:05 ian is rolling his eyes at pat...pat is completely right but ive noticed the last few videos Ian has been very negative at any subject that has been brought up or even anything pat has said
The flea markets around where i live have really nice people who do know their game prices but will make a deal. Yesterday i went to a flea market and found a Metroid cart with the black sleeve for 20 bucks and a Tengen Ms. Pac Man for 15. The guy running the booth gave me 15 bucks off, just because he was being a nice guy. I got ms pac man for free, I dont like to haggle, because im afraid to start confrontation and i want to give people a fair amount for their stuff, but if I see something like Super Mario Bros for like 30 bucks, I might call the vendor out on it.
I identified a butcher album for a guy who was selling it for 30 bucks once at a flea market. I could have bought it but I didn't, because maybe that guy needed the money, I didn't so who cares.
Finding deals is half the fun. They put the price on it, not me. If they slap a generic $5 price tag on every game from the same system, that's his decision. If he doesn't like it, he should do more research to figure out the worth of each game. I'm simply paying what he wants me to pay. Me knowing what it's worth honestly doesn't matter when he's happy as he's getting what he's asking. And frankly, most people now-a-days know what stuff is worth. No deals are really to be had anymore, so when you get one, you take it.
Just buy it. Bought Aero Fighters SNES for $12, Hagane SNES for $4, both from same place, i regret nothing. If you say something, sure i guess they might still give you the same deal or raise it a few bucks, but they also might go all ebay on your ass, and say goodbye to your deal.
I thought the whole point of scouring flea markets for older or rare games is in hopes to find them for really cheap. Otherwise I might as well use Ebay. If the seller really cared about an item's value, they'd bother to research before they decided on a price, so I would feel no guilt whatsoever.
Here in the Philippines, I visited some second-hand shops and acquired some sweet deals. Of note are some Japanese music CDs as well as a copy each of Arc the Lad 1 and Chrono Cross. Each CD sold for only around $1.
I am a reseller and I do not feel guilty getting a good deal from someone. I feel like everybody is looking out for themselves in this world and I am not making thousands of dollars a month or anything. Also I sincerely love what I do. I love buying vintage toys and current ones and selling them. I surprisingly find a lot of great deals at Goodwill. I have bought stuff there for 5 dollars and sold it for 100. I am always researching other items to branch out into selling a wider variety of things. I know other resellers that try to convince people at yard sales to lower the price but I do not waste my time with that. If I am buying a lot of items then I do work on trying to convince the person to lower, but if it's one item I just move on. This last summer, this guy for 100 dollars was trying to sell me a few ps2 games, a ps2, an xbox, and an NES. He said he tested them and they worked but they were just in a box so I need to have the attitude of he may be lying or he may just remember it working and they don't now etc. And I asked to have him lower the price he said no way. I said that is too much so I won't buy them. A couple of yard sales later for 65 dollars I got a lot better deal then that. A few controllers, an xbox a ps2, hookup cables, lots of games like at least 30 games, a couple of dvds, 3 board games, a vulcan nerf gun (they are worth about 160 used) plus accessories, a large blue nerf gun plus accessories (worth about 60) and just misc stuff. I wanted so badly to go to the previous guy and tell him about it. It was my find of the day. That is also a good lesson on not having empty handed syndrome. Where you gotta buy something because you feel upset you are not finding anything you really want. It's better to leave with no regrettable purchases then leave and regret what you bought on impulse. Also the kid was thrilled to get 65 dollars. He was a geeky 20 year old and could of listed the items himself. I do not feel bad about it. And my wisdom and gut instinct is part of how I earn my money. I do not get lucky I earn my money through determination and research and of course the willing to risk my money buying items, and the actual listing and shipping part.
XBlueM0ndayX I am poor I benefit too but in a different way. And it would be stupid to walk into any store and insist to pay 20 dollars for a 5 dollar item. I have heard of so many Goodwills that sell on Ebay themselves and so what they put on the shelves is picked over and it's not the good stuff. I am grateful my Goodwill puts out great stuff. And I tell the cashier I am selling items and they are happy for me. I feel again, if I don't buy it and benefit, then someone else will. And some days I think wow if I had 500-1000 dollars I could buy so much stuff. I just buy enough to give me work for the next week or two. Because that is all the money I have and sometimes I am just satisfied getting 5 really great items, a few smaller priced items, and perhaps a couple of things for myself. And also if I sell an item for 100 dollars, after shipping I make about 60. I do not make 100 dollars.
Goobian Don't even waste your time with this Blue Monday guy, he's completely unaware. If a seller voluntarily prices something for $5, that's their choice, and it's on them if they priced it too low. The buyer is agreeing to the seller's terms, the buyer doesn't have any obligations to do the research and work for the other guy, that's absurd. Just by walking into that store you're helping build the economy and supporting your community anyways. Keep on keeping on with your selling man, it's a fun hobby. It doesn't pay a whole lot, but I definitely enjoy learning something new everyday
gaz mcneil I do this as a full time job. When I become a mother I will have the satisfaction in knowing my job is flexible around their schedule. Also a point I forgot before is sometimes they price things too high. It's almost retail price or retail. So they go both ways. They had the nicest furniture the last time I went. Solid Oak furniture. Someone must of died and their whole living room was donated. I wanted to buy it all and put it in storage to sell.
Goobian Good for you. There's nothing wrong with making a living. I support a wife and son on one income. My wife has a physical disability and it's hard for her to find work. Sometimes, my income from my job is not enough. What has gotten us through is my video game hobby. I go to goodwill stores, thrift stores, yard sales, and the like to look for video game related stuff. I keep what I like and sell the rest of it. For example, I once bought a a Digimon PS1 game at a Goodwill for 50 cents. I do not like Digimon at all, but it sells for 70-80 bucks. I put it on ebay for 50 dollars and sold it very quickly (20 minutes). I have zero problem with doing this. If I buy a game or a system used, I'm taking a risk that it will not work. I cannot take it back and ask for my money back because goodwill stores and the like don't work that way. I've just lost that money. So, by doing this, I have helped support my family and get to collect some retro video game systems and games that I like. Don't let anybody tell you that it's wrong for you to provide for your family by doing something you love, have fun doing, and are passionate about.
Rebel Scum I appreciate every item that I sell. I do not take it for granted. Sometimes a customer emails me saying how happy they were to find that item. That makes me really happy and it makes the bad parts of the business worth it. I am a nostalgia geek and like you I made my hobby my job. I love cleaning up vintage toys, taking pictures of them. I love buying vintage household products and kitchen items. I love buying leather jackets because they are worth at least 70 dollars or more regardless of brand. I love buying t-shirts with vintage graphics on them. Advertising stuff is awesome too with logos that are dated. I could be having the worst day ever but a trip to Goodwill comforts me and gives me a boost of energy. I could go to thrift stores all day long.
I could care less if someone sells a valuable game for less than it goes for, I'll buy it and not say a word. Their fault for not doing research. :P My mama didn't raise no fool! lol
The price is not a problem if you find somenthing worth 100 $ and the dude sell it for 5 $ buy and stfu. Why rip yourself off ? i dont get hipsters at all.....
If I find a barging I usaly know what the price is and pay alittle more. Like is the game 5dollars and easly worth 30 I would pay 10... The people dont know in the end and you make them happy. Then there is the times when there is a steal. And I dont have that experience...
Action 52 is god awful, the only reason i'd pick that up would be to resell it anyway. I don't get people who buy shitty games just to have a full collection.
Whats the problem with good deals at the flea market?? Just like Pat said, you don´t get up at 6 in the morning to pay eBay prices. You make those deals to grow your collection or swap games for other ones you want and that are too expensive. I got some really good deals on the flea market like a Game & Watch CrabGrab Color CIB for 2€ or Chikyuu Kaihou Gun ZAS for the Gameboy for 1€. I don´t feel bad for buying that stuff, It feels really good to find such things on a flea market and add these treasures to your collection. Some times you go to dozens of flea markets without finding anything, that happens too. Yeah there were times when I paid this kid a little more than he was asking for, because he didn´t know what he had, I don´t have a problem with that. But if you don´t buy these deals, who will? Most likely some scumbag resellers just to flip them for money. So don´t feel bad people, you earned those treasures. Greetings from Germany!
You can get some information about it here: nintendo.wikia.com/wiki/Crab_Grab It´s a Game & Watch, so most of them are not as much fun as they were back in the days but still enjoyable. More the collectors items nowadays ;)
how did I miss that I was on the Nintendo wiki earlier and could not find it thanks for the link. as I just got ball and was looking up its history for the other games. would your recommend it or any other game and watch's as I am starting to collect them.
To be honest, I only have 2 of them as they are very rare and hard to find in the wild. If you are willing to spend the money, you can get them on eBay, starting somewhere at 50$. But as I said, for me the Game & Watchs are more of a collectors item nowadays. If you want to play something, you´re better off buying games for some other systems like SNES or NES. You will have more fun with these. Still, as a collector, it´s nice to have them as they are a piece of Nintendo history.
I have both a nes and a snes( good snes games are so sought after in England though so there very expensive)and love them. I guess I could be considered a game collector with about 2,500 games on multiple systems but I buy them to play not to own. I pick them up when I see them cheap and have donkey Kong, octopus, parachute , and super Mario bros which has been in my family since it came out. the thing is with these handhelds is you don't get the experience with emulation like Atari 2600. thanks for the information and keep on gaming
So 60% of Ebay prices? :P
I love how fiery Ian gets when Pat corrects his grammar, I mean it's not like we've ever seen Ian do that to Pat...
Having fun
Flea markets are for bargains not full price. If I wanted to pay full price I wouldn't go to a flea market. So yes Pat is absolutely right.
XBlueM0ndayX
You couldn't me more wrong about that.
I bought a copy of Conker's Bad Furday for $3 at a flea market.
So did I, but it was the Xbox remake
Wolfi That's still an awesome find. My best deal was getting Qix for a dollar. While I love the game, it's no Conker.
grandia 2 for a buck!
i got SimCity 2000 Network Edition for $1 complete in box. You can't even find that on eBay
Red Box Complete MGS3:Subsistence for $10 at a pawn shop around 2009-ish, I believe.
Ian: "come at me you pieces of shit" : had me dying ; lol
No, there's nothing wrong with paying what the seller is asking. Even if it's well below what it's going for. It's up the the seller to know what they're selling.
i buy it its there fault for not doing research on it
Ah ha! You sneaky son of a bitch!
And even if they found out what its worth they would never find you.
agreed I just picked up a copy of ball boxed for £50 the person was to lazy to do 10 seconds of research.
Your NES game wasn't good......
When I was 10 years old I enjoyed playing the Waldo NES game over and over again. Didn't have many options or know what a bad game was back then.
Some are different than others.
teamhex
My prices are good compared to some place like autozone. Plenty of loyal customers who send there friends over and not to be racist but a shit ton of Mexicans comes to but tools as well. They love my place. But other vendors around here can be overpriced. I tend to not but games or anything from there but every now and then I will find something good. I'm in Louisiana
Yeah its a profit deal, you're not there for the conversation.
Luminous Rogue
I have a super rare screwdriver that gives you plus 3 to stamina and plus 2 to speed and auto heals you... ...wait a minute
Am I the only one here who will still try to barter with the guy even though he has it way lower than the price its worth?
"Just give em the twenty and leave"
Hahaha best part
lol Ian is so bad for giving it out but not being able to take it, lighten up dude Pat is just having a bit of fun :D
Me and my friend had the same discussion a few days ago,I asked what he would do if he found stadium events for £1 and the seller was sweet old lady.
What's going on the the arms on the guy on the left? I'm just curious.
while not flea markets when i had some of the rarer games i would always sell them for a fair price i would not want to rip off anyone. Had a few saturn games astra superstars/panzer dragoon saga/radiant silver gun and i sold them them a little bit more then what i bought them for which was many years later i sold them
I totally wish there were flea markets here in Sweden :(
Everything is really expensive! Hard to get any deals whatsoever :P
Btw your podcast is sick! =)
Greetings from Sweden!
I'm sure you got some flea markets there to. Maybe not during winter but in summer yes.
They exist. We call them "loppis". Mostly it's just garbage tho. Kid's trash from 5-6 years ago or stuff that old people like.
TalesOfGamerz i know right, I'm from Finland so it's not that much different. But my point was that whatever you call them (flea market, loppis, kirppis), they exist here in scandinavia to. What I would like to see here more tho is "garage sales".
Har du aldrig hört om loppmarknader pojk?
TerminatorJesse I visit the goodwill stores regularly. If I've found anything nice it was there I found it.
"I'm so jaded and cynical and on a whole other level and above everyone and everything sucks and everyone is stupid and full of crap and it's my place to call everyone out on their bullshit......but don't you fucking dare point out that I made a tiny insignificant mistake."
**rolls eyes**
Even if I go into a retro game store and they start looking up ebay prices and wanting the same rate. I am walking out the door and never coming back.
M. Oliver I did tighten the screws quite a bit, but it showed a purple screen both times. Before and after I had taken it apart.
SensibleGaming hmm do you get the problem using both an rf adapter and rca cables? Any loose connections on the PCB board, loose wires in the plugs that connect to the PCB, evidence of blown capacitors, damage to the video module?
Both video connectors do the same thing. I don't see anything that looks blown, but what should I look for?
I got Jaws and Knight Rider CIB at a flea market in the mid-2000's for about $8-10.
I feel compelled to tell someone in situations like these, just to stop pesky resellers from striking
Just a different camera in our set-up. Pat points the fancy one at his dimples.
XBlueM0ndayX
Lol, you sound like socialist Eurotrash.
Thanks for all the replies, and i was just wondering because I don't want to be consider an A-hole you know
+xbluem0ndayx i dont sell it for full retail i usually go about 10 to 20 dollars less
NOPE!!! i wouldnt say a thing. like you said if they dont do there research thats there fault. if its a video game, painting, watch or anything i would scoop it up.
I've gotten both a PS3 and a Wii for $5 each at the same flea market, not the same day however that would have been incredible.
I bought a copy of Secret of Mana for 80 pesos which is about 4 dollars in a Mexican flea market.
Where is the new fleemarkets videos ????
hahah It's the Grammar police. Good show guy's.
So..... When the NWC cart came to Luna Video Games. Ian was like, "Are you sure?"
I got ghosts and goblins for £3.33 about $5/6 off ebay and the shipping was only £8 about $10
Never feel bad about paying the listed price at flea markets.
I got a boxed complete copy of myst with the strategy guide for buck once, but that's about it. if someone was selling a pokemon cart for 3 bucks though I'd probably be inclined to throw 15 bucks on the table and run like hell with it
I once got zombie nation on the NES for five bucks and the guy who sold me it knew most of his merchandise, but for some reason not this game.
I haven't gone to a flea market in a long time, but if we both reached an agreement on a price, I don't see what the problem is.
i have learned with the smart phone saturated world and have adapted to never tell another seler at a flea market a thing they want money and will tryto argue ebay prices for a 2 marked games cause i offwerd ten bucks and cause it was a 25 dollar game first and only time lol now in a private sell i keep it fare but i let them know im there to get wholesale or below iuse trade in credit with the extras i do not want to pay for any game over a hundred
How did Pat meet Frank?
Jeffari1 oh cool, ill check it out. btw i dont live in tokyo anymore, im in kanagawa.
mokeimusic yahoo is ok and i have got some good stuff on it but you can never get rare or popular games that cheap. you suggest i knock on doors and ask ppl for their junk?
I buy it 100%. It is just as easy for them to check the value on Google as it is for me.

Repertoire Rep, oh, twah. The R after the T should be almost silent. Like when a British dude adds an R out of nowhere.
"$5 sir"
I'll take it.
Scored!
If someone says "make me an offer" I tend to cringe a little on the inside cause it is hard for me to rip someone off. But if they tell me what THEY WANT... well, so be it.
Is it just me, or does the video & sound de-sync halfway through the recording?
You buy it guilt free, that's the price they asked and that's the logical luck.
funny how at 2:05 ian is rolling his eyes at pat...pat is completely right but ive noticed the last few videos Ian has been very negative at any subject that has been brought up or even anything pat has said
The flea markets around where i live have really nice people who do know their game prices but will make a deal.
Pat's audio is out of sync lol
Just buy it. Bought Aero Fighters SNES for $12, Hagane SNES for $4, both from same place, i regret nothing.
If you say something, sure i guess they might still give you the same deal or raise it a few bucks, but they also might go all ebay on your ass, and say goodbye to your deal.
Do your researxh before selling, thats all i have to day, if i find conker for 5 bucks, thats great for me
Resellers blow. But then again, I don't like getting expensive stuff for dirt cheap from unaware sellers.
Goobian
Don't even waste your time with this Blue Monday guy, he's completely unaware.
My mama didn't raise no fool! lol
The price is not a problem if you find somenthing worth 100 $ and the dude sell it for 5 $ buy and stfu. Why rip yourself off ? i dont get hipsters at all.....
I still respect people who are willing to do it just to not screw the sellers, that's some Jesus stuff right there.
If I found a good deal super under priced, I don't give a fuck, I'll rip them off if I can, less money spent for me. :D
Lol
If I find a barging I usaly know what the price is and pay alittle more.
Like is the game 5dollars and easly worth 30 I would pay 10... The people dont know in the end and you make them happy.
Then there is the times when there is a steal. And I dont have that experience...
Action 52 is god awful, the only reason i'd pick that up would be to resell it anyway.
I don't get people who buy shitty games just to have a full collection.
i thought he had t-rex arms
What's this ball game that's worth a thousand bucks?
You guys kept saying rapor. It's actually RAPPORT. With a T at the end.
raptor
Buy it. Period. If the seller didn't do their research, it's their loss. If I wanted to pay full price I'll just buy on Ebay.
Greetings from Germany!
is the game and watch crab grab any good I haven't been able to find much information on it
You can get some information about it here:
nintendo.wikia.com/wiki/Crab_Grab
It´s a Game & Watch, so most of them are not as much fun as they were back in the days but still enjoyable.
Lets put it this way if pat buys a game and knows the price every time he would have to tell them full price and that is bull.
Ian you're fucking awesome buddy...hahahahaga.. come at me you pieces of shit..hahahahagagagag yaaahhh!!!
