the fame monster is a 10/10, its a literal perfect album, no skips at all
Monster
It’s hard to disagree. I wanna give it like a 9.5. Very few pop albums sound better
So...teeth is not a skip?
i could live without Teeth and Speechless being there, so that's 6 out of 8 songs
@@EntrEsprit the fame monster is the entire album, both sides
Crazy how not a single Prince album was mentioned
it is also like a one minute short
Purple Rain is a masterpiece
theres only 5 answers here
I wouldn't consider Prince to be "pop," since he uses everything from soul to rock.
@@azalago True but he does have some pop
EMOTION by Carly Rae Jepsen deserves to be in the honorable mentions at the very least, complete record from front to back and the B-sides are outstanding
Facts
immaculate album
B sides better but yea
why would you say something so controversial yet so brave
Bruh tell me one time at school one of my hb asked me what i was listening to and i told i wasn't listening to anything i just had my headphones in and he grabs my headphones and puts them on i was so embarrassed and he was so surprised i was listening to Carly rae jepson
my 5 picks for the best pop albums of all time:
1) Purple Rain - Prince
2) Charli - Charli XCX
3) Post - Bjork
4) Hounds of Love - Kate Bush
5) Violator - Depeche Mode
The Charli is great but people need to chill with GOAT allegations. The recency bias is immense and if it’s a top 5/10 to you then imo you should diversify your collection.
I don’t know how Charli XCX is even in the conversation. Purple Rain and Violator yes.
this was already perf and this was pre brat era
You can add brat to that now
how tf u gon add charli xcx in top 5 and NOT fucking MJ?????????? WHEN HE'S LITERALLY CALLED THE "KING OF POP" ?????(no offense to charli tho, love her)
Don't listen to a lot of pop, but here's what I love (not in any order):
Songs From the Big Chair- tears for fears
Purple Rain- Prince and the Revolution
Thriller- Michael Jackson
Pet Sounds- Beach Boys
After Hours- The Weeknd (Not only pop, but it has some pop songs so I count it)
Future Nostalgia- Dua Lipa
Great shouts
Carly Rae Jepsen Emotion!
songs from the big chair is a W
Great choice.
My picks would be:
Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
Nina Simone - Pastel Blues
Bjork - Homogenic
SOPHIE - Pearl of Every Person's Un-insides
Madonna - Ray of Light
Madonna - Confessions on the Dancefloor
Yes to Madonna, although Confessions isn’t as strong as Like a Prayer, Madonna, Like a Virgin, True Blue, Like a Prayer, Erotica, or Bedtime Stories. Yes to Homogenic and Back to Black is as recent as I would go in conversation about greatest albums of all time.
Pastel Blues as pop music?
@@judygillespie3717 I'd say it's traditional vocal pop for the most part.
@@zhenia2511 I would be careful about including traditional pop with modern day pop. They're very different overall. I would also say that Amy Winehouse and Nina Simone were mostly in the area of soul
@@loganburde2838 Pop in every decade sounds different. That's kinda the point. It's what's popular at the time. Soul was popular at the time and Winehouse just made the type of pop that used to be popular once.
Depeche Mode - Violator
The Sundays - Reading, Writing & Arithmetic
Love the Violator pick, but it’s not pop.
@@b00dyc0unt I think it counts as pop :)
loveee the sundays
@@LnRit02 Yay! 'Sup fellow Sundays fan 👋
@@b00dyc0unt everything counts in large amounts
Purple Rain deserves to be on the list. Love Prince now and forever
1999
This is probably a little inside baseball for non-aussies but Kick by INXS takes the cake for me. So many iconic songs and stands up to some of the best pop albums of all time on a single by single basis.
A great album and the sexiest band of all time besides Depeche Mode.
How was Pet Sounds not on there The best pop song of all time is on there
I'd consider it "Pop Adjacent" of its time
Yes... best Pop album ever..
Which is?
@@Nerdz2God Only Knows is what the OP was referring to. And it makes sense. Genius composition. Lyrics aren't the greatest ever, but they work well within a 2 and a half minute song. Paul McCartney said it was one of the best songs, too.
Glad he likes Tears for Fears. I haven’t heard him talk about them before.
Why do you care if he likes it its not stopping you from liking it
@@shocko77 Because it’s normal for someone to like an opinion that agrees with theirs.
@@mr.noride7226 sure
My personal favourite is Dangerous by MJ
FR! Dangerous better then bad, thriller and off the wall
My top three favorite pop albums:
Arca - Kick I
SOPHIE - Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides
The Weeknd - Dawn FM
Gotta love that songs from the big chair take. Every of those 8 tracks are great!!!
For me....Ray Of Light by Madonna ❤
It's So by Peter Gabriel btw
Sweetener By AG
Lorde with Melodrama, just flawless
yes 100%
That's a good record for people who have a hard time sleeping
@@Negativ3_ for ppl who have a hard time sleeping because theyre heartbroken
Violator not being on here is in and of itself a violation
Folks are so right about Fame Monster I havent discovered anything majorly close to that dark eccentric edgy pop other than her own Born This Way album
Help! The Beatles
I’m certain songs from the big chair deserves the title to be honest. Excellent album, a staple of the 80s and still to this day, with some very underrated tracks
Emotion, it’s a classic
"Thriller" has some of the greatest pop songs of all time, but is not a cohesive album. It's just a bunch of great singles smashed together.
Sprout - Steve Mcqueen
The fame monster is the only album that is next to mj in every aspect. Its great and everone loved it, swear to god it had like 10 hits that played everywhere. Its pop, so being big and popular is always a part of it
Michael Jackson?!! Heck NO
Thriller has to be the one, but can’t lie, George Michael’s Faith deserves high praise and can be number 2. You know why? GM literally was only outsold in the 80s by MJ. Plus, that album is massive. The Fame Monster was her best era. Bad Romance is still her biggest moment and universally loved hit. Definitely her best album.
Abbey Road 100%
ABCs Lexicon of Love is my favorite. Literally catchy and excellently produced banger after another. Zero skips.
An amazing album! These kids today have no concept.
its' not without controversy but imo Graceland by Paul Simon is one of the greats.
Paula Abdul- Spellbound is a personal soft spot as far as Pop records go.
the emancipation
I was wondering why Mariah wasn’t on here, or Janet for that matter
1989 and Midnights have gotta be at the top when talking about big pop influences!
Agreed!
We need to be talking about Butterfly by Mariah Carey. She brought it all on that album. Vocals, layering, lyricism, honesty, melodies, production, you name it
1000 forms of fear is goated and underrated
Definitely
Hounds of Love and Thriller
I would say right now Emails I Can’t Send by Sabrina Carpenter. I’ve been listening to that one a lot, I love it, it’s an amazing pop album in my opinion. And I don’t even listen to pop like that. But obviously MJ’s Thriller is dope as fuck, legendary.
The Fame Monster is up there for sure. Every song on that album could be a single.
Then she would have had more than four singles from it. Alejandro wasn’t all that and Dance in the Dark was a single but who knew?
@@taintedlife2618 In fairness to dance in the dark gaga more or less paid that song dust
@@taintedlife2618 Alejandro is easily one of the best pop songs to come out of the 2010’s lol
You should re-do your 'born this way' album review which you did just like chappell's
Still can't believe you uploaded that back then
Hounds of Love
Vespertine
Charli
Sooo Fantano core but big W
What is with people and Vespertine? Debut, Post, and Homogenic, in that order. I would go back to Sugarcubes before I picked Vespertine.
In terms of Pop, in the name, Off the Wall works best since it has Don't stop...enough, and probably turned the world of disco and mo-town to pop from that song.
no gwen stefani is mad
Tapestry - Carole King
Vespertine and Hounds of Love
Some very good picks actually, but my answer would be "Please" by Pet Shop Boys.
No mention of Pet Sounds??
mix & match by odd eye circle
Any of the Quincy Jones Micheal jackson albums take it. Not only are they fantastic but they made pop big as big as rock and set the standard for pop crossovers.
you never lied once but people will never know
Plastic Beach is amazing but I dig Demon Dayz more, and thank you for mentioning Off-the-Wall
Surprised no one mentioned time n place by kero kero bonito cuz it should be talked abt with these albums
1989 is one of my personal favorites.
The only thing that holds back thriller is that the songs have very little to do with each other. Quality wise its basically unmatched so if you just go by songs then yeah, but if you talkin albums its held back a little by that. Bad has less bangers but more cohesion
i understand whatchu mean just like how the song Smooth Criminal and Bad can be correlated because they're describing a character and persona of being a criminal which is in turn Bad but bro Thriller was a blockbuster cmon the album was a tapestry of fusions of funk disco ,pop rock ,post disco ,soft pop ballad(The girl is mine) and also had a song about people in general Human Nature ,vocally lyrically and sonically its a masterpiece also the Hee hees immortalize it
It's Thriller Melon.
It's probabbly pop adjacent but Soda Blonde's Small Talk. The whole album is full or fun songs with dark introspective lyrics
That's hard, I mean you've got Raw Power, Self titled and his solo career with Lust for Life and The Idiot. This is about Iggy Pop right? /j
Sign o’ the times
I second that!
I actually think HIStory is Michael Jackson’s best album, super underrated and while Thriller has more iconic songs on it, HIStory still holds up as an album experience and it also takes a more serious approach with the topics it discusses
Impossible to choose between Velocity design comfort, pet sounds and revolver. All equally fantastic albums
Velocity isn’t the pop I think this was referring to. Abbey road clears revolver, id say that pet sounds and thriller
Kylie Minogue X and Tove Lo Lady Wood imo
Fantanos thriller take is so bad man. Thriller, beat it, billy Jean, p.y.t, and wanna be starting something all on 1 record. Michael is a legend for a reason
If we’re talking POP pop then Teenage dream also a huge contender
Abbey road??????
isnt that rock music bro??>
I've just now realized that one of Tom Segura's first albums had a cover designed after Thriller's 😂
Whitney by Whitney Houston is my second favorite behind thriller
No "Hounds of Love" mention is crazy
As a big MJ fan, I agree with your opinion and I personally think “Bad” is his Magnum Opus (though “Dangerous” is dangerously underrated)
Agreed, Bad and Dangerous are my 2 favourite MJ albums and 2 of my favourite albums of all time (top 20 at least). This is probably a hot take but I think Dangerous may actually edge it 😬
@@Ri5ings0n I don’t think I’ve heard that so often, interesting. I fully respect it though. Dangerous is amazing and has a lot of great songs.
@@nothingimageworks dangerous maybe has his best songs but has more filler than his previous works
@@Nichwar19Good point
Purple Rain!!
For me its Off The Wall without a doubt
Pet Sounds obviously
Rhythm Nation
Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush, easily
Michael Jackson’s *Insert any album here*
progress by take that. i’m sure nobody else will agree but there’s something about that album which i think makes it near perfect if not perfect. brilliant album
One of Michael Jackson's records, if not Thriller in particular. Personally I stan for Violator by DM.
how is Prince not included here???
cause there were only 5 answers
@@Magic7ball and prince should've been one of them honestly
Family jewels by marina
Did no one mention Björk or Kate Bush. Really?
theres only 5 answers here
How to we classify something as "pop" especially anything earlier than the 80s
Thriller ofc
Plz make the tweets with only text a bit bigger, I can barely read them.
So, Peter Gabriel.
Songs in the Key of Life IS the pop record
Blackout
You know I always thought that about Thriller
Michael Jackson - Bad
Off the Wall is the best Michael Jackson album without question in my mind. Thriller as a whole is overrated yet still somehow an all time classic
you sure that Thriller is overrated when it literally defined what pop artists do in music videos and for crossing over??
Sia’s 1000 forms of fear for me
Melodrama 💕
There are artists OUTSIDE of the navel gazing USA. Try looking over the sea too.
Thriller has on it:
Thriller
Billie Jean
Beat It
Human Nature
Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'
PYT
Enough said.
Blackout🖤
YES @ Bad being better than Thriller!! idk why people shit on it all the time but its filler tracks are easily so much more enduring and interesting than the filler tracks on Thriller, for one
The Hurting by Tears for Fears
Bad over Thriller??? Pleasantly surprised.
Merriweather Post Pavilion
Beach Boys -Pet Sounds
Don't ask why but I'd pick hunting high and low from a-ha.
May I ask Why?
Rumors
its Thriller
