None of us put in the time, work, money, and effort that George Lucas did in creating the world he wanted to create. Do I love every movie George has made? No. But having an opinion is where it ends. The only thing that matters is that George was happy with the end product he created. It's his creation after all. Not the fans' creation.

It is if you belong to a few well chosen Facebook groups like my favorite one Star Wars: The Last Jedi Fan Club group, where you can talk about any Star Wars movie, and in particular, the Last Jedi, and there is the "Disney Star Wars fans" group, and again, you can talk about any Star Wars movie without fear, but haters get kicked quickly. I tried the Star Wars general fan groups, where as long as you talk about the OT it's fine, but anyone mentioning Disney, or the Prequelogy gets ruthlessly attacked and driven out and the admins do nothing to stop it, which is why my fan sites choices have been so carefully honed.
All I care about is for the entire Star Wars: Clone Wars micro-series to air on Toonami on Adult Swim for one night only in December.
That is because there are literally thousands of Star Wars fans who will not, under any circumstances, tolerate the original Expanded Universe being called "non-canon". EVER. Not by the powers that be, nor by other fans. *Period.* Disney's so-called "canon" is NOT welcome in our households. We don't want it. We never asked for it. And thanks to The Last Jedi, we are completely rejecting it. It is our desire - our ultimatum - for the original Expanded Universe to be officially recognized again. That is what fans like us want, and it is the ONLY way we will ever be happy with Star Wars again. The sooner that happens, the sooner the bickering will stop.

They’re not the beat but they added a lot to the amazing Star Wars universe as a whole and had some great scenes and epic motions and felt like Star Wars and didn’t shit on the originals unlike the new unoriginal unsipired parody garbage shit that copy’s the ot ripped off the Eu and adds fuck all to Star Wars whilst shitting over the ot at the same time and it’s charcters in particular what they did with Luke my 8 year old niece cried she hated it that much

I'm lucky to of grown up with the prequels. I loved George Lucas for giving me all those cool and fun action scenes and adventures as a kid and now as an adult I love him even more for adding in all those political intrigue and conspiracy scenes.
I'm a Star Wars fan, but I'm almost ashamed to be at this point. The toxicity of the fanbase is just plain overwhelming at this point.

A full comment section declares war against an enemy that's only a minority, and they ignore what the majority has to say because the video and the comment section they think that those two entities are the same thing. I still see it the same way, after reading some of them again for a few minutes. So I can't do anything about it: We've interpreted them in an entirely different way.

In retrospect, that part looks really stupid because it's not a huge problem for the most part, it only becomes one after scrolling down for a while. @@DodgeHEadHoover I think a lot of that comes from the nostalgia of seeing those movies. Almost all of the Star Wars fans grew up with it, and it was a huge part of their childhood. So for them, nothing can live up to the nostalgia of the Original Trilogy/ The Prequel Trilogy. I was once on a poll with what your favourite trilogy is, and majority of them voted for the prequels, and majority of them said in the comments it was because they grew up with the prequel trilogy. But the new trilogy was doomed to fail for the reason that in Star Wars fans' minds, it could never be as good as the other movies that were nostalgic for them. But the problem is, when people get mad at Disney for not living up to their nostalgic memories of Star Wars, when it would be impossible to make a movie that lives up to your childhood memories of The Original Trilogy/The Prequel Trilogy, when in reality that would be impossible, because they have a set biased opinion on it because it was a huge part of them growing up. And I'm not saying that's bad, but then people go so far as to wish they got CANCER for not living up to those memories, and that's when they become toxic fans.

Agreed I love the prequels I realise now as I’m older they do have flaws and the execution and dialogue was a let down especially attack of the clones the only film of the original 6 I knew should’ve been way better. The only things I didn’t like about the prequel trilogy were a few cringe lines, and Anikan and Padmae, (absolutely butchered the name spelling, sorry) unpleasant acting. And yes, even the visual effects were a little cheesy but so what? Aside from all that, I like the prequels just fine. I like them all.

I’m confused by what these people like about Star Wars.
I think those 'fans' that hate this movie should just go back to The Force Awakens and watch on repeat, as they're clearly looking for a hollow, paint by numbers, Star Wars experience. Something I think that The Last Jedi has done in killed the enthusiasm for fan theories, which completely ruined the movie-going experience for the narrow minded who were convinced that Snoke was Darth Plagueis and Rey was a Kenobi or a Palpatine

I think it's because alot of the (toxic) haters lot at the Prequles as the best of SW plus growing up with the clone wars cartoon. That's not me hating on the Prequles but special effects and flashy fighting and force powers over shadowed characters and story telling much more so for movies then CW seires. Yeah! So much stuff to unpack for just one video. Been thinking about doing a whole series of videos covering these topics -- "Politics in Star Wars", "Women in Star Wars" etc.
What about the prequels and there obviously message of political corruption and the failings in democracy. Many of the senate scenes are inspired by the way the government was reacting to 9/11 and the increasing terrorist threats. The clone army thing is suppose to be an allegory to Bush and the controversial patriot act.
Except, as Carl Sagan pointed out, the heroes were as white as cream. So the political message undermines itself by pitting rich white people against bad white people. Kind of a circular message there.

Oh yeah, because film-adapting and re-introducing some non-canonical book is such an original story. That's pretty much hypocritical right there because taking stories from the EU is, ironically, even more unoriginal. I rather get an awesome "knock-off" of the Empire while also getting a completely new context and significance to the story, along with new characters, than providing pure fan-service with no real resson for reintroducing the KOTOR stories.

This is the difference between fans and fanboys. The fans enjoy what the enjoy about each movie and dislike what they dislike about each movie. But they respect each entry as a part of the Star Wars canon and say that, no matter how bad they are, they enjoy, or at least appreciate it, because it's Star Wars. My example, Attack of the Clones. I despise that movie. It's slow, boring, coarse, rough, irritating, and it gets everywhere. But since it's Star Wars, I appreciate it.
Fanboys, on the other hand, are the 2.3k people who disliked this video. They refuse to take off their rose colored glasses and look at the original trilogy objectively. So, if it isn't exactly what they wanted because of what they thought the OT was, it's garbage. It's like you said, and this applies to the new trilogy as well: audiences loved it when the prequels/sequels came out, and then for some reason everyone just decided to hate it.

But they at least enjoy for what they are. I really like some of the movies the built up and how it slowly started to develop . and character and connections and story tie. Even there are some problems with them. But I don't have a problem with some of these movies. They are just something to enjoy as a kid. Even growing up. And being a die hard fan. And metting actors can feel like your really talking to those characters because you felt these attacted to them. Like movies are Kent for to entertain and grow up with and its about vision and passion of wanting what you want to show the public. What your vision of movies are. And movies make you want to do your own creation they can inspire you. To do something. You can be like yourself and no what why can't I do something like this. I want to show people my vision and bring joy to the world that's what movies are. But you do need to have a good story and paste . that's one thing.
Now what comes to a certain point. Of hatred like everyone has the rights to say what they want. We all have opinions on certain thing. And opinions are very important. To a lot of things. But people just make it a big deal. Like of you don't like a movie don't like it simple as that. But don't blame someone because you don't like something . what this guy wanted to do. Is to make fans dreams come true and show movies what they are made of. And just sit and enjoy. But there is a problem . some people just hate a movie for the sake of it. And just change there love for a movie . that made there dream come true.
But I still think the other ones are just blah. What the fuck. But they did add the original cast add least. Disney could have left everything to him. But they wanted money. I don't hate them. It was just sad how the era chose ended up. And disney are cock suckers for that. Because all of the toxic fanbase he got pissed. And he just gave everything to disney its like the fans made disney do it.
If only there was a series of movies about learning that giving into hate and anger will destroy everything you love especially when you do so thinking it's to protect it while it is actually out of a selfish desire for control....

Imagine creating a universe from scratch by making three films and it grows to become the most popular franchise on the planet and your films are known the world over and loved by everybody of all ages.
Imagine you then decide to make three more films and that very fanbase that loved your universe gives you so much abuse that you sell it for less than it's worth just so you don't have to carry the burden anymore.
Imagine that the company you sold it to then decides to make three more films to finish your original 9 film plan and it is met with even more hatred from the same fanbase. Now you're glad that you sold it but much to your suprise, the same people who abused you and drove you to sell your own creation now want you back.
I love star wars and a lot of the fans are great but there really are a lot of hypocrites out there.

He even calls out fans who are , in his opinion, only whiny haters (up to that point this was his most successful video ) Then after he saw the movie he first really likes it but more and more admits it has flaws and then comes to the conclusion that if you really think about it, it was a bad movie distracting us with a lot of flashy action and beautiful cinematography, so we don't realize how bad the story is. Then Disney reacts to critics of TLJ by calling them all kinds of istophobes and not addressing any of the points made by them. That is when the tone slowly changes and he does what you would say is declaring a war on the movie. Look at other channels of the fandom manacle and you will see similar patterns. And i absolutely support that. I ask again why would he and other people who criticized the move, take this insults in silent submission ?
This is an amazing take on the Star Wars problem, and it points out that the problem started long before Disney got their hands on it. Today's fans have forgotten that their reaction to the prequel trilogy is what led to George Lucas deciding that he no longer wanted to do Star Wars.
Two things...first, George was partially to blame for the first fandom problem, but not because of the movies that he made (1,2,3). The caused a problem by leaving the fans alone for so long, and letting the EU get away from him. For sixteen years (1983-1999) George left the fans without a new Star Wars movie. This caused the development of a fanbase that was not purely tied to the movies that George had made. There was all this extraneous stuff, and fans became invested in it, but George didn't. This is partially the cause for reaction of fans to what George did make.
The second thing that I see is just a possibility, but lots of the complaints about the sequels seems to be that they do not do enough fan service. So, let's look at this from the standpoint of Disney.
First, there was Star Wars and a new fanbase was built.
Second, there was The Phantom Menace, and the old fan base was mostly disappointed, and a new fan base was built.
Consider those, and then go back to the Disney execs. Do they believe that the new trilogy will ever satisfy the old fanbases? Or, do they think that they can use the Star Wars name to build a new fanbase. Why cater to the old fan base, when every old Star Wars fanbase has shown themselves capable of turning on the creator?
When Disney says...okay, I do not know if anyone at Disney or Lucasfilm said anything like this, but there are reports that amount to Disney saying to disgruntled fans that the sequel trilogy isn't intended for them. Why would they make a movie for the old fanbase, when all the available information suggests that the old fanbase will turn on them, that there is no way to make them happy.
And, the fans are proving the Disney execs right.
But are they real "fans"? They're not, they're just haters hating everything in this world, Star Wars included. Because all the fans I know (including myself) still love Star Wars and cannot wait to see what's coming next.
Im not....considering the next big "thing" is a novel series, because they realized no one fucking wants to watch the Movies anymore and even the books already sound so full of woke feminism....

Star wars fans: If the movies don't meet their extremely high expectations, they'll harass everyone involved in it and even everyone that like it.
I've hated the fanbase since the drama from the force awakens. But with the release of the last jedi, the fanbase became even more toxic which caused me to despise the fanbase.
If Steven Spielberg was the one writing and directing. They would praise him for ages about how he's a great director because of his work (like Rian Johnson). Only to change there mind afterwards and send him death threats because he didn't use there fanfiction.

There are a ton of really great trilogies out there (The Godfather, The Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, The Dark Knight. 2010s Planet of the Apes, Dollars Trilogy, America Trilogy, etc. pp.) and I can't quite say which one is definitively "the best", but Star Wars OT is clearly one of them.

Note: Updated to reflect my more nuanced and current thoughts on this matter. My older views on this type of stuff tended to be quite reductive, hence why I've altered this now to reflect what I feel is a much better articulated and reasoned version of the argument.

This one quote demonstrates what is entirely wrong with a specific portion of this fanbase and the most extreme hyper-obsession version of fandom in general. They can't accept things being bad. Or things not pandering explicitly to them. You are not owed anything more than any other fan. Being angry, bitter and disappointed I get. But there's a limit to what's reasonable. Being angry isn't the problem, it's how far some are willing to go with it and the extent to which they'll go when expressing it. Their feelings are valid, but they seem to be taking it personally or as a direct attack on them. Ultimately, it's just a movie, and I say that not to demean the art form; there's a difference between taking film seriously on an artistic and intellectual level and proclaiming your childhood has been raped over it. You can dislike a creative figure without vilifying them. You can dislike Rian Johnson without calling him names and every now or then tweeting angrily at him four years after the fact - this is not a thing you should hold a vendetta over. You can dislike Kathleen Kennedy without rumor mongering for years on end that she's going to be fired any minute now. You can dislike a piece of art without acting like it's a personal insult directed towards you. Again, it's not that they're wrong for thinking the franchise has bad installments, or that Disney has treated the property poorly, rather that they're seemingly incapable of separating themselves from the art. Your emotional happiness should not seemingly hinge on how you feel about an intellectual property. Investing in this stuff is fine, good even, but like anything, there's a point between what's healthy and what's an obsession. The Last Jedi being bad is not a direct attack on you. If Star Wars is dead to you now, that sucks, and I get that, but at some point you have to move on. Things turn ugly the moment we shift from "I think this is bad" to weird petty grudges and rants about fake fans and conspiracy theories regarding who's getting paid off and when. I'm not your enemy for liking The Last Jedi and thinking it's good. You're not my enemy for hating The Last Jedi and thinking it's bad. Fandom should not be a war or battle. We should be able to debate, discuss and chat about our opinions without hostility. You can and should voice your complaints with the franchise, but understand like with anything, where the line stands between constructive criticism and simply being hateful for the sake of venting. Ironic that a franchise all about not letting anger and hatred take control has somehow managed to cultivate a portion of its fanbase that is seemingly all for being hateful and relishing in it. It's as if some of them started out innocent like Anakin Skywalker but slowly grew obsessive, angry and self-entitled until they fell from grace like Vader did. Again, discourse is good, criticism is good. But are you in it to learn, engage or discuss, or are you just in to proclaim that you're right and everyone else is wrong? I'm not sure I'd argue Star Wars is dead anymore and that the fans killed it, rather that the toxic portion of the fandom that's festering right now is eroding what I think the spirit of Star Wars is all about.

Here's another quote I uncovered after I'd finished making the video, this is George speaking in regards to backlash of his OT 'Special Editions':

I’m not going to spend the, we’re talking millions of dollars here, the money and the time to refurbish that, because to me, it doesn’t really exist anymore. It’s like this is the movie I wanted it to be, and I’m sorry you saw half a completed film and fell in love with it. But I want it to be the way I want it to be. I’m the one who has to take responsibility for it. I’m the one who has to have everybody throw rocks at me all the time, so at least if they’re going to throw rocks at me, they’re going to throw rocks at me for something I love rather than something I think is not very good, or at least something I think is not finished."
George was so sad he couldn't make the movie he intended. The original Star Wars releases were always a 'work in progress' to him. When he got to the point that he could finally release the movies to the world, the way he'd envisioned, people hated them and hated him for it. It's all so sad.
I think the irony of all of this is that we tore George Lucas down and all of a sudden, are back to putting him on a pedestal now that Disney are in charge. Yet, if George Lucas did somehow come back, I'd bet people would start hating him all over again. This fanbase is stuck in this cycle of hatred. Just searching for the next thing to be mad about. Never finding true satisfaction. I think it's a shame that this is how far the fanbase has fallen.

Instead of yelling that Rey is a Mary Sue, think about what Qui Gon said in Season 6 of TCW. “The force is always changing”. The force is desperate for balance guys. To add to the lazy "Rey is a Mary Sue" argument the force does not give two shits about self inflated egos. You could be a lowly janitor with no money or family or friends but you could still have all the force powers in the world. The movies clearly say that the force is all around us and it binds us together. The force was around Rey her entire life she never knew she had it much like with Luke in the OT he never knew he had it.

They do recognize the problem with the star wars fandom. But like I said they're pretty rare and you often see rants that most star wars UA-camrs make about the new movies. I've seen Star wars fan films they are great, but you have a very small team doesn't have the resources or the full knowledge to make a full-blown movie. A Studio like lucasfilm isn't just going to let a fan who's made some Star wars fan films make episode 8, 9 ect ... You have to have valid criteria /expertise. Plus you're working with so many producers, writers, editors, believe me if the fans made episode 7, 8, and 9 they probably would have bombed. People can say whatever they want about JJ and Rain, but here's some inside knowledge, JJ directed the new Star Trek, was a writer for "lost" worked on mission impossible, and Ryan he directed looper, brick, some of the best breaking bad episodes ever,

I completely agree. Fans ruin everything, not just star wars. They don't know the first thing about storytelling, they don't know what they want, and when miraculously they get it they complain about it! If they just gave writers and directors the benefit of the doubt, to do what they're paid to do, maybe they wouldn't hate everything as much.

@@AJ_Jingco So far it hasn't. Unlike Star Wars, the Marvel people (especially Feige, James Gunn and the Russos) really love interacting with the fans. I think that's why there's a lot of animosity between the SW fanbase and Lucasfilmーthe massive disconnect. Not to mention the fact that Star Wars is a massive cultural phenomenon before the 2010s that there's a lot of wedge between the fans and the company making it. With most Marvel properties you don't have that problem, since a lot of those properties were very obscure unless you were an avid comic fan, like the Guardians and (dare I say it) the Avengers.
The fact Jake Lloyd had psychological problems, Jar Jar Binks actor almost committed suicide, and Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran deleted their socials really just proves that Star Wars fans are the worst fans of any entertainment franchise and that's saying a lot.
You want to know what ultimately sealed this as one of my favorite videos on the internet? When you revealed the footage of Hammil’s interviews that everybody uses when they say that Hammil hated TLJ was cut down and that he ultimately enjoyed the movie. I hate it when people make those alterations to prove a point about a movie being bad. If they didn’t like the movie, fine. They don’t need to cut up videos and fake things to justify their point. When I found out that was cut footage, I was pretty pissed off. Thank you for shedding light on that Hammil thing.
Pleasure man! And thanks for saying so. It's something that really INFURIATED me! Things like this bother me a lot -- that people can just cut up anything they want to suit their own purpose. I'm a big believer in showing things in FULL context.
A lot of people do it with clips of certain politicians -- and that bothers me too -- even if I don't support or like the particular politician, I think they should be given the respect of context before people freak out.
The worst TLJ supercut I saw included all these clips of Hamill as well as a clip of Bob Iger talking about "it's all about business.. we're doing this because it's good for business", and it was ripped directly from an interview about the bloody Fox buyout -- NOTHING to do with Star Wars AT ALL.

Star Wars fans criticize her for being able to fight and beat Kylo Ren, but praise somebody way more horribly written. Star killer. Darth Vader’s apprentice in the Force Unleashed games who managed to beat him and Palpatine, and everyone praises him as a badass. When Rey beats a not fully trained knight who wasn’t trying to kill her, after a life time of general self-trained combat, Star Wars fans say she’s a Mary Sue and horribly written. An apprentice to Darth Vader (who by definition is weaker than Darth Vader) manages to beat him and almost kill the master even stronger than Vader, everybody praises him as an ultimate badass. Hypocrisy is another thing from these fans that is killing Star Wars.
Starkiller was also stabbed through the chest, thrown into metal objects and walls, and is thrown through a window into the vacuum of space and somehow survives.
People have no problem with it whatsoever.
Leia is pulled into space after the bridge is destroyed with no damage to her body and survives thanks to the force.
People scream about how it destroyed there childhoods and it's like Mary bloody Poppins of all things.

He was a virgin birth, can survive going thousands of miles per hour in a podracer, flew that one Starfighter with no knowledge of it and was able to blow up a whole droid control ship, and that he could fall thousands of stories and couldn't get hurt.
I’ll start off by saying I agree with a lot of the criticism for the Last Jedi. I thought it was entertaining but I’m just not a fan of the new characters they’ve made. That said this video gives a very interesting perspective on how we got to where we are. Thank you for showing me a new perspective on Star Wars.

Last Jedi is far and away from a perfect movie, and certainly has a lot of flaws and issues - but there should be a way to give criticism and have a civil conversation about it, instead of people being jerks.

Did I love the prequels? No. However I never felt that gave me any sort of right to savagely berate anyone involved with the films production. If anything it opens up an opportunity to offer up constructive criticism. Although I dislike The Last Jedi I don't feel like I need to personally assault the cast or crew for 'ruining' Star Wars. After all it's just entertainment.

Yep, here is a quote from a critic using that train of thought, this is a "movie that could easily be discarded as simply a marketing tool for merchandise, apps and games." My take on that approach to defend this movie. If you were expecting a plot, you're a fool, just enjoy the special effects, they were fantastic, and don't forget to go out and buy a Transformer...oops I mean a Porg. if that is all you want, then enjoy, but don't blame the audience for not confusing this franchise, with Transformers.
Sith1122 just to be clear, I’m not defending the movie on any grounds. I was saying that maintaining civility and keeping a level head regarding criticism of the films is the way to go ESPECIALLY considering that what is being discussed is a vehicle for entertainment.
As an aside I do care about the quality of the films being presented and the lack of central story line in the new trilogy is of concern to me. However I don’t feel like personal attacks on Rian Johnson or Kathleen Kennedy or even George Lucas is going to have a positive result on the quality of the films. In fact if past is prologue it would suggest a negative impact on the quality of storytelling. Hope this helps.
That makes perfect sense. But I did not start this fight. I normally don't post, especially about topics as subjective as Star War. I'm not a particularity big fan of Star Wars. I hated the expanded universe, one of the best things Disney did do, was to get rid of that trash. I only know about Star Wars Rebels because my kids watch it. I defended The Force Awakens , and loved Rogue One. So the question remains, why I'm I posting; its because the critics said we were full of baloney. That we do not know how to watch a movie. In a nutshell the critics, started their attack because they needed to defend their dishonest scores. The fan base that liked the the movie, joined in on the attack. I joined in to defend my viewpoint, which at the time was more neutral, or meh, but now after being forced to defend my viewpoint, I hate the movie. In this video I'm told I'm suppose to like Beverly Hills Cop 3, because Beverly Hills Cop was so good, and who would want to go through life without a new Beverly Hills Cop movie. This video is telling the fans to accept this movie, in order to keep the franchise alive. I already did that for the prequels, this movie is the straw that broke the camel's back. I no longer have any interest in keeping the franchise alive, and I'm not alone in this viewpoint. The remaining fan base needs to move on without me.

I say the critics are dishonest because I have the fans on websites saying it has a 49% approval rating.The critics are approving it at 91%. No other movie in this franchise, has that disconnect between fans, and critics. The critics, then proceeded to say the disconnect was caused because the fan scores were false\manipulated. The websites checked that, and came back and said that said the fan scores were honest. This IMHO the critics scores are dishonest.
Sith1122 I don’t think film critics were being dishonest. I think a lot of them liked it because it was more or less a post modernist refutation of the Star Wars version of ‘The Heroes Journey.’ Characters are deeply flawed, make mistakes, etc. it’s ok to tell a story like that however it kind of only works if it feels earned. Instead a lot of things like Luke’s exile are more or less ‘here’s the way it is now and you have to accept that.’ Which gives me the impression that a lot of these changes were hastily done and not really thought out within the context of the film series as a whole. Now that Rian Johnson tossed out pretty much all the plot threads from TFA what do we have left to look forward to in 9?
Love how the angry fan boys are all incapable of having a calm conversation and are just like "I hate this film it's a piece of trash blah blah blah.." It's funny how mad they are. But the people who like it are able to use logic or at least have a decent understandable conversation.
Disney churning out movies for profit is one thing. The movies being without any overarching direction is another. Being accused of isms and otherwise simply for voicing discern is ridiculous.

A lot of the things ''fans'' are complaining about were there since 1977. This is selective outrage. In my opinion all of the films are equal in quality. They complain about how TLJ has a casino planet, and flat out ignore the 50s diner in Attack of The Clones. They complain about how there's a political agenda in the new films, and flat out ignore that George Lucas based Emperor Palpatine off Richard Nixon, George W. Bush, and Adolf Hitler. They complain about the SJW droid in ''Solo'', but completely ignore that the anti-droid sentiment was always there in Star Wars since ''A New Hope.''

They complain about the humor in TLJ, but totally ignore the lighthearted camp of IV through VI, which it is obviously paying tribute to. So I am in total certainty that these ''fans'' just have selective outrage. The bottom line is, if it wasn't bad then, it isn't bad now.
Jackson Begley And their bias in favor of the original trilogy is more due to nostalgia than anything else, not that the original trilogy was actually better than the prequels. As a younger fan who was introduced to both the original trilogy and prequels at the same time, I don’t see how one is is inherently better than the other. I don’t get the hate against the new trilogy either.
Those issues were brought up in the original films, and the new films explored the potential of those scenarios. The anti-droid sentiment that humans and humanoids have in the SW films is nothing new.

Also in TFA Kylo Ren was reveled to be the son of Han and Leia instead of Dark side Luke and I don’t remember fans complaining about that but TLJ Luke or Jake Skywalker is a hopeless and disillusion person and a lot of fans was in rage what’s the difference.
I’ll tell you the difference, one is a silly Theory even if people was interested in it, it was still a theory, while TLJ Jake Skywalker is Canon.

Why can’t SW fans be like the HP or MCU community? A community that does not bash hate on their own franchise. And yes, I know MCU fans and HP fans can be toxic but they don’t bash on the actors or creators (and yes, I know what happened with Oslen and Rowling)
I hate how people attacked Ryan Jonson and JJ Abrams too, sure the movies weren’t good Star Wars films (except for TFA) but they were at least enjoyable too watch. Also, Attacking the film makers makes you look like an even bigger piece of shit because whether they know it or not, Ryan And JJ worked very hard too make the movies, I heard the original Cut for TROS made much more sense and had a worthwhile climax and ending. But KK screwed it all up. These toxic fans still really piss me off.

I love how all of the "real" Star Wars fans who hated the movie seem to be millenials who weren't even alive in 1977. I'm not saying that there AREN'T real Star Wars fans born after 1984. Far from it.
But everyone I know personally who experienced that Star Destroyer flying over our heads in the theaters LOVE what's being done with the Star Wars mythology.

Look.. I grew up with the original trilogy, that's what got me into star wars. I never liked the fans that just bashed the prequels, but they had some good points. The CGI was horrible (even for its time), it had bad acting, and jar jar. BUT the story felt compelling, it was a nice arc.. and episode 3 tied everything up nicely. It felt like it's own universe, like star wars. Episode 7, while leaning too heavily on nostalgia, still left the foundations of what could potentially be a good story. Then came episode 8.. and threw it all away! Even if you don't consider all the Identity politics and SJW related stuff (And the homenage to Karl Marx and PETA that was canto bight), the rest of the story is extremely WEAK.
You can't just do random stuff that nobody expected and call it a brilliant act of subversion. People expect stories with an arc.. with cohesion, some archetype that it's attractive to us (sometimes by reasons we don't understand). Episode 9 as a standalone movie ain't complete trash.. but if you consider that it's supposed to be part of a trilogy? it's just horrible. I respect Rian for taking a risk.. but he definitely made a lot of mistakes with this movie, and he won't even acknowledge half of it (He or anyone at lucas arts). The characters are weak and unrelatable, the story is weak, and the comedy was overused (and most of it sucked too). There is a good reason user reviews suck in most sources. Star Wars has never been known for it's top-notch writing, but episode 8 is just too subpar.
Disney is known for making good movies for kids that adults can also enjoy. They also have to consider that most of the fandom is above a certain age now. I see no problem with the movies pandering to kids, but that's no excuse for bad writing. I don't consider that "true" star wars fans don't like the movie.. I just consider people who deny that the movie is unjustly criticized to have poor criteria and bad taste, regardless if they're a fan or not (and their political alignments) .

The way the fans treated George was just wrong. I always loved the man, and he was always a huge influence on me as an artist. I always admired his depth of imagination and his ability to create new worlds. So if by some slight chance George reads this. I love your body of work, prequels and all. I wish you were at the helm of this latest trilogy.

I couldn't help but read your comment and sympathize with your sentiment... However we differ somewhat, as I was largely influenced by Dragon Ball Z's creator Akira Toriyama, and George Lucas' Star Wars series to a lesser extent. But where as I understand both men have created a great deal of flaws in their work, discovering these flaws for me has been like a treasure hunt. Each new flaw I discover is a gem of knowledge I can learn from to improve my own work, but this is because as a kid I used to think DragonBall and the Star Wars Prequels(yes my introduction to Star Wars were the prequels, fans you can kill me later...) were flawless and detractors were being harsh to these works...
But were fans being hard on George? Oh my yes, that's why this new trilogy are retreads because they weren't clear on what exactly they wanted...

Star Wars fans are NEVER happy. It doesn't matter what route the Star Wars franchise decides to go in. They hated it when Lucas owned it, they hated it when Lucas sold it. Now they hated it because Disney owns it. All they love is episodes 4,5 & 6 because of Nostalgia...THAT'S IT! Yet, they beg for more Star Wars movies...only to hate them. When they get story, they whine for more action, when they get action, they whine for more story. I'm 42. When I was a little, I thought the original Star Wars trilogy was pretty boring. To be honest, its nothing but politics with a little bit of action tossed in. And modern Star Wars have been following that same formula for every movie so I don't know why their fans are so upset.
