For Asimov to suggest that compromise exists on one side is substantially, though not completely, disingenuous. The Catholic Church has maintained for decades that evolution occurred or, at least, is compatible with Christian theology and, therefore, not adverse to the belief in God.

Asimov was a great communicator of history with emphasis on science history. I am a great fan and like his fiction too but can also readily see he has serious shortcomings vis-à-vis predictions of the future (but also recall that Yogi Berra said predictions of the future were the hardest kind of prediction). I was very sad when Asimov died, sadder still when Hitchens died and now there is no one (Dyson is not primarily a communicator).

  • @apodipl4596
    @apodipl4596 Рік тому

I find interesting Asimov's contradictions and confirmation bias (and the fact that other people here do not see them) in the first half of the interview
    According to him ,
    1) USA has the right "he hopes" to "democratize" the world even though USA is not a Democracy but a republic . While Soviet union does not have the right to "communize" the world , and religion does not have the right to evangelize the world . Is not this applying double standards ? If propaganda is bad , all kinds of propaganda are bad.
    2) "Science"( meaning low level science as opposed to true scientists) can propagate their false beliefs( pseudo scientific findings that were now proven wrong such as phrenology) in schools but religion cannot do the same in schools but should do it in churches. why?
    3) He said that the evolutionists should tell to people what evolution is and people should decide on their own but the christians could make the same claim That they made missions to teach about jesus and then people could freely decide. " but they cant , creationism is not a science" he says which I agree . But if dogmatism should be in specific institures why universities have taught and teach dogmatic ideas then ?
So Asimof is right about religious dogmatism and confirmation bias but fails to see his own dogmatism and confirmation bias.
Also Asimov also propagates false historical "facts" . The Library of Alexandria was not destroyed by the Arabs . It was first burned by Julius Cesar while he tried to conquer Egypt . After that a big part of it was restored ,
But the on 400 AD after the Decrees of Theodosius "the Great" every non christian art(statues, paintings , temples or books , scientific , poetry , philosophy were destroyed .
The Library of Alexandria had 5 milllion books .
While when Umar supposedly destroyed the library the library supposedly had 54 000.
But even that destruction makes no sense because Muslims save guarded books and restored the ancient knowledge creating similar libraries with the one of Alexandria .
So Asimov seems to be dogmatic , misinformed and biased . Like he accuses the christians to be
On the second half of the interview is he explains everything greatly which shows that his bias is mostly related to religion and scientism .

Moyer asks softball questions. The interview with Heffner was far more provocative. In essence, Asimov seemed to have advocated gender equality as a means of population control. Yet earlier in the interview, he dismissed the necessity of religion for moral conduct. Hence, he revealed his propensity for psychological manipulation as a means of interfering with the natural inclination of humanity to procreate. And it appears to have rendered no effect upon his conscience.

Well, to not want to bring people into understanding what the Creator has been asking from us will ultimately only bring destruction to the world. It is ignorance and defiance to see that you can commit either good or bad deeds. Its pure foolishness. Asimov is just another guy full of ego, taking himself as a guru, wanting the appraisal of others, basically calling people into idolatry towards his person and own doctrine. The world has seen millions of people like him, who refuse to assess the truth that God is, superior to all of us and that none of us is greater than one another, only God is. Just like the commandments of God are perfection, and the very ideal vision of a future made out of happiness for each and everyone as well as the collective whole.
It is the idea that each and everyone acts accordingly to what is good, without malice, without the desire for personal gain over the manipulation of others or the environment in which we live in.
The world has never seen such an age, but this age is what each and everyone carries as a hope to see one day, heaven that is. All the good things Yeshua the messiah, whom we call Jesus Christ has spoken of : the absence of war, the absence of hardship of any sort, the knowledge of all things, pure pleasure out of what is good for one as much as for others, the rejoicing into serving a cause that benefits both self and others, tranquility, peace with every word and every step, the total absence of fear, of poverty. Thats the greatest idea and it comes from no one else but God. No one else can bring everybody together but the very teachings that God gives freely.
Religion has nothing to do with God, nor that believing in God is a blind faith, for nothing exists unless it is made, and seeing the whole creation in front of our eyes everyday, including the experience of living we have been given, one cannot deny the existence of God, but even beyond the matter, the spiritual things and wisdom that are written, no man can write nor think such things.
All the prophets who were sent to speak, none of them were related to one another, living in different places, living in different times, band yet all prophesied, nor in their name, but all giving credit to the master of the universe, who only reveals visions and words to those he specifically chose.
Few can accept this truth, that these men have no glory for themselves having said such things, because none of them were speaking of their own. Even the great Moses, he was appointed and did what he did because he was called to do so. Even Moses refused and feared people would think he’s inventing the existence of another identity, making his alter ego speak, like mohammed did with “allah” in his coran, the product of jealousy from the arabs, the descendants of Ishmael, son of Abraham, brother to Isaac, son of Abraham, jewish.
Having read all subjects of the matter, being filled with the desire and thirst for the truth regarding this life, nothing ever came closer to what one can read in the Bible, the Torah AND the New Testament.
There is absolutely nothing wrong into pushing Christianity, nor that God God asks for money or any specific cult or tradition like the religious people do, by corrupting the word of God and setting themselves up as a false authority over it, when no one owns the word of God, because it belongs to everyone. Popes, high priests, they mean nothing, all they ever did was corrupting the word of God.
If one reads the Bible, he will understand the truth. Fools live by prejudices, having never read the Bible and still speaking against it as if it was nothing that every man should avoid, when clearly, it is exactly what one owes to be doing in order to free himself, and then to give meaning into all of this.
Asimov ? Who has time to read science fiction, blind believes of idealized doomed and selfish visions that can only profit the one who wrote them.
Those that truly believe in God cannot care less about the self, for the self if useless unless it is surrounded by peers who think alike, to go into the direction of peace and wisdom, ensuring all goodness would come out of it.
Judeo christian values have shaped the world, giving it so much, in terms of art, architecture, knowledge, science, food, shelter, all good things, great gifts given by God, and yet, a few from amongst us wanted to take power over these things, corrupting it, twisting it, desecrating it, trying to erase the idea of God, and putting Man in front of it. Yes, Man with a big M, for even in our days, the ghost of feminism will find its own doom.
And you know what proves that the plan of God is perfect ? It is that He doesnt need to do anything, He’s just waiting for us to come to our senses.
And when people do, people will love the world, and the world will love it back, and God will visit us, as it was prophesied. And we will be gathered will the ones we lost, the ones we never met, the ones we never got to know.
I believe in it, with all my heart, that everything will fall into the will of God, that people will abandon these philosophies of man, that only lead into sewage. Its not a matter of how, how is taken care of, its only matter of when, and we can do such thing as to hasten this great thing we all secretly hope to see unfold before us, and even getting to live it, all it takes is the abandonment of the ego, and giving back to God what is God’s, meaning the intelligence, the wisdom and everything else that we call good.
Of yeah, there will be writers in heaven, of science fiction books, great books to read, great movies to watch, great games to play, good food and good drinks to drink. But before this happens, humanity still needs to work towards it. It is part of us, God put it into the idea of Man long before he created Adam. Eve was into Adam before she came out of him, and the same applies to us all, to us all. One family, one God.
