My parents were born and raised in 2 different small villages in Southern Italy under the rule of Mussolini back in the 1940’s & 50’s. Imagine that! So they were very conservative and taught that you only kiss your children when they’re sleeping, never pick them up when they’re crying and never tell them you love them. Of course they always meant well like any parent but they just weren’t taught the proper way to love us because they were post war italian immigrants with very little education because there parents couldn’t afford it and they came to Canada to work and raise a family. They believed in punishment and repression and felt that as long as they provided us with food and shelter as well as the odd trip once in awhile, that was enough and they didn’t see the importance of affection that a child needs for healthy overall development especially during the crucial early years of brain development.

I lived in CA for almost the first 50 years of my life. They do not call it "The Land of the Fruits and Nuts" for nothing.
No kidding. Born and raised in L.A.. Used to be a nice place until the '80s. Then it went downhill. Hollywood turned into Hollyweird. Too much crime, violence, graffiti and the nutty homeless now. No wonder everyone is leaving CA.
