  • This is a movement that I use in many positions when my opponent tries to stack me in my guard. It has uses in the triangle choke, spider guard, when your opponent pins your ankle above your head, and many others. It also helps with preventing people from trying to dive for a berimbolo when passing your guard. Often these small detail are the difference between your guard working and not working. Hope the details help and comment if you have any questions.

    wim deputter has a variation he call the rock bottom posture. it is fundamentally solid and heavy and super anti stack proof.
    if you tilt your head back looking up and you bring your shoulder and elbows backwards down to the mat, rotate your pelvis so you have an arch in the low back and lift your toes and feet slightly so you engage your posterior chain, you then become super heavy and unable to be stacked

    Awesome video! Can you continue with this concept in another video to more fully address the triangle choke? You started into it a little but it would be great so you discuss dealing with guys who stack the triangle or stack and twist to break the triangle. I get into the triangle a lot but have a hard time finishing against really strong guys and I have a similar build as you. Thanks!

    Started BJJ about 2 months ago and got double under stacked by a 250 lb spazz who put all his weight on me. Wish my instructor would of showed me this because I really messed up my lower back. I should of just rolled back but being new and not knowing what to do I just tried to leg press him off.

      Flesh Eaterz Yeah this movement should be a foundational movement in all gyms. I also wish mobility was treated more seriously like it is in taekwondo

    top notch does the same principle work if they grab your belt and lift you

  • @EvanMcLaren
    @EvanMcLaren 5 років тому

    Do you respond any differently from what you’ve shown here if, instead of literally grabbing your ankles or getting any immediate leg or pant grip, your opponent begins to stack you simply by stepping in super close? In this case the stack begins to happen because your opponent’s legs and hips are pushing your legs backwards over your head, and his feet and ankles are crowding your hips, beginning to lift them and blocking them from coming back down to the mat.

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  5 років тому

      Evan McLaren yeah for sure the motion of dropping your hips like that is constantly used is so many situations. The big thing is after you block the initial pass you need to be quick to establish your grips to start your own guard control.
