- 'Shaymen of Halifax' was written and performed by Tommy Degnan for Halifax Town in 1978. The record was produced by Les Johnson and Tony Thwaites for Humber Records.
The still images are taken from the CD 'Halifax Town through the years' produced by Halifax Town Supporters Club. The CD itself contains many, many more quality photos.
The archive video footage is taken from a Calendar report for Yorkshire Television in 1978 about a song Tommy had written for Scotland's World Cup team. Presumably, the Halifax Town song was commissioned after someone at the club had seen this report. Either that or the Tartan troubadour took a detour off the A1 and approached the club himself.
This has made my day seeing this! Immediately subbed, saw Halifax twice, Wembley playoff and the final at the Shea final against Chorley, both times we won, I'm hooked on Halifax 👍🙌

I certainly remember Tommy recording this catchy song and others at Humber Music Recording Studios, Laceby, Nr. Grimsby, Lincs in 1978, because I helped to produce and engineered those very recording sessions. I just couldnt help whistling his songs as they were very catchy and infectious.I am so pleased for him that, after all these years the fans are still playing and singing it.

That's great! The song is very catchy. Thanks to this video they've now started playing it again before the matches at the Shay. It wasn't easy getting this from vinyl to mp3 and then to You Tube but I'm glad I did it. I've done the B-side too somewhere on my channel.

Produced by lifelong Town fan Chris Battye (whoever he is!), the CD contains the songs 'Shaymen of Halifax' and 'Shaymen Song'. Buy it for £2.50 from the club shop or online.

Huzzah! The vinyl version appears to be pitched somewhere between D and D# but I can play a passable version on the piano in the (much easier) key of C! I tried playing along on the drums with brushes but I sound awful.
