    I’m so happy Brooke made this video. I got a 36 on the ACT but still went to community college, I had guaranteed transfer acceptance to UCI because of my GPA and I’ll be able to transfer to UCLA or Berkeley. I’ll still get the same bachelors degree as everyone else for half the cost! When transferring from community college your gpa is way more important than your EC’s so you can get in with arguably less effort and you don’t need to have the inside knowledge that Ivy League grads tell their kids about. It’s great that Brooke’s giving more exposure to higher education options.

    As someone who did not do well in high school, I am so thankful for community college and the options that they give to those applying to state schools

    I noticed that someone else mentioned this about STEM TAG for UCs, but I feel like I should probably elaborate a little further:
    I'm an engineering student at a California CC who has already filed for transfer. The GPA and courseload for engineers has a pretty notorious reputation, and the college of engineering is just objectively smaller at every UC, and has a much smaller acceptance rate for freshmen and transfer at just about every school. This is why very few of us apply for all of the three big boys (Cal, UCLA,and UCSD), and because they don't do TAG. TAG is really the saving grace. The other majors who get access to the college of letters and sciences actually do get a shot, because there's more slots.
    But in general, the way the transfer programs are designed for a lot of STEM degrees, and engineering in particular, is that you get maybe three or four UCs who's prereqs you can reasonably make in two years. For myself (BME student) and most of my fellow engineering students, we kinda just cram in what we need for TAG, a Hail Mary for one of the big boys, and a backup, and that's about all we can reasonably do. The poor CS and CompE guys don't have TAG to anywhere but UCSC and Merced at last count, and my heart goes out to them. The "oh yeah, you can totally make it to Berkeley/UCLA through CC" is pretty much nonapplicable to engineering students, unless they've been blessed by the grace of a higher power and have a 4.0 in STEM.
    All the same, I'm really grateful for TAG. I filed mine in early November for UCI, and I couldn't be happier. Top tier engineering school, top tier research facilities, everything about it is wonderful, even if it is in the OC (I'm from the Bay, but my family is from LA, so I reserve the right to make fun of Orange County in perpetuity).
    If you got your rear handed to you for freshmen admissions to the UCs, like yours truly, I recommend a California CC, and take that moonshot for the big boys, because you'll have a chance.
    If you're an engineering student who got your rear handed to you for freshman admissions to the UCs, I recommend a California CC and to take your TAG and run.
    tl;dr: TAG is great, STEM is hard, engineers have a rough transfer outlook. If you're CS, good luck.

    In Georgia there are no community colleges. In their place are technical colleges and 4-year state colleges (not the same as the 4-year state universities here). At a technical college an associate degree is free if you choose an in-demand major. At a four-year college it's possible to stay on after your cheaply priced associate and do a bachelors for a total cost of under $15K, and that's the price before grants or scholarships etc.

    TAG is slowly going away by the years for the UC’s. If you’re majoring in anything STEM, it’s much much harder for you to transfer, and will continue to be harder

    Personally I would think that transferring from a community college to a bachelor-level college is so worth it because, unlike high school, community college allows you to register a course that you like, as long as it fulfills the degree requirements, and have more chances of doing well in the course

    Atending a community college was one of th best financial decisions I've ever made. Now I'm months away from finishing graduate school. Blowing throu cash on a high priced undrad degree is silly and overrated.

    Hey brooke,
    how are you? i hope you’re feeling well, I’m a student from saudi arabia who wants to study in the us, I just realized that I’m too far behind other people and I haven’t been prepared yet, I’ll finish my last year of high school in june, and I haven’t studied for SAT/ACT yet, but we have a similar test like them in arabic so I should be able to catch up, I’ve looked for college applications deadline and it’s going to end in like a month and a half?? I’m so scared that i might not go study there and wait a whole other year just to (maybe) go there, if you could help me or give me videos that you made that could really help me I’ll be so grateful😊,
    And thank you for your hard work🙏🏼

    Would going to Harvard (or any elite university) actually lead you to a higher salary after graduating?

      If I remember right theres a very small difference in outcomes if you're going to a top 10 school, but other than that it's about the same

      That said though, better universities will probably have better opprotunities for internships and connections with certain buisnesses which might help you get you're foot in the door somewhere you otherwise couldn't

      ok, lets consider a scenario: you are responsible for recruiting a new employee for a very important job position, manager in google or whatever business you can imagine. Now you have 2 guys applying, one being a harvard graduate, and another being some random ass dude from a local community college, who would you pick?

    so basically community college is good if you are lazy and dont care about studying, but only want a "free" job. but harvard will actually care about you and give you a proper education, how is that even comparable? how can you accept every single person to a college if half of the people are just gonna waste their time there because they spent half ot their lives not doing anything at all?

      I have seen people transfer from community college to a 4 year university such as UCLA, USC, Cal Berkley just to name a few. I see Harvard and other schools like it as a wealthy people school. Not only do community colleges have degree programs, they also have certificate programs for people who are training for jobs that they want training in such as automotive training, construction, information technology and others. My dad went to Sacramento City College and has earned his certificate to become a stationary engineer through their mechanical electrical technology program in the 1980's. He retired about 3 or 4 years ago.

    Sorry but the quality of education of a CC vs. a decent 4-year college is not even remotely comparable.

      @theamazinghippopotomonstro9942 Рік тому

      If you go to a cc and get your degree you can transfer to a 4 year college without paying as much for classes

    • @coffeeortea8428
      @coffeeortea8428 Рік тому

      @@theamazinghippopotomonstro9942 My point was the the quality of the classes you took in CC is not comparable to that of those from a 4-year university. Yes, on paper you get the credits and can transfer to a 4 year university but the substance is not the same. Besides, by spending the first 2 years in CC, you lose the chance to build relationships with the faculty and fellow students which is a huge part of attending a university. Yes, of course, if money is the issue, go for CC.

      @CoffeeorTea Idk, for me the quality of the classes was the same and I already know most of my professors
