Sweat have out played Young
Montez is consistent and stays healthy. Chase would have been flashier and a big name but his injury history is a massive worry. This was the better trade.

Now he would’ve been Chase Claypool 2.0 if Bears got him instead of Sweat. Sweat reminds of Julius Pepper in away. Yes, Peppers is much much better player than Sweat. Both were complete DE’s can play the pass & run. Freak Athletes but Peppers was just a notch better. Hopefully, he wants to stay here. I think get along well with Walker, Billings and Ngakoue for a couple of years till Bears draft their eventual replacements along the way.

I, too, think this is a great deal for Da BEARS. A high 2 for his talent? No brainer. He's immediately the best DL we have. We have $ to spend. Why not spend it on a proven player at a premium position that is in his prime years ( just turned 27 )? 4 years/$80M and I'm happy as hell.

Could’ve spent it in FA without a high draft pick. Even if there aren’t good DEs in FA that want to sign here, use our high draft picks to acquire impact players trade down and acquire good players for depth in other positions. Bears are in no place to trade assets.

One other thing that this does, IF and when we sign him to an extension, his presence IN PRACTICE should help Darnell Wright develop as a Right Tackle, when you play against better players, you GET BETTER.
6’5 260 and ran a 4.41 at the combine!? Bench pressed 21 times and I’m sure he could of gotten more reps but probably settled for the possibility of injury as most players do at the combine. What a freak. Gives me Julius Peppers vibes!

Well, like Chase Claypool last season, this becomes our 2nd round replacement in the upcoming draft. Sure hope it turns out better. Hard to know when it comes to the bad news Bears.
He replaces chase period. Bigger need. Better talent. Mathmatically picks don't matter. You can always make up for any bad picks with getting more or finding talent late. People need to stop stressing and crying over any pick. Shit stupid.

This is a great move by Chicago if we sign him once his contact is up, and the beauty of this move is Darnell Wright will get to go against him everyday in practice and learn more techniques to become better. Iron sharpens iron.
Dont know why the Bears just didnt sign Roquan if they so willing to sign Montez to a long term deal? Plus Roquan is younger? One thing someone pointed out is he probably gonna get the double team so i hope this give the guys on the opposite side a chance to get to the quarterback?
The problem with draft prospects if they reach their potential. Boom or bust prospects happen more in the 1st rd but the 2nd thru 4th rd is where you build your average starting core. Every now and then a top prospects slip into the 2nd rd. You got a red to blue chip talent just reaching his prime for 2nd rd pick that is a steal considering it takes rookies a couple yrs to figure out and reach the start of their prime. Which means you can’t draft Montez Sweat in 2nd of 2024. That’s why I believe the Bears need to pull another DJ Moore out of their hat in 2024. You may have throw in the second 2nd rd pick in 2025 to pull it off. It’s worth it to have another yr of two 1st rd picks.

Redskins fan here chiming in……I’ll just say this. Neither Sweat or CY has ever had a year with 10 sacks and that’s with playing alongside the best interior lineman duo in the NFL. CY has been injured but Sweat has no excuse. I’m not mad they traded both guys since they need o lineman
I’m just worried that he was getting in the backfield cause Payne was so good and young was good as well but I think it was mostly Payne. I bet he has a bad rest of the year on the bears
Nice player for sure; but he would have been a free agent. We could have signed him after the season because everyone knows or should that this season or should I say this team was not built to contend for even the division. Plus we’d have other players to look at and have a little leverage in negotiations but as it is Sweat owns Poles because he must extend and at Sweats price no if and or buts because Poles gave up a ton; and yes a 2nd rounder which will be with out a doubt a top 38 pick. If it was a third or fourth given up then I’d think a bit differently. Or if we were in any contention of a playoff then ok I would have gotten the idea. But so many Bears think if you don’t like the trade then you don’t wanna add talent but that’s not true. This team is made up of to many players that are overachievers but we need blue chip prospects to make up are talent base. I just don’t get this trade ; maybe Poles will tie it altogether and I won’t be mad at it.

Here's the problem I have: the Bears probably need 3 drafts and off-season to rebuild this team. So, he's 30 by the time they're competing for a playoff spot, ideally. And, 30, is usually when the decline starts.
Everyone wants a DE that will blow up passing plays. But you need a guy who can stop runs also

Where the bears are at right now if they traded for chase young and than gave him a four year deal than he gets injured like he’s done every other season that he’s been in the nfl than how does poles look? It would start looking like every trade or acquisition that poles makes is gonna be a mistake. Sweat stays healthy and chase young will be injured by the end of the season and will miss games next season and the next to injury.
@@mr.fukk12 what if sweat gets injured? There are also several indicators statistics wise that say sweat is having less of an impact this year. For example he is only beating his blocker 8 percent of the time this year. The highest mark of his career was 18 percent

He's a major steal...IF....they can sign him to an extension. If he ends up being a "rental" a second round pick.....is a pretty STEEP price. If he ends up as a rental gotta question why a team heading nowhere would "rent" a player for a little help on defense.
Giving up a second rounder while the Bears are in re-building mode is risky… especially for a guy that has less than a year on his contract that you have to sign to a long term or lose him …. Chase young went for a low third to San Fran, is this guy worth a high second rounder?
If he doesn't have a long contract then this is a terrible deal. Getting a guy that won't help the team make the playoffs, then will likely be gone in free agency, and giving up maybe the 35th pick in the draft? Terrible!!

A major steal? Let’s hold our horses and see how he does without other disruptive DLs alongside him. Ngakoue’s been a 8-10 sacks a year guy every year and he’s on pace for 4.5 sacks this season in this defense. I bought into Claypool being a steal for a 2nd rounder last year, and that was a disaster. All the Bears have done is disappoint me over the years and so I’m done getting ahead of myself.

MLB Roquan Smith rated at 87.6 for the Ravens this year.
MLB TJ Edwards rated at 79.2 the Bears best linebacker - I like TJ but Roquan 8 points better & drafted by the Bears !
Our GM Poles wants our top CB Jaylon Johnson who is rated the 3rd Best CB by PFF to go get a trade.
Jaylon was drafted by the Bears & Poles is telling him to follow Roquan Smith out of town !
C Sam Mustipher has a 69.6 PFF rating 12th best - C Lukas Patrick 47.6 PFF Rating 34th out of 38.

Atlanta offered a 3rd, so the Bears needed to improve the offer. What does it matter when the 2nd round pick is at? Would you prefer the Bears win out the rest of the season to finish with a lower 1st round pick to make sure the 2nd round pick to Washington is lower? Montez Sweat is already a top level DE. Draft picks always come with more risk.

I miss Khalli Mack who was a better sack leader. Sweat will have to earn our respect. Good start, but we should draft a passrushing DE with our First round pick if Marvin Harrision does not want to play for us. There are other great WRs who are not overly hyped up that we can take another look at. Like Jacksonville state WRs #1 Sterling Galban and #11 Jamarye Joiner) and if you saw the FIU game you would know how fast those guys are. We need a pass rusher DE with our first pick. Still I want Michigan QB JJ McCarty on this team. Ohio state QBs are busts.

This was a terrible trade when the bears could have just paid him with over 100mil in cap space. Ryan Poles is literally the dumbest GM and the league knows it. Sweat is a good player but not worth a high 2nd round pick with an expiring contract. The Bears are a laughing stock.

the chances that we pay him 100m to get 7 sacks a year while the 2nd rounder we gave up becomes a star player who costs 1m a year are very high.

The Bears got clowned. The 49ers got Young for a 3rd round pick - projected to be a comp pick which comes after the 3rd round. The Bears gave up a 2nd for Sweat - likely to be a top 5 pick in 2nd round. This is why the Bears are a disaster, Poles is simply failing.

If the Bears don't have an extension in place already this trade becomes way more expensive. If he shows up and plays well the Bears will have no choice but to give him his full bag. A second rounder is a lot to give up when you also have to pay him top of the market money. Since the Bears aren't going anywhere this year why wouldn't you wait until free agency? Again you've got to pay him at the top of the market anyway. I hate this trade. I don't think Ryan Poles knows what he's doing.

They traded a 2nd round pick for an excellent pass rusher and run defender who doesn’t really miss games and the exclusive right to work out an extension for a team with about $110m in cap space. This is also a weak draft for pass rushers.

The Bears didn't trade a 2nd round pick to let him walk in free agency. The can franchise tag him or sign him to an extension.
He will be on the Bears in 2024.

@@YT-Holdings If he doesn’t get at least a 4 year extension at 24m per year with 75m guaranteed, he will walk after the franchise tag. 1 1/2 seasons for a second round pick is a bad deal. They will have to pay.
Sweat doesn't fit the Bears Defense. The Bears gave up a high 2nd round pick during a rebuild. Sweat is only a Bear this year. This has to be one of the most foolish trades I've seen in some time.
