When the Google Ara phones come out, the Nvidia chips will probably be the most exiting thing for me because anybody will be able to upgrade to the latest and greatest like what the more hardcore PC dudes do.
john li Hmm true that. Guess I'll bring a spare battery because the Ara phones let you swap out batteries without turning them off. It just goes into a low power mode while you swap em out.
Yeah, that'll be awesome. With an Ara phone, you could probably get a Tegra and a couple extra battery packs to perform hot swaps and get extreme performance on-the-go. Or, you know, a tablet. I've never owned a Shield device, but I'm tempted to get one of those new Shield Tablets with the X1 that will come out in a little bit. I recently built a new PC, getting rid of the AMD GPUs I used to use and opting for a GTX 980. Insanely awesome performance, and streaming to a shield tablet would be a big bonus.
I don't think this is for tablets. It's a 10 watt chip. Edit: so was the K1. Though I must add I never thought they would put that one in a tablet either since 5-6W would be ideal for mobile.
Moyukh Shabon We don't know the clockspeed of these cores. It might as well be like what they do at Qualcomm, 4 performance and 4 power saving cores which I think is rights since you can see 4 cores are bigger than the other 4 so disabling them might even cost more energy(unless you disable the high performance cores which no one will ever want)
Put things into perspective, XBox One has 1.3 TFlops of computational power with upto 100-250 watts to run on load. Tegra X1 has 1 TFlops of computational power with upto 10-15 watts to run on load. This is what u call progress.
This is great! A 8 core mobile processor, 256 core gpu, etc put together is great. I love nvidia but i wish they made cpus or their own version of amd's apus.
Intel will not let them do X86 CPU's. That's the AMD and Intel cartel only. I don't think Nvidia can even buy VIA to get a license.. I think Intel forced an agreement that they can't make them period.
@nvidia I'm impressed all the time at what you guys are able to accomplish with your tech, but if there isn't any full blown support from developers or if there isn't a push to put tegra x1 in all of your mobile products such as phones tablets and handhelds what's the point?
Hate to say this, but if that was a real-time demo, it doesn't look like the X1 ran that demo at 30+ fps. It looked like 20-25 fps. But still good anyway since ultra graphics is really punishing and PhysX takes up SO much power in any PC.
San Mattew Well the TX1 does 1TF but only at 16 bits the xbox one does about 1.3 at 32 bits. This translates to ABOUT not exactly but about half the same amount of information. Look at it this way both mechanisms "chomp" at roughly the same speed but the 32 bit proc can take twice as big bytes (pun intended). That's a very simple way to understand bit processing there's a bit (no pun intended) more to it than that but this is the main point. The main thing to take away from all this is there is a mobile chip out there now that is already half as powerful in an square inch package compared to a machine as big as a large shoe box a year earlier. As powerful or not this chip will scale better and be more capable using way less energy than any current gen console. hope this clears up some of the confusion.
Nvida hits their numbers better though. A 1TFLOP Nvidia would beat a 1.2 TFLOP AMD. The SD 810 should beat a K1 on paper, but it's behind in the benchmarks and that's Nvidia last chip. 50% of XB1 and mobile. The CEO is mixing some things up though. The UE4 demo was on the Car board that has 2X TX1.. That is 2 chips is now at the XB1 level and only using 10 watts. FYI: Nvidia can beat a 360/PS3 with a phone chip now.. That is phone, not tablet. Tegra will pass the XB1 mid cycle and that is a big deal. There will be tablets that beat a XB1 when it's only half way through it's expected life span and phones not long after that.
Only that UT4 demo wasnt running in the same specs as it was on the Xbone or PS4, for example look on the particles or physics which r quite limited. Still very good performance for a mobile 10W chip!
If it can render 1 teraflop and tegra k1 can render 326 GFLOPS, that makes tx1 more than twice powerful than tk1. So why are benchmarks showing that it is twice as powerful?
When is the release date because my birthday is june 4th and i dont want to buy maybe the nvidia shiel tablet 2 MAYBE and i dont want to buy the nvidia shield tablet right before the x1 and how much will it costs because im getting 400 dollars for my b day and i would like to buy a device with the x1

Early stages, early drivers. You have to wait. But when a demo is announced by Nvidia the target is always 60fps. Also don't forget this version has Global Illumination while the console versions where still HDR which is more than 100% perf increase
Of corse we need the x1 for mobile phones so we can play gta 4 on android ☺
Nahh
this on the M1 MacBook 16 inch
It is not dumbass
No it isn't.
I want I want on a tablet for 350 to 400 bucks
Here are my Mobile specs
8.2 inch display 1920x1200 as last year
But with .2 inches
Slightly better back camera
Thinner design like half an inch at least make it more screen
and 3gb of ram of 4gb
Same htc like sound speakers
And a slot as last time
With direct styles 3.00
And of course the bread and butter of this the tegra X1
If it meets most of these specs I will freaking get this tablet
When Project Ara is out you can do it by your self.
Make better games for shield tablet
Shield Portable FTW
I'm enjoying Trine 2, Half Life 2, Half Life 2: Episode 1, Portal and Modern Combat 5 on my Nvidia Shield Tablet.
crysis would be nice
they should port older gen 7 console games
***** Yup. That's why there isn't as many Shield-exclusive titles as there could be. In the meanwhile, you can still stream games from your GTX-powered PC :)
Maxwell got seriously crippled in double precision processing. Even their old GTX 580 is considerably faster than the new 980 for those specific computes. Probably a tactic to force the scientific gpu industry to buy their more expensive brands :P www.anandtech.com/show/8526/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-review/20
Why would you take a gaming card, to do double precision? That's just stupid.
So the switch is using 2 year old tech when it released.
There was no real competitor gpu when it was released, also it still was the newest mobile gpu on the market from nvidia in march 2017. The X1 was so powerful that it took until 2017 for other mobile GPUs to catch up.
meanwhile PS4 and Xbox One use 2012 tech..
@@codezero7981 you can’t say that. First of all it’s irrelevant to the argument since those consoles use x86 desktop hardware. They also released in 2013.
@@helmi5045 old tech is old tech, it doesnt matter if its arm or x86 or sony or Nintendo releasing it.
@@Saroku1000 never said it isn't old tech just said that you can't compare it to a nintendo switch since that uses a mobile arm SoC while those consoles use power hungry x86 desktop chips
everyone is just talking about apple shit and I'm just here waiting for AMD to show their new gpus and in hopes nvidia does a drop price on the gtx 980
Когда твой планшет мощнее твоего PC
wow
Damn
Now, give us new Shield device ;-)
Shield Console probably
Nvidia Shield Portable is the best , a screen and controller aio and has more space for more things and increase perfomance and cooling (why not active cooling)
The Jeff More space? nope, it has the same amount of space as the Shield tablet... the portable is great but some people prefer the tablet experience.
shield phone probaly
I would prefer a new portable.
comparing a mobile 6 core gpu + 3 core cpu against a 2core cpu+192 core desktop gpu is quiet unfair .
Nope... A8X have 192 cores (32 ALUs per core) just like tegra k1 (1SMX with CUDA cores).
hydzior A8X has 256 cores (yeah, it's 32 ALUs per core, but A8X has 8 of them).
A8X has a speed of 1.5ghz and 3 cores with 256 cores while the K1 has 2/4 cores clocked 2.3 ghz with 192 desktop cores .The comparison is still unfair as A8X is having a GPU designed for mobile devices while the K1 has a scaled down version of desktop class cores thus proving what i have said above
Noaman Patne It is fair just because A8X and K1 are used in tablets with mobile OS.
Run advanced warfare on it then I will be happy
B. E. A. S. T.
Shut up and take my money!
Nice jacket... lol
*on
NVIDIA please bring tegra tablets to #pakistan
nvidia dont stoping, onde day the will develop skaynet :D wow teraflops on mobile GPU
it will burst to flame if it run gta V at 60 fps LOL
I got birthday Today :) so its rl nice day for me :)
(Tegra K1 user. and gtx 970 :) Got job Nvidia for all your Work )
*Yawn* so it can run an even more dumbed down of the already dumbed down tech demo at a mediocre framerate.
Really impressive Nvidia.
