A summary I wrote of the video -
    What are Dreams?
Stories in which we anticipate the future.
Why do we like to dream?
Because our Limbic system (emotional part of the brain).
It's priorities is to feel good in the moment and avoid discomfort.
So when we dream, we get a feel good or dopamine kick.
Hence it keep chasing the feeling by dreaming more and more, as if it's a drug.
Pre-frontal Cortex (PFC) is more logical, it wants to plan the future, calculate the probability.
Problem : PFC cannot do it's job when the Limbic is on it's dreaming vacations.
Solution : Wait until the Limbic calms down, then think. We call it "Getting back to Reality".
    How do dreams come true?
Thoughts (mere electric signals in the brain) are converted into Reality, only by Physical Action(s) of some sort.
Both Limbic & PFC can take actions. But the difference in there "working styles" are -
    - Limbic actions are very short term. In fact, they are actually "Reaction" to some triggers.
    - PFC actions are more planned, sustainable in the long-term (as to make a dream come true, the actions needs to be executed sustainably with planning).
    - It could see the future beyond the present moment's feel good & bad.
So for making a dream come true, you need to give power to the PFC.
3 steps to give power of the PFC :
    1. Write describing your dreams - "More the words you use to describe an emotion, the more the PFC understands it."
    - Write about why do you want to achieve that dream, what will you feel after achieving it, what motivates you right now, etc.
    2. Convert the dream into a Goal -
Dreams are vague ideas placed somewhere in the future, whereas Goals are tangible targets which can be described clearly and also can be measured in the short term (like in weeks to months).
    3. Take each Goal & break it down into Objectives -
This is the Key for making the dreams come true.
An acronym that can help you design objectives well enough is - SMART.
    S : Specific.
Ex - How often are you going to go to the gym, when and for how long will you exercise, etc.
    M : Measurable.
    A : Achievable.
Compare the objective's achievability with your previous patterns.
    R : Relevant.
Are the objectives in alignment with the bigger picture (i.e. your dream) ?
    T : Time Bound.
Note : Learn to keep setting the difficulty level of your objectives.
Keep the track of your objective's success and failure ratio. Then keep increasing or decreasing the difficulty level accordingly.
(25% Failure rate is healthy for sustaining motivation)
Main challenge due to which many people fail to achieve their dreams -
Dreams come from Limbic system, which wants to feel good all the time.
As if it has achieved something really great, validated, etc. even if it's just an imagination.
Actions that we need to take do not generally give us that much feel good in the short term.
Hence, we must learn to reward ourselves to prevent the Limbic from losing it's patience and over-ruling the PFC and making it forget about this dream and instead dream about something else (because that'll be new, exciting & the reward via dreaming will be immediate).
Final Advice : Do not tell much people about your dreams. This is one of the tricks that limbic system pulls to get some feel good (quick & cheap validation)
You may share it after completing a few objectives so that sharing about it doesn't become counter-productive anymore.

OMG this is soooo awesome. You really answered my struggle. 2 weeks ago I picked up reading as a serious hobby and 1 phase of my mind decided to make an excel sheet create smart goal on how to achieve this goal of being a serious reader..... And I realised I was overwhelmed by tht activity tht I gave up on reading next book.... I was blaming my prefrontal cortex but thanks to you now I know the trick.

Take a dream (that made me happy even when I'm thinking about it (limbic system)
Write it down - goal - (prefrontal cortex)
Don't tell many people about your dreams or goals (the limbic system takes cheap dopamine and thinks ab toh jarurat hi nahi h)
Celebrate small wins along the way
(PFC will take a lot of time to achieve the dream so the limbic system will get frustrated and start to dream about something else- BE AWARE)
(when we celebrate small wins it's like making the limbic system feel that yes I'm enjoying it- so it will wait till the final goal will be achieved by me)
And limbic and PFC will be synced and that's FLOW STATE
SMART -specific , measurable, achievable, relevant , time bound

    Why do we seek?
Is there any reason to seek a better future
if we're fully comfortable and content
with the way our body feels now?
    When thoughts slow down,
you may notice that there is discomfort in the body,
which may show up in a myriad of ways:
pain, anxiety, anger, or any other sensation or emotion.
This is part of the reason that we get addicted to thought-
because it’s an immediately available way to avoid or try to fix the way our bodies feel.
We won't be able to rest in presence for very long
if we keep ignoring or avoiding discomfort.
Rather, we'll continue to follow thoughts about past and future.
    We'll keep trying to escape.
So, how do we bring direct attention to the energies of our body?
The first step is to acknowledge that you are feeling something.
We tend to acknowledge emotions and sensations first through the mind...
We might think, "I’m angry," or "I’m afraid,"
or we may simply notice that something is bothering us...
But we can't feel emotions or sensations through thinking.
These thoughts are narratives are labels for how we feel.
They are not the actual energies themselves.
For example, if you have the thought "I have a stomachache,"
that thought is a label for something that is actually happening in your body...
In order to actually feel or experience the stomachache directly,
you would have to bring attention down into the stomach area
and feel it (without thoughts on it).
The same is true for all emotions and sensations.
Once you acknowledge that you feel something
or have been triggered by someone or some event,
bring attention very gently to the body
where you feel the actual emotion or sensation.
With your attention there, feel into the sensation or emotion,
and see if you can notice the peripheral space around it at the same time.
Let the emotion or sensation just hang there in that open space,
without trying to change, neutralize, or get rid of it.
It is common to want to change, neutralize, or get rid of bodily energies.
Just notice any tendency to want to do these things.
    This is resistance at work,
and trying to stop that resistance from happening
    is simply adding more resistance.
Bear in mind that we give power to words, pictures, and bodily energies
by turning awareness away from them...
And we diminish their power by turning toward them
    and remaining aware of them
    until they fade naturally.
    That one simple understanding,
if turned into a daily practice,
    is highly transformative.

I can relate so much to this, my dream of learning to swim happened when I shifted the gear to pfc and started acting instead of sitting in limbic with fear of water and going out of breathe..so many times I wanted to give up as I couldn’t deal with the fear but finally I overcame it with constant efforts and action. Your videos make so much sense. I love ur content. Thank you and please keep up the good work.

Namastey sir. The way how you explain is so easy to understand. Every tradition that we have got from forefathers has a reason. This is what i believe though we know the reason or not, but if we know the reason we can easily follow without leaving knowing the science in that. I heard your explanation of om and about meditation in podcast with Dr Pal. If its possible could you pls explain the importance of Sivaratri. Its kind of a tradition we dont eat or sleep for one day. People say like for one life atleast one sivaratri has to be followed. Is their anything thats relates to brain in this tradition. Pls explain.
