I think a lot of the Gatwick scenes were actually shot at Northolt (also used for Goldfinger). The clips above include a shot of a BOAC VC-10. These flew from Heathrow . I don' t think BOAC VC-10s ever operated from Gatwick.
Hmm maybe! Official reports say it was filmed at Gatwick, maybe the shots of the planes are stock footage added from elsewhere! Would explain everything! 😄 I think if it was filmed in Gatwick it more likely would have been in a staff area of the runway as I can’t see them shutting down a major london airport for a dr who episode in 1967 lol
@@Doctorwholocationsguide BOAC VC-10s only operated from Heathrow as that is where BOAC had their UK base. At that time Gatwick was associated with British United Airways and later on British Caledonian. Their favoured plane at that time was the BAC-111 with two engines at the tail.
@@Doctorwholocationsguide I did check a book I have about Doctor Who locations and it only mentions Gatwick not Northolt. Howeve,r the CMS Fact Files states that originally the serial was to be shot at 'London Airport' (i.e. Heathrow) so that would explain the inclusion of the VC-10 in the storyline.
I’m convinced the filmed sections are Gatwick (probably private areas) and the plane shots are stock footage from Heathrow possibly? All very interesting to know though! Now every time I watch the episodes, it’ll bug me the planes aren’t accurate!! 🤣🤣
