Look at the printing on the instruction sheet and it'll give you the printing date.
Secondly you're comparing it to today's standards on model kits this model was produced back in the 1960s and early 70s.... Lindbergh was not known for building highly detailed or accurate kits it was a small company that produced model kits many of which were battery-operated to be ran on swimming pools. But also to be affordable for kids to buy with their allowances and build a model kit.... Saying that I have built many Lindbergh kits and I've gone in and taken the time to scratch build parts that were missing or two accurize them into looking more like what they were supposed to be but again these models were meant as quick builds and many of them as toys to be played this kid was released shortly after Revell released its kit of the same name.....
As for painting, the Olympia is a museum ship and is still painted in the colors that it was in which you can Google and see on the internet to give you the proper painting colors on the ship.
Main point being you're trying to compare a model that was made in the 1960s and the 1970s, and compare its detailing from that time, to today's model standards.....

All very true. And I agree, it was a cheap kit. I've built other kits of similar vintage and it varies drastically, you still buy kits that use decades old tooling, Airfix Mauretania or example, the tooling is from 1963 and is still moulded in. Overall, I did enjoy building it. I did research it and still it looked plain, so I went with the rusted hulk look and had some fun with it, exactly what its for.

Lindbergh made crappy kits back then and even the modern kits are crap and definitely not worth paying for.

I agree that the model is crap and Lindbergh still makes crappy model kits. I bought the same type of kit back in the early 90s and there was little to no detail and the masts bended down looking like it got too close to a heat source. I would rather have a vintage Revell model of the Olympia as it’s a far better kit than Lindbergh any day

This was my first ship kit as a kid back in the early 70s. Used it for my aquarium which killed my gold fish!! My 2nd was the old revell Arizona.

Mine was the USS Enterprise, as in James T Kirks Enterprise. That was 30 years ago and still sits on a shelf in all its badly painted glue stained glory.
