Oh my gosh I moved to Nova Scotia Canada 3 years ago and instantly felt what you described when you spoke of the early settlers. I have never been able to explain it, but you nailed it. Thank you
I've never said this out loud in this type of space. But this deck was very triggering for me being an African american woman here in the South of the US. I gave it a fair shot, but it was a no.
I get you with this (Black & from Florida in my case). I'm ngl, I think knowing the context of the decks creation and having the illustrated version is why my mind doesn't go to directly to seeing them as the KKK but more like...human shaped versions of what the colors their wearing represent in color symbolism. Depending on the card, my brain sees them more as an element in itself (like red = fire, blue = water kinda thing). But I def get why you just couldn't vibe with it! There's another deck called the Hayworth Tarot that's similar to the Somnia, but I just can't work with it myself. I kinda wonder if you may have more luck with it, even though it definitely leans more into the creepy because it's a Welcome To Night Vale inspired deck.
I've gone in circles around the Somnia house for quite a while. Vibing hard to its aesthetic, yet unable to find a way in, giving up eventually. And now, it feels like you handed me the key to the front door! At a fitting time as well, as indeed I feel like I am standing at the threshold of the second half of my life, feeling stuck and unsure. The early settlers/old life in a new (yet old) land aesthetic feels kinda right for that, too. Hope the folk horror won't ;) This was just excellent. Thank you so much!
It's interesting that you mention the reversed Hanged Man energy, because during one interview, Nicolas Bruno talked about a similar experience. While he was hanging from the pole to shoot the Hanged Man card, he mentioned how personal and familiar that experience felt to him. I'm pretty sure that he also shared that this is his favorite card in the deck, because he felt it felt so familiar.
I don't have this deck but now thar you describe the purpose, it seems more appealing. Love hearing about the personalities of decks & had to laugh about the professor analogy! I'd be interested in more videos about how you combine different decks together & how you decide which decks pair well. Cool antique-ish look today!
I've had this deck for a while. I have not really used it much yet, but I have this feeling that I will want/use it at some point, so it sticks around. (Also, your outfit is so pretty!)
I was called to the illustrated Somnia… I feel like it gives a different vibe and speaks from a slightly different space. However, it’s not easy to get in the UK so I’m waiting on it x
Oh and they have a little card that they put stamps on for future purchases. Not sure if they send them out if you purchase online, but the Somnia will fill up most of the card (it is pricey) so worth finding out!
Same here, weirdly enough! I feel like the Illustrated Somnia is basically what the photographed Somnia would've been if the photographer had more resources at the time. It's the same concept but with more imagery, color, and concepts to work with vs the way the photographed Somnia is not really going to hold your hand to reach the same message in a way.
Thank you for the review!! 🥰 At some point, I would like to hear your review on The Oracle of the Hekatean Path. I am thinking about using it with the Sacred Keys 🔑 Workshop … Sending you love and good health! 💗
I bought this deck last week as it’s been calling to me for a loooong time. And yes, to use for exactly the reasons you mention. I also purchased the Death Doula last week with the idea of using them together! 😅 Clearly great minds think alike! 😉 Many blessings and looking forward to your reviews 🖤
Thank you for doing this video! I actually got the same vibe as you did when first seeing this deck. Lije, " eh, i dont know." Also, tha dry feeling about it location wise. Crazy, my thoughts were in exact alignment with yours! Ive look this deck up on other youtube videoes, and now yours and i am.thinking of purchasing it. I like the colors and plainess about the deck. YAY!! Soul mirror oracle. That is one i do really want to purchase, for sure. Cant wait to see your take on that deck! Another Thank You!. One more request..could you possibly do a full review on Poe tarot? I have it and love it! To me, its a sweet and comforting deck, very honest too! All the best Raecine! Waiting for upcoming videos from you! .
I agree with your feelings of this deck, (very puritanical to me) funny I brought it out this past week too! Crazy I was on the same wavelength. It could resonate with people dealing with the shadow, guilt and feelings of a religious upbringing. The thing that bugs me the most is the sheets over the faces and horses…but I did get some deep readings with it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts❤
When will you be home? One thing I love about your videos is looking at all the beautiful pictures hanging on your walls I absolutely love your taste in art.❤❤
I have it but rarely use it, however i am going through some stuff with someone i need to move away from.i liked all the water in it. Im scorpio and then seems to work. Moody and dark
This deck is a hard no for me. It just creeps me out too much, like a silent violence. That's just me. I do have decks that have been for me, like this deck did for you. There are some decks that I absolutely know will NOT work for/with me. Other's I'm not so sure, so I will keep them and revisit maybe a year later to see if it's time to have a relationship. Then there are decks that were my go-to's, that suddenly go silent. Those I keep, too, because even if I don't see someone for a long time in my family, it doesn't mean they're not family anymore. 😊 Thank you for this thoughtful review. It does take time to really know a deck enough to give a good review. ✌️❤️🃏
Tbh I have the illustrated version of the Somnia Tarot and it's somehow very different because it doesn't have the exact same limitations of the original photography in the Somnia Tarot in terms of color and imagery. I'm not sure if context will really like...help the deck connect with others, but I do think it helps to know how the photography was done during 2020 under an extreme amount of limitation in terms of props, locations, models, and ability to represent the imagery of the cards. I think it also is rooted in the sense of isolation, resourcefulness, self reflection, and maybe even forced revolution of self because of its starkness and specific time of creation. I actually wonder if more may connect with the illustrated version better because the photographed version is far more stark because of the context of it's creation vs the illustrated version providing more complexity and imagery to work with/understand. Also, I actually really enjoy the ways human faces/bodies are as concealed as possible because it allows a person to focus more on the energy or concept of what's being represented, so it's more universal. Regardless, the illustrated Somnia Tarot is a deck I REALLY love and what I reach for, oddly enough, for similar reasons you spoke on: it's just deeply honest for me and helps me when I'm struggling to face something for whatever reason. It's not harsh, just bluntly honest with a lot to give. But maybe I'd feel differently if I had the photographed version 😅
I felt like the illustrated I could maybe use, but this one is chilling to me. Thank you for your thoughts on it, it helps me understand this deck a bit better now. ❤
I feel like i am suffocating when i look at those images. I think if i had it i might feel differently about it but i had a very deep aversion to it from the first time i saw it. I appreciate yor review though. Sometimes i think i will not like something then change my mind. By the way, i think you look Lovely ❤❤
Thanks for reminding us to be patient with our new decks. If the experience isn’t fluid and you don’t make “best friends” on the first reading, it could be later that the relationship unfolds.
I was so excited about this deck, but I’ve tried so many times with it and it just falls super flat for me. I bought the book thinking it would help but no. Im going to keep it because it IS beautiful. The same reason I keep the Dreams of Gaia. They are just beautiful objects but as far as divination they just don’t talk to me. In fact both of those are actually similar in feel to me because they feel so guarded. Like, there’s depth there but they won’t open up to me.
The deck is vile, I have no other words to describe it. I have the illustrated version with whom i tried to bond so many times and it gives me abuse and " attitude" every time i ask them the questions and trying to know them and understand them. Its neither arts or crafts. Its trying too hard ,like an art college graduate creating their final project that needs to be different. That's the sole purpose - to be different. The card stock is good , the colour pallette is well thought off etc . I had more hopes for it and the postage to the UK was £50!
I use this deck along with the Witches Tarot deck (Burning Paper Hearts). It feels like it comes alive with that deck and I haven't quite figured out why yet.
I appreciate you really getting to know a deck before doing full reviews. Thank you for this one!

It's my soul deck that got me interested in tarot in the first place. So cozy. I was a bit nervous to watch your review haha
you always give such amazing reviews!!Oh my Gaia you could not look more stunning in that lace top with the black accent! 🖤🖤🖤🖤

Watkins Books in London has a copy or two if you are interested 😊
I never knew about them! Thanks for the tip! Xxx
@@littlerituals_uk They are a great little store - lots of decks and books, I could spend hours there 😊. I hope your Somnia finds you soon!

I get Handmaid's Tale vibes from the deck. I think the deck will be useful for feminine power readings and taking my power back

The illustrated version hits on a different level, been using it to read the “darker” aspect of my readings🖤

How is the LWB included with this deck? Would it be necessary to purchase the guide book to work with it? Thanks.
