I highly respect Joshua and he deserved the win against Klitschko but I think saying it was about character is a bit misleading. Klitschko proved time and time again that he has the will and character to win. Imo physical condition and stamina were the deciding factors. Klitschko is 14 years older, that makes a gigantic difference.
klitschko dominated 3/4 of the fight, but you could see that in the last kwarter he just got exhausted and tired and this is when joshua's young age gave him an advantage wich got him his victory. (assuming that both are in top physical shape)
Spencer Steele Wlad was winning on points before the downfall lol also had better stamina but Joshua power and youth paid off eventually... If it went 12 rounds Wlad probably would've won. Pretty good fight :)
That he was the greatest when in reality we know that title belongs to the true greatest and i don't just mean in boxing, so i think actually he was only thinking about the money.
George Foreman was 5 days away from being 46 when he beat a 27 year old Michael Moorer to win the title. Lennox Lewis was over a year OLDER than a "past his prime" Mike Tyson when he utterly destroyed the former 'baddest man on the planet'..your point is invalid.
I would have respected him a lot more if he had just admitted that the age played a huge part in the outcome. Joshua is in his prime now, Klitschko is ten years past his, major difference
The prime of Klitschko was his mid-last 30"s... It hasn't passed that much of time. When he was 36 he beat Haye when he was 38 he beat Povetkin and Pulev.... His best performances were the ones of his late 30's... So 3 years after that everybody saying that his prime was way past? LOL I guess you didnt notice in the fight his physical condition and shape did you ?
In the 11th round he was as fit as Joshua was. He got knocked out 2 times in that round and he was still coming up.... And basically overall he showed better physical condition and stamina than Joshua throughout the entire fight. Remember that AJ got tired the 5th round and he tried to regain stamina after his KO. Klitschko was on his toes the ENTIRE fight...!!! Thats FACTS. . It was the uppercut in the 11th that determined things. Not WK"s stamina... I mean watch the fight ffs.
I watched him at the Olympics I'm a massive fan. I think he's great he has an air about him he's probably the toughest man on the planet but he's a gentleman and he's articulate he's got the Makings of a worldwide Superstar.
@Mystery Man He said a punch from the gods doesnt mean luck. He said it means it is the best punch you could ask for in that situation. He said his own punch that knocked down Ruiz was also a punch from the gods
I was kind of sad when Klitschko lost...but this guy is so respectful and humble and really nice. So after seeing that I was like ok the right guy won at the end.
How can he dare to say Klitschko has not the character. The deciding factors were obviously the age difference and the missing stamina and physical condition coming with the advanced age of Wladimir. Joshua is a brilliant fighter and he was at his very best in that fight (otherwise he couldnt have beaten him) and he deserved to win the fight, but to say he has not the character and the heart of a true fighter and a true champion is the last thing you can say about Wladmir Klitschko! Enjoy your retirement Wlad, you are a true inspiration and one of the greatest sportsman of all time!
he didn't say Klitschko doesn't have character. You are just interpreting it that way. He was answering the question about what it took HIM to get to that point to gut it out after the knockdown. When asked about Klitschko he discounted age being the deciding factor by pointing out the exceptional shape he was in and his tremendous experience.
Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder are just a common boxer in the Era of 90’s We have Iron Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Evander The Real Deal Hoylfield and the list goes on!
In 1994 Foreman beat the Heavyweight Champion Moorer who was 19 years his junior and had beaten Holyfield to gain the title. Foreman was 45 years of age and most definitely not in his best shape.
watching it in Nov 2019 when AJ has already lost his title to Andy. AJ knocked him down, but Andy got up, given what AJ just told Andy has got a better character than his.
Joshua and Fury deserve respect for beating Klitschko but I wish they’d both acknowledge that age played a major factor. There’s nothing wrong with that, its always happened in the heavyweight division (the new generation beating the old) yet for some reason neither of them seem to be able to admit it?
I am keen to know why WK stopped punching J in the few rounds after J's knockdown even though J was obviously hurt. This raises the suspicion of a fixed fight.
kali basher not really mate experience should have told him jump on aj when he had him hurt but he didn't 41 yr old men aren't as fit as 35 year old men
Its boxing tradition to have the old champion fight the new guy to beat the champion, And then the cycle repeats. Of the new guy champion become the old guy and then he loses to the new guy to beat the champion
AJ: I slipped Fury: yeh, I got up To be fair, AJ is making good money being the face of boxing so when Ruiz took him out in 3 rounds, u gotta protect the money maker
I honestly think, even at Wladimir's age, Vitali Klitschko would have taken Joshua to school, out-hustled him, and KO's him by the 10th round. Vitali was the pit bull out of the two brothers. A younger Wladimir Klitschko, anywhere between 28 and 36, would've KO'd Joshua as well. But if's are pointless, Joshua is a damn good fighter and is on track to becoming a great Champion.
Listening to Anthony Joshua talk about finding one's character and digging deep made me well up a little, and I could feel his pride enough to not worry about the little tear tracking down my face...1:20 Greg Davies felt the same fam. Ya get meh.
He was just scratching his his eyes. Nothing about that 'character' talk is remotely moving or even substantial. All of that ' you got to ...' talk is 101 basics that you can;t even get into the ring without knowing. Oh, well.
Great fighter but he needs to fight in states to get his name out. I can't wait until he fight Wilder to see a good heavyweight fight between to young lions
Nate AJ is a world class fighter, conor is an amateur who stages photos in his posts, floyd is the greatest defensive fighter of all time with one of the best ring iqs we've ever seen
A lot of people here saying that it should be the age difference that played the huge part. What about manny and broner? Manny is already 40 years old and would've knocked out broner if he wasn't running the whole fight. Age difference is just an excuse people.
Back in the day, your gym routines would not have helped, this man (Vlad) was knocked down by lightning(Corey Sanders) and got back up....age plays a big part, your London gym would not have saved you back then.
I don't think he was referring to the fight but rather just that one situation.
klitschko dominated 3/4 of the fight, but you could see that in the last kwarter he just got exhausted and tired and this is when joshua's young age gave him an advantage wich got him his victory. (assuming that both are in top physical shape)
+3NGIN33R I do think he was, Graham´s question was refering to the fight as a whole and what made the difference in the end.
He said he fell down and whether to get up or stay down, fight or flight is a question of character. Makes the most sense to me.
Well it was Joshua's biggest challenge in his career so far and winning was far from a foregone conclusion.
Wladimir Klitschko did well considering he is 14 years older
In the Hood He is so old to BE aj father

Agree
Anthony Joshua's handsome face seems to have been unaffected by boxing. Sign of a good fighter, clearly. :-)
TheMovieMyLife He is 27 ofcourse he looks good ffs
Actually it's not a sign of anything... it just means he doesn't bruise easily, that's about it
what about broken nose, teeth lose bruises and scars ....
Sign of a fighter who has only been fighting in a short period of time which he has.
TheMovieMyLife hi there.
Such a genuine guy!
he is seriously gorgeous!
Who else is stuck in the never ending loop of The Graham Norton show 👀 - 2022
I must admit i love this man Joshua.
I thought he was going to say Vladimir Putin that would be... interesting to say the least.
I don't think anyone could beat Putin in a fistfight. Russian steel or something like that idk
Putin is alot smaller than most heavyweight boxers

Why is aj always on Graham Norton with Greg Davies?
that was so inspiring what he said about the character. amazing!
1:37 not hating or anything but let's be honest, AJ's answer should be yes there.
Absolutly true.
Characteristics are uncanny. Beast mode in the ring.
Poor man slipped 4 times at the weekend
He had past his prime - Well done for not admitting it.
Great fight and it does take character to get back up

If he fought Klitschko 7, 8 maybe 9 years ago Joshua wouldn't have stood a chance and there's no way he would of beat Vitali, no chance!
Well where's your proof
obsidio osprey Age difference buddy. age difference.
obsidio osprey
Vitali's a machine, have you seen his fight with Lennox
Paul Bertie probably true given that Joshua would’ve been about 20 to be fair.
Vitali would've beaten him for sure, but Wladimir was always overrated and got exposed against tall skilled fighters.
It seems Greg Davies is on every episode
Vladimir would've won if he was much younger like 30 to 20 years old joshua would've been dead meat
lowkey plays nah
He has probably got stronger hes not a old man wtf
“Would’ve,could’ve,should’ve“ stfu he didn’t
so what? your point make 0 sense whatsoever cause following that logic Ali would won all his fights ..
35 year old Wladimir with Steward would DESTROY Joshua

what was the big deal about him slipping in the fight? That happens regularly in fights, it's not counted as a knock down so what's the problem?

What a bump. Taking so much credit for beating an old man. You couldn't even tko Joseph Parker who is younger than you.
