  • Luciano, Lansky, Siegel, Genovese, Costello-the infamous names conjure up an era when bootlegging, racketeering and violence ruled New York City.
    But how did these men rise from poor childhoods to crime empires? “The Making of the Mob: New York,” AMC’s first-ever docudrama, answers that question in eight gripping episodes featuring notable interviews, historical footage and dramatic reenactments. Join executive producer Stephen David; Meyer Lansky II, grandson of the notorious boss; mob historian Selwyn Raab; and Bronx-born Oscar® nominee Chazz Palminteri for a journey to the underworld origins of the American Mafia and a first look at “The Making of the Mob: New York.”

    Chazz Palminteri said he would love to play a 3 dimensional character. I think he'd be perfect as Vincent "Chin" Gigante. Chin was an interesting character. Pretending to be mentally ill to trick the Feds. Also, in my opinion, I think Palminteri resembles Chin a little bit.

      Chin was more respected and smarter than Gotti!
      Google Willie king mugger.
      This moron robbed the chins mom in the village..when the cops told Willie whose mom that was...HE SHITTED HIS PANTS!
      The reporters called him "The dumbest mugger" on the papers.
      You can't make this up. Absolute moron this guy.
      As a young kid Gotti was cool
      But now as an adult
      the chin was the man in my pov.

    When Raab says that Meyer Lansky was a mere vassal....that is so historically wrong and laughable. Meyer was widely regarded as the brains behind the structuring of the US Mafia and one of the primary architects of modern organized crime who was there at the beginning. He also showed the mob how to launder their money. Him and Luciano were as close as brothers. Notice how no Italians dared attack or mess with Lansky when they killed their own for years. They worked hand in hand and they all learned from Arnold Rothstein. Raab is a good writer but he is plain wrong on this.

    • @DarlingNikki2
      @DarlingNikki2 5 років тому +2

      That is a weirdly dismissive viewpoint considering how powerful and influential Lansky and his Jewish cohorts were in the Italian Mafia and on their own.

    • @TomOostenrijk
      @TomOostenrijk 4 роки тому +1

      He was a vasal. An important, influential one, But he was still a Vassal. He was not Cosa Nostra. He was a Jewish underling. With Bugsy Siegel, Buchalter, probably the last ones of that demographic to have any real power in organized crime in the US, until the decline of CN. You think he ever stepped foot into a commission meet? Had any kind of say in policy?

    • @theportugueselegend
      @theportugueselegend 4 роки тому +1

      Dont forget Raab is jewish too, he probably is an expert on the jewosh mob too. With all due respect, I think he referred to Lansky as a "vassal" in the means that he wans't italian, a made man and a definite member of a family or clan. That said, Meyer was definitly means to an end.

    Luciano had power in America in part because of his connections to the power overseas.
    Lansky was almost an equal in his own right as his connections also spanned the world. Luciano and Lansky were also lifelong friends.
    Selwyn Rabb, does not have a full comprehension of the subject matter. It was formed by street criminals who had core values and ideals, due to indoctrination in a sub-culture, with ethnic roots and a long standing history that can only be understood with a comprehensive genealogy study, marriage and birth records, passenger manifests, immigration records, old letters of the pertinent parties, and all other records with a thorough and intensive decades long study. Only other way is to have a friend or relative who actually was there pre-appalachin, at Appalachian and after.

    The mob and how they had a hand in everything American.
    Business. Trade. Entertainment. Food. Clothing and most of all influenced politics.
    It is for sure in the history of our young country that is fascinating and enviable. Mine are German and we have been here a long time. Mobbing up has not been one of them. Excluding when they went Viking.

    • @blueskinblake9935

      WT Hendrix or mobs of brownshirts harrasing innocent people and destroying storefronts on Kristallnacht? That mob didn't commit any more crimes after that, did they?
      And if by mob you mean organized crime simply for material gain with zero regard for anybody they might victimize, organized crime is throughout the world, Germany included (where all the Italian syndicates have operated for years- with plenty of colusion from German citizens).
      You probably didn't even mean much by it but it just looks so predjudicial and ignorant in print.
      Crime and crooks can be found hiding under rocks all around the globe

    • @blueskinblake9935
      @blueskinblake9935 7 років тому

      WT Hendrix And put some subjects in those clauses and I think you should be on your way to complete sentences and having your ideas fully expressed to others. We are not mind readers and your poor construction creates a little vagueness as to what exactly you are trying to say.

    These interviewers are horrible, every documentary they interrupt just as the person is starting to tell a story!!! So they focus on the same thing we hear in every interview, let the interviewees speak and finish their thought! It seems to be the majority of interviewers are like this from an unknown to oprah shut up and listen to your guest! So many tangents they go off on which would be an excellent story we haven't heard, and this idiot interviewer interrupts, so rude, and his wobbling around he looks like a hung over bum. So many good shows w guests but hosts are horrible and rude! I don't agree w Raab at all, Lansky helped Luciano set up his boss and take him out, he was partners to Luciano. Raab was wrong and rude for that.
